Remember, light hand pressure when using your drawing pens.

One way to practice working with your pens is to create your unique signature. As an example, here are some variations of my initials, BK:

Tangles

Following are 11 tangle patters. Each day, pick a few you are most attracted and practice in your sketchbook before each lesson. You don’t have to fill a page; you can copy the step outs into your sketchbook or create a string and practice them two or three times in the string. Have fun with them.

Strings

The string is a pencil line created quickly and spontaneously, and creates a division of areas in which to lay tangles. Strings are the one opportunity in Zentangling to be spontaneous.
