‘Pepsi’ wins Jacoby Open Swiss TeamsWinners of the Jacoby Open Swiss Teams: Sjoert Brink, Jacek Kalita, captain Jacek “Pepsi” Pszczola, Bas Drijver and Michal Nowosadzki. (Not pictured: Josef Blass.) Pszczola’s four-session total was 125.62 victory points, just ahead of Stan Tulin’s squad who finished with 122.70.

Levin, Weinstein win Mott-Smith

Robert Levin and Steve Weinstein tied for winning the Mott-Smith Trophy for earning the most masterpoints at the Spring NABC. With 200 masterpoints for winning the Kay Platinum Pairs and 180 for finishing second in the Vanderbilt, their total was 380, more than 32 points ahead of Zach Grossack.

Mark Dahl of Richmond VA and Richard Oshlag of Memphis TN successfully defended their title in the NABC Fast Pairs. Dahl and Oshlag were second in Saturday’s qualifying round, and they were solid in the two-session final, scoring 61.69% in the first session and 60.22% in the second.

Dahl and Oshlag have won three NABC titles as partners or teammates.

The winners’ four-session total of 1294.14 put them almost two boards ahead of runners-up Leo LaSota of Glen Burnie MD and Brad Theurer of Gaithersburg MD who finished with 1230.60 (top in the final was 38). LaSota and Theurer won the qualifying round, but scored 59.26% and 53.85% in the final sessions.

Second in the Jacoby Open Swiss Teams: Alon Birman, Dror Padon, captain Stan Tulin, Cornelis Van Prooijen, David Bakhshi and Louk Verhees.

Fleisher takes Vanderbilt winIn the final of the Vanderbilt Knockout Teams, Marty Fleisher’s squad defeated Nick Nickell and company, 133-95. Fleisher won the first quarter by a lopsided 56-0, and despite a second-quarter rally by Nickell, the eventual winners’ lead was not challenged the rest of the match.
