The Parish Budget for Fiscal Year 2014 (7/1/13 - 6/30/14) is based on the giving of our faith family for Fiscal Year 2013. The portion of our budget contributed in envelopes, checks and loose cash is $1,727.640.00 or $32,597.00 per week. Thank you for your continuing generosity. Contributions for the 10th weekend of the fiscal year were $37,324.00. In the 10th week of our fiscal year, our budgeted goal for ministry programs and ordinary operating expense is $325,969.00 and our collections are $330,269.00. Collections for the Archdiocesan Seminarian Support were $11,385.00. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider using the Capital Improvement Envelope in your packet to help recover the renovation of St. Bakhita Hall.
May God bless you in your sacrificial giving. Lord, help me move from comfort to sacrifice.
How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me? (Psalm 116:12)

Reflection: “Once we discover the full light of Christ’s love, we realize that each of the love in our own
lives had always contained a ray of that light, and we understand its ultimate destination. The fact that
our human loves contain that ray of light also helps us to see how all love is meant to share in the com-
plete self-gift of the Son of God for our sake. In this circular movement, the light of faith illumines all our
human relationships, which can then be lived in union with the gentle love of Christ.”-Pope Francis in his
Encyclical Letter “Lumen Fidei” THIS WEEK’S MEETINGS/ACTIVITIES
► Senior Ministry-GEMS-Activities The 2013-2014 calendar of activities is available in the church reading
rack in the vestibule and in Sr. Cristina’s office. The first activity this pastoral year is a
movie on the life of St. Rita of Cascia. It will be this Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 12:30-2:30 PM in
St. Francis Hall. Please bring a snack to share. Thank you.
► 40 Days for Life sign-up is this weekend, after all the Masses. “Annunciation for Life” t-shirts
will be for sale. Pro-life rosaries, prayer cards and other things will also be available for a
small donation. Our parish is assigned for the prayer vigil next Wednesday, Sept. 25, at
7:00AM-7:00PM, in front of Planned Parenthood on San Mateo Blvd.
► Lean on Me: A Spiritual Look at the Daring Promise of Marriage an evening retreat for married cou-
ples will be held at the Canossian Spirituality Center on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at 6:00
-9:00PM beginning with dinner. It will be facilitated by Kyle and Kristin Turner. Kyle is
the Director of Faith Formation at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in downtown Den-
ver, CO and Founding Director of Spiritus et Spes (spiritandhope.com). Kristin is a Hu-
man Resources Manager with SM Energy, headquartered in Denver. They are blessed with one inspir-
ing 2 year old daughter, Abigail Hope, and their friendly Shih-Tzu companion, Lincoln. Please call 452-
9402 to register. Offering is $60.00 per couple.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Renee Pagan – Coordinator
We are still accepting registrations for 2013-2014 for this program in our parish. Sessions are held every
Tuesday, at 7:00-9:00PM in St. Bakhita Hall. Please call Sr. Cristina’s office for more information. The RCIA, while
new in a sense, was not really new. It was an effort to restore the spirit of early Christianity by emphasizing conver-
sion as a participation in the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ, as well as the role of the entire praying, wit-
nessing, and teaching Church in giving support and shape to that journey.

POPE FRANCIS AND PEACE
Here are some moving quotes from Pope Francis’ Homily at the Peace Vigil for Syria:
“When man thinks only of himself, of his own interests and places himself in the center,
when he permits himself to be captivated by the idols of dominion and power, when he
puts himself in God’s place, then all relationships are broken and everything is ruined; then
the door opens to violence, indifference and conflict.”
“Am I really my brother’s keeper? Yes, you are your brother’s keeper! To be human
means to care for one another! But when harmony is broken, a metamorphosis occurs: the brother who is to be cared for
and loved becomes an adversary to fight, to kill. What violence occurs at that moment, how many conflicts, how many
wars have marked our history! We need only look at the suffering of so many brothers and sisters. This is not a ques-
tion of coincidence, but the truth: we bring about the rebirth of Cain in every act of violence and in every war....even
today...We have perfected our weapons, our conscience has fallen asleep, and we have sharpened our ideas to justify our-
selves. As if it were normal, we continue to sow destruction, pain, death! Violence and war lead only to
death....Violence and war are the language of death!”
“Is it possible to change direction? Can we get out of this spiral of sorrow and death? Can we learn once again to walk
and live in the ways of peace? Invoking the help of God, under the maternal gaze of the Salus Populi Romani, Queen of
Peace, I say: Yes, it is possible for everyone! Or even better, I would like for each one of us, from the least to the great-
est, including those called to govern nations, to respond: Yes, we want it!...Let everyone be moved to look into the
depths of his or her conscience and listen to that word which says: Leave behind the self-interest that hardens your heart,
overcome the indifference that makes your heart insensitive toward others, conquer your deadly reasoning, and open
yourself to dialogue and reconciliation.”
OUR LADY OF SORROWS
Today, Sept. 15th, the Canossian Sisters celebrate their patronal feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows. You
will often see an image of Our Lady under this title with seven swords piercing her heart representing her
seven sorrows: 1-the prophecy of Simeon, 2-the flight into Egypt, 3-losing Jesus in the temple, 4-meeting
Jesus on the Way of the Cross, 5-the Crucifixion and 6-the deposition of Jesus’ body from the Cross and
7-the burial of Jesus. As you meditate upon these mysteries, console Our Lady with your compassion
toward all those enduring suffering today and encourage a Canossian with your love. God bless all of our
Canossians and happy feast day!
CATECHETICAL SUNDAY
This weekend we celebrate the opening of our catechetical year with the theme “Open the Door of
Faith”. This is based on Acts 14:27: “When they arrived, they gathered the church together and
declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.”
Yes, God has indeed opened the door of faith to all those of good will who desire to enter into the
Church. It is important that we remember the commission of Jesus not only to baptize all nations,
but to make disciples of them by teaching them to observe all that Jesus commanded (cf. MT
28:19-20). Our mission this Year of Faith is to do the same! Thank you to our new Religious Education Director, Leslie
Monette, and to all of our catechists, mentors and volunteers who assist in this vital mission of the Church. We must
pass on the treasures of our faith in order to keep the promise of salvation alive. Please do everything you can at
home to support this work by reviewing lessons with your children and by practicing their prayers. Pray as a family and
see how the Lord blesses you with a Year of Faith!

theology of the body for adults
What is the answer to the moral degradation we see in society today? Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the
Body provides an answer to this question through a series of short Biblical reflections on the meaning of hu-
man love, especially how love is meant to reveal God’s redemptive plan for the world. This series is for any
adult, married or single, wanting to understand this very powerful teaching. Course begins next Sunday,
September 29th, 4:00—5:30PM in Saint Bakhita Hall. For more information, contact the Y&YA Ministry Office!
