English Maths Physical Activity ART

You have 45-60 minutes for English.

Reading This week in reading we are making inferences and learning to infer. This means that we use our prior knowledge, the title and clues from the text to help us understand what is happening in the story. Listen to the story of The Rainbow Fish. How were the other fish feeling? Why? How was Rainbow Fish

behaving? Why? What made every fish feel better about themselves and their behaviour? https://www.storylineonline.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/TheRainbowFish.jpg Handwriting Using your best handwriting, complete the next page of your WritingTime Handwriting Book, letter Zz. Practice this letter using the correct formation in your Kid Writing book, using the lines. Soundwaves and Grammar - word family ‘ip’ Create a rhyming list of words that end in ‘ip’ - lip, sip, slip, rip, clip, whip, snip, dip, drip..add on. Allow the children to hear and record the sounds in a list so they see the repetitive ending, the pattern of the sounds ‘ip’. Can you make a word ending in ‘ip’ that starts with /ch/ or /sh/. Write a sentence with these 2 words and draw a picture to match.

Mental Maths Complete the third Mental Maths page for this week, adding +1 each time. Tech Maths Blast Off – Finding numbers and counting ON and BACK to 20 (or to 100): https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/blast-off Sequencing numbers – Click on the ‘Sequencing’ button and then drag the numbers to their correct place in order: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/chinese-dragon-ordering Base Ten Bingo (Counting by 10s) – Click on the number that matches the collection. Keep going until you get bingo!: https://www.abcya.com/games/base_ten_bingo Shark Numbers (Place Value) – Click on the numbers that match the collections of Tens and Ones: http://www.ictgames.com/sharkNumbers/mobile/index.html Mental Maths Train – Addition/Subtraction up to 10, 25 or 100: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train

Trick shot Tuesday

There have been some fantastic trick shots the last two weeks. Let’s see if we can make the trick shot even harder this week!

Can you create a different shot to the one you did last week? A different spot in the house, a different piece of equipment, different materials.

Think:

● Table tennis ball in a cup

● Basketball shot from a distance or over your head

● Football/soccer kick into a bin from around a corner

● Frisbee through two trees

● Tennis ball throw - knocking over a bottle

● Behind the back throwing

● Golf putt or chip

Check out the Weebly website for some awesome student trick shots they have done in the last two weeks.

Mud Painting and Drawing

Famous land artist Richard Long creates a permanent massive pattern mud

painting on the inside wall of a building using only his hands and a bucket of

watery mud from a cherry picker. See it

painted from beginning to end on this 17 minute video here:

https://youtu.be/JD2Ai_BECbg

See a different way of mud painting to

make pictures of things with details using lots of different tones of mud and

brushes in this short video here:

https://youtu.be/vEVyacmtaTU

Make a mud painting on any surface, it can be on paper, bark, concrete or ask

your parents or carer to use a fence or wall. Make your mud first in a container, you can collect different tones of mud or

just the one, then you can use either your fingers, hands or brushes. What will you paint with it? A pattern or a

picture? It’s your choice.

English Maths Physical Activity Well Being Wednesday

You have 45-60 minutes for English.

Reading Select a story, from your home library, Reading Eggs library or Epic! and read this to somebody at home with you. Remember to write this into your yellow diary. Creative Writing - Storylands Reading Eggs Click on the Storylands icon on Reading Eggs. Choose your characters and create a narrative story. Try to add interesting words. Always remember to start your sentences with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Can you illustrate this story, drawing the characters and the setting? Soundwaves Find /ch/ and /sh/ on your Sound Mat and sing the chants. Can you think of 3 words that start with /ch/? Can you think of 2 words that end in /ch/? Can you think of 3 words that start with /sh/? Can you think of 2 words that end in /sh/? OPTIONAL - Log onto Soundwaves and go into Discovering Graphemes. Find the icon shell icon and explore the games.

Mental Maths Complete the fourth Mental Maths page for this week, adding +2 each time. *Keep your booklet handy for your learning next week, as more Mental Maths pages will be sent out then for you to add.* Sharing Equally You might like to use Lego, blocks, stones, etc. as counters to help you with this activity. Using a deck of playing cards (or number cards that you have made yourself), flip over one number. This is how many of your blocks/objects you are going to share. Roll a dice and whatever number you roll is how many people/groups you need to share your blocks/objects with. Answer these questions each time you share a collection:

- How many groups do you have? - How many are in each group?

Draw or write down your answers in a workbook, on a piece of paper, or on a whiteboard. Share your learning with your teacher on

Optional: Play either the ‘What’s My Share?’ game or The Sharing Game from last week.

Wiggling Wednesday

On Wednesdays we dance!

You may remember some of these dances from the last time we were at home learning.

This week: Tap

https://youtu.be/eiAauAGwPlg

If you would like to, send a video into the Weebly website of you dancing.

Gratitude is the Attitude!

Gratitude is a positive emotion. It’s about focusing on what is good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have! It’s fun to find things for which you are grateful. You can be grateful for a person, a place, or something else, like a family trip or sunset. When you remind yourself to be grateful, you are happier, healthier and more present. (Big Life Journal)

Have a go at completing the following journal page or head to the Well-Being Page for a Gratitude

Game the whole family can enjoy…

Remember, it’s not happy people who are grateful, it is grateful people who are happy! This week’s Community Connection Event is our ‘Brighten the Day’ Parade. More Information can be found on the Well Being Page.

Thursday Block One Blocks Two and Three Block Four

English Maths Physical Activity Spanish

You have 45-60 minutes for English.

Reading Eggs Log onto Reading Eggs. Continue with your next task of spelling and sound work. Choose a book from the Reading Eggs library. Did you enjoy this book? Why? Write a note in your Reading Diary.

Writing and Spelling: Oxford words and Grammar - past tense adding ‘ed.’ Continue with the work last week to discuss past tense and when we use ‘ed’, for example, “We played at school. I liked the chocolate ice-cream. I jumped in the mud.” Write your 3 Oxford words in sentences and post them on Seesaw for your teacher.

Soundwaves Complete the ch/sh sorting activity and have a go

at writing the word to match each picture. Can you write a sentence using some of these words or words from your list you created yesterday?

Warm Up Using a deck of playing cards (or number cards that you have made yourself), flip over one number at a time and answer the new Number Warm Up questions for this week (found on the School’s home learning website). Problem Solving – The Doorbell Rang (Sharing) Watch the following story called ‘The Doorbell Rang’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-tqjCPnHLg Then share 12 cookies between 2, 4, 6 and 12 people and write down how many cookies each person gets each time – You can do this in a workbook/on a piece of paper and use counters to help you solve the problems, or you can print the ‘The Doorbell Rang’ pages (found on the IKPS Remote Learning website) and cut out and use the paper cookies to complete the activity in that booklet. Answer these questions each time you share the ‘cookies’:

- How many groups do you have? - How many are in each group?

Extension: What if you had to share 12 cookies between 3, 5 and 8 people? How

many would each person get each time? Is the sharing fair and equal? Would there be any leftover cookies?

Throwback Thursday

Hand string

Hand string is an activity that will help develop fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. There are many different figures you can make and plenty of videos on Youtube that can help you along the way.

Below is a link with numerous figures you can make. Have a go at as many as you can.

https://pin.it/4jTxX1l

Send in a photo using the Weebly FARL website of a string figure that you were able to create.

Off on another adventure!

Ladies and gentlemen, we remind you

that as we approach the active

Volcano, you must remain close to your

guide. Please stay on the marked path

for your best view of sloths, toucans

and monkeys.

We hope that you packed your

binoculars, as this week we are

venturing through the jungles, banana

plantations and volcanoes of Costa

Rica.

Download the ‘Choose your own

Adventure’ page from the Specialist

section of the website, and learn about

Costa Rica. Maybe you’ll be looking at

street art by famous artist Nega,

simulating a volcanic eruption using

kitchen ingredients, or observing

beautiful birds. Remember you can

complete just one or as many of the

activities as you like!

When finished, fill in another page of

your ‘Pasaporte’. Add the date, a

picture of the flag, and then draw or

write about your stay in Costa Rica.

Friday - 9am zoom meeting Block One Blocks Two and Three Block Four

English Maths Physical Activity Music Reading - Inferring and Writing - Animal Reports We use our prior knowledge and clues to help us understand the meaning of a story. Watch the ABC Miniscule clip below. Without words we can follow the story! Use your knowledge of insects and life cycles to retell this story. You are inferring, using your knowledge and skills to do this . Write at least 3 sentences in your Kid Writing Book to explain what this story is about. https://youtu.be/yqc4ZQwJYoU Spelling Test your spelling! Hopefully there is someone at home who can read out your 3 words to you while you write them down. Highlight the correct words on your Oxford Sheet in your small spelling book and then write out your new (or same) 3 words for next week.’

Soundwaves and Grammar - word family ‘ug’ Create a list of ‘ug’ words. The Miniscule clip above will get you started - bug, ladybug, slug, snug, hug, rug. Can you make a silly sentence (that makes sense) using some of these words? The bug gave the slug a slimy hug. Draw a picture to match.

Place Value Warm Up Write the numbers 0 to 9 on separate cards or scraps of paper and place them in a hat. Then draw out two (or three) cards out of the hat. You can make different numbers. For example, if you pull out the numbers 3, 6, and 9, you could make 3, 6, 9, 36, 39, 93, 96, (or 396, 693), etc. Challenge yourself to make as many numbers as possible using the cards. What is the smallest number you can make? What is the largest number? *Help your child compare numbers by looking at the largest place value.*

Game Time – Then Play either of the following games: Place Value Race: 1. Deal the cards into two (for playing with tens), three (for playing with hundreds) or four (for playing with thousands) piles per player. 2. To begin play, each player turns over the top card from each of their piles. The player with the number of highest value wins the skirmish, placing all of their own and their opponent’s cards into a collected pile. 3. Repeat until all of the cards have been played. The player with the most cards in their collected pile is the winner.

Roll to 100: Children work in a pair to play this game. Take turns rolling one or two dice and then making the total of your roll using interlocking blocks (like Lego), or any other materials you have at home (icy-pole sticks, jellybeans, pebbles, etc.). Keep rolling your dice and gathering more blocks (or materials) and when you have a group of 10 ones, you can swap it for a rod/stick (or group) of 10. Continue rolling and swapping for sticks/groups of 10 every time you reach 10 ones. You can keep track of how many blocks (or materials) you have altogether, by lining them up on or next to the hundred grid. When you have collected 100 blocks (or materials) you can play again.

Flexible Friday Choose any activity that you wish to get your 30 minutes for the day.

● Ride your bike/scooter/skateboard/rollerblades.

● Play a game we have already played this week.

● Play something that we play in PE that you could play at home.

● Go for a vigorous walk.

● Explore our local beaches, walking tracks or bike paths.

● Build a cubby Have you ever been to the “Bluff”? As an option this week, check out the beautiful walk to Townsend Bluff. The walk starts at the end of the caravan park.

Choose your own adventure!

Costa Rica ¡Elije tu propia adventura!

Go Bananas

Costa Rica is a banana lover’s para-dise! Because of the tropical climate, and fertile, volcanic soil, bananas grow perfectly all over the country. Costa Rican growers have been ex-porting bananas for over 100 years, and apparently 1 in every 3 bananas eaten in the world are eaten originally from Costa Rica.

Can you:

guess how much banana weighs and then use scales to measure

have a banana eating contest!

freeze some bananas to make delicious smoothies

watch the video on the Spanish page on the home learning web-site about growing bananas

Street Art Culture

Costa Rica is full of colours—the jungles, beaches and old buildings. The capital city, San José also has some great street

art, adding to their colourful culture.

Look out for street art when you’re next out for a walk—do you know where the big wave is? Or the mu-ral at the foreshore caravan park? Or at the Kongwak market?

Watch a video of Costa Rican street artist Negus

Make a graffiti style name tag for yourself, and others in your family

Create street art on a safe footpath with chalk!

Make natural ’beach art’ using sea-weed, shells and sand!

Volcanic Adventure

Costa Rica has 5 active and more than 200 dormant volcanoes!

Volcano fun:

Make a volcano of Lego, playdough or sand?

What about mashed potato with tomato sauce or dinner?

Or a REAL eruption experie-ment—check out Karen, from our local library, in the video!

Listening Adventure

Costa Rica is a popular place for bird watching. Tourists visit the jun-gles to observe colourful birds chirp-ing away.

Spend some time bird watching. It could be in your yard at home, or out on a walk. The Screw Creek nature walk is a great place to ob-serve birds, as well as Ayre Creek Lagoon and Thompsons Reserve!
