An adverb describes a verb, adjective or adverb. It tells the reader how, when, how much

and how often.

Activity 1 Fill in the missing adverbs

All the family will be going on a long holiday __________________________________ so we

are very excited. (back at the house/ painfully/ in the morning)

The ice cream van arrived ________________________________, so we could get an icy

snack and cool down in the afternoon. (every second/ at 3pm/ under the bed)

Reading – Activity 1

For your reading lesson today, you need to think about

the story book you are currently reading.

Your activity today is to write a character profile about

the main character. Fill in the outline below. Outside the

outline, on the blank part of the paper, write down things

the character says and does. On the inside, write down

their characteristics and feelings.

E.g. For Alva, from Riddle of

the Runes:

Reading – Activity 1 Read some of your current reading book.

Looking at the pages you have just read, find 5 pieces of interesting vocabulary.

1. Write the word down,

2. Find out its meaning (you could ask an adult or check online or in a dictionary)

3. Write a new sentence with that word in it.

4. Repeat for all 5 words

For Example

Supreme

Supreme means the greatest or the highest rank.

Holly was supreme at gymnastics.

Challenge We read Beowulf in the Autumn term. King Hrothgar asked Beowulf to

help his town after they are attacked repeatedly by a monster called

Grendel. Beowulf is a strong hero who kills Grendel and saves the day.

Draw a picture of Beowulf.

Writing – Setting Description Today, we are going to practice writing a setting description. You’ll need to pause the video

lots of times to write different types of sentences about the pictures. Go through the lesson

Write lots of different sentences

using the ideas given in the video.

Such as, what you can see, hear, smell, feel, taste. Remember to include when this is

happening, where it could be and who might be involved.

Make the reader feel like they are in the location in each of your sentences.

If you cannot access the video, have a go at improving my description below, remember to

include the features above. You could completely rewrite the sentence to make it better.

The sun is in the sky and is going towards the water. There is a castle. The stones make a

sort of bridge thing. There are dragons flying. It is very bright where the sun is and darker

everywhere else. There is the sun’s reflection.

Weekly Art project:

Natural object collage

Whilst you’re on your daily walk over the next few days collect

natural objects: pinecones, leaves, flowers, sticks. Use the objects

to create a collage, thinking carefully about the different textures

and shapes you can create using different objects. The art can be as

big or small as you like and would work well as a collaborative

piece with other members of your family.
