n The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and its partner organizations are sponsoring the Money Smart Kid Essay Contest in support of Money Smart Week Indiana April 18 -25, 2015. n Students in grades 6 through 8 are encouraged to answer this year’s Money Smart essay question (see below) with a typed essay of 500 words or less. n Three finalists, along with their families and teachers or adult sponsors, will be selected to attend the Money Smart Week Indiana Kickoff Luncheon in Indianapolis on Friday, April 17, 2015. n The winners will receive a CollegeChoice 529 Savings Account through the generous sponsorship of CollegeChoice 529, ISM College Planning, Indiana Council for Economic Education, the John H. Boner Community Center, Fifth Third Bank and PNC Bank. The winner will receive $1000 and the runners up will each receive $750. Guidelines Candidates Must: n Be a student in grades 6 – 8 and live in Indiana. n Have age and grade level appropriate financial knowledge and money management skills. n Be articulate and able to respond well to questions from business leaders and the media. n Be recommended by a teacher or other adult leader using this form – maximum of 5 recommendations per teacher/adult leader. n Have parent or guardian permission to apply and participate. n Write an essay of 500 words or less on the 2015 question. n Essays should be typed, double spaced and should not include the student’s name, school or town. (The information to be excluded from the essay is on the application.) The essay and the application signed by the student, the teacher or adult leader and a parent or guardian should be submitted electronically to [email protected] no later than Tuesday, February 17, 2015. n Essays will be reviewed by the committee by Tuesday, March 3, 2015, finalists will be contacted by Monday, March 9, 2015, and will be scheduled for a phone interview with the committee on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. n Winners will be notified by Monday, March 23, 2015. n Students may only win twice.
