Announcements regarding Anne Arundel County Government

are made on local TV and radio stations.

to inclement weather, Senior Activity Centers will be closed.

When County schools are closed due to weather, senior centers

will also be closed and all activities: Senior Center Plus, classes, lunches, transportation etc. will be cancelled.

If the schools are open two hours late, the Center will open late

(10:00.) Department of Aging and Disabilities transportation to the Centers and lunch at all Centers and Nutrition Sites are cancelled, as is Senior Center Plus. Classes with start times prior to 10:00 will be cancelled. Classes that begin at 10:00 or later will be held as scheduled.

Regularly scheduled Anne Arundel County Public School closures, delays, or early closures

(such as teacher work days or exams) do not affect the Senior Activity Centers. W here does the money raised at ASI Fundraisers go? The simple answer is that it goes into the ASI budget to cover

special events, programs, supplies, scholarships for Center courses, and other items and events which are not covered by the county budget and that enhance our Center and our Seniors. Budgeting is done by the ASI Board during the winter months for the upcoming year. Additional offerings are included during the year based upon needs and funds available. Some examples are the new 65” TV recently installed in the Library classroom and the upcoming purchase of a charge card reader as another method of payment for our trips, events, & purchases.

T hank you for participating in our restaurant fundraisers. The second annual Fundraiser at Brian Boru Restaurant will take

place on Thursday, March 5th with a special 3 course menu. You MUST present a flyer & the Center will receive $10.00 for each meal purchased!

T hank you, too, to all who submitted Future Needs surveys. They have been tallied and reviewed by the Board. We were hoping to hear from all Center participants, but we received only 36

completed surveys. What to do? We are going to use the preliminary data received to create anoth-er simpler survey and devise additional ways to receive your responses. We definitely need more responses to present to Anne Arundel County to justify any big changes that we request. Look for more information to come and please be part of the process!

This is the monthly Arnold Seniors,

Inc (ASI) news column. ASI is the

Arnold Senior Center’s fundraising

board, and we will be giving you

monthly updates of our

fundraising activities.

Arnold Senior Activity Center has many volunteer opportunities. Volunteers serve on the Board of ASI and Bus Trip Committee, work at the front desk, host parties, tend the garden areas, teach workshops, knit and crochet items to donate, plus much more. If you want to volunteer at the Center, see a staff member. We keep a record of the number of volunteer hours performed at the center each year, because this number impacts our funding. The Volunteer Book is kept at the front desk. Don’t forget to record your hours in the book and choose the volunteer box on the touchscreen when you sign in.

EXERC ISE EQU IPMENT ROOM The Exercise Equipment Room is open during normal business hours. Currently there are (2) Treadmills and (2) Recumbent Bicycles. Anyone wishing to use the equipment MUST attend a one-time safety orientation session in order to do so. The schedule for these trainings will be posted. Members are also required to sign in at the front desk each time before entering the Exercise Equipment Room.
