AROUND THE WORLD … Excitement is mounting as the students and staff prepare for tomorrow evening – a concert where every student is involved in an item. The Kitchen Garden Club, under the guidance of Mrs Fitzgerald will be offering a selection of snacks for sale from 5.15pm through until 5.45pm (or until stock is sold). Please see the attached menu and price list but certainly you are most welcome to bring along your own little picnic basket. The concert will start at 6.00pm sharp, so all children must be with their class teacher for preparations, no later than 5.50pm. Bring along a picnic rug or deck chair and enjoy the entertainment! Concerts are not only about show casing the talent of students but also are an important opportunity to teach children about being/having an appreciative audience that adheres to audience protocol – through such things as remaining seated throughout the performance, keeping distractions to a minimum (toddlers remain with parents and not play on the fixed equipment) and stay for entire performance to not miss out on the much anticipated finale and drawing of the P&C raffle. Thank you for assisting to make this concert special for everyone – a lot of work has been committed by staff and students to bring you, our audience an enjoyable evening. A pat on the back … I would like to congratulate the Moree Public School community on a successful year of teaching and learning. Assistant Principal, Mr Andrew McDonald has recently produced a video clip which highlights our school. This was originally created to show our city friends at Neutral Bay Public School what MPS is about. The clip is really quite brilliant so please take the time to have a look. The address is https://youtu.be/ME8FD-gzWZU As the clip shows we can all be extremely pleased with the effort our students have put into learning and with their subsequent achievements. In NAPLAN and in the ICAS competitions there were many outstanding individual performances with students achieving at the highest levels. We should also be very pleased with student achievement in other areas. As a school, we greatly value the performing arts, sport and most importantly, we value the qualities of respect, honesty, integrity, cooperation – these are the qualities that will help children live rich and rewarding lives. 2017 plans … Next year we will see changes in the way we assess children and plan for their learning needs as determined by the Early Action for Success Program. We will have two additional Deputy Principal Instructional Leaders to support this initiative. MPS will also implement the Learning Management and Business Reform initiative that will significantly change the way we manage our school administration. These programs will require much time and commitment by staff but we also anticipate a positive impact on student learning. Throughout the year I have reported on the achievements of our students in academic, sporting and cultural endeavours. These achievements have been many and have been possible because of the dedication and hard work of teachers and support staff as well as the support and participation of parents and community members. On behalf of the staff and students, I thank everyone who has contributed to our school this year. Please have a happy and safe Christmas. First Day 2017 Term 1 2017 will commence for students in Years 1 to 6 on Monday 6th February. Kindergarten children will commence on Tuesday 7 th February 2017. Presentation Ceremony appreciation to everyone who attended this function. Member for Northern Tablelands, Mr Adam Marshal MP was highly impressed by the ceremony and by the level of parent and community support for the event. Moree Public School is filled with awesome children who arrive each day ready, willing and able to learn together. Our presentation ceremony recognised the effort children have put into their learning. There were very big smiles on the faces of students as they accepted awards. Many students were recognised for their outstanding performance in class, in external ICAS competitions Monday 12 th December 2016

Congratulated for this fantastic commitment to reading!

and in sport. My congratulations go to all students who received awards. They have worked hard and should be proud of their efforts. However, the ultimate reward is the self-satisfaction gained through knowing, you have done your best! Congratulations to our school captains and prefects who led the ceremony brilliantly. Many, many people have commented to me on what an enjoyable and well organised evening it was. Moree Public School is fortunate to have an outstanding team of student leaders in 2016 and we commend their commitment and dedication. As leaders, as ambassadors for our school, and as role models for other students the eight students have done an exceptional job. Congratulations to Prefects - Shelby Thompson-Graham, Elyne Tighe, Johnte Boughton and Skye Carroll; Vice Captains - Harry Hardman and Keiara Johnson; and the Captains- Mac Orr and Lucy Carter. Good luck in high school boys and girls. Likewise, we congratulate our 2017 student leaders, whom I am confident will maintain the strong leadership traditions and represent our school with distinction. Prefects: Noah Humphries, Gabrielle Elbourne, Theo Maybury and Reese Boughton Vice Captains: Archie Matthews and Rachel Makim Captains: Jack Hunt and Millicent Beattie Student Mediators are also a vital group of student who undertake an important role supporting their peers. Our departing 2016 Year 6 mediators have been excellent role models doing a fantastic job helping other students. We thank them all for all of their time and effort - Lucy Carter, Mac Orr, Morgan O’Dempsey, Harry Hardman, Ava Kellett, Skye Carroll, Hannah Bowerman and Rachael Jennings. Congratulations to the 2017 student mediators, joining the team - Dusty Smith, Marni Ryan, Ellah Briggs, Sam Carter, Jemma Jackson, Ryan Hunt, Philippa Schoupp and Rory Hodges. Year 6 Farewell held last Monday was a special evening with students receiving certificates and celebrating with a disco. As a group, I must say students have taken pride in themselves and have been positive role models for younger children. Their years at our school have given them firm foundations on which to build. We wish all Year 6 students success and happiness as they begin the next stage of learning at high school. We are confident that if students continue to work hard they will continue to learn and grow and most importantly, succeed at high school and in later life. Of course, as we all know, life can present many opportunities (grasp them with open arms) but also hurdles and challenges. Please remember in such circumstances that often it is our attitude and maintaining a positive course of action that can determine a more desirable outcome. I am sure our Year 6 students, their parents and friends join with me in thanking Mr Cooper and his team for the wonderful organisation of the evening. Dancing and music … a wonderful way to celebrate! The heat

did not deter students from putting on an energetic dancing display at the Year 3-6 and K-2 discos on Monday and Tuesday nights, respectively. There was quite a lot of very fancy footwork as the children enjoyed themselves. Our resident deejays, Mr McDonald and Miss Williams played the latest music as children danced and screamed with excitement. A live performance by Studio Time, gave the dancers a little taste of ‘a live performance’ and again, I thank all of the MPS teachers who gave their time to organise and supervise the discos. The SRC under the guidance of Mrs McLane and Mrs Ross did a marvellous job with the refreshment stall and the P&C ladies conducted a great trade with some rather exciting (and tricky to put together) glow-in-the dark products. Thanks everyone!

Mr Adrian King
