Writing This week for your historical fiction you will be writing a diary entry. Remember diary entries show the deep and personal feelings that someone is going through. Some diary recounts of historical events are famous now. Think Anne Frank from World War 2. You can use these for some research but remember yours will be fiction. Today, select your historical event (one you haven’t written about yet) and do some research. Some events could be: Vikings Suffragettes Gay marriage (legalised) Vietnam War Marie Antionette/French Revolution Mental Maths The weekly Mental Maths sheets are broken up into Monday - Thursday daily questions. These questions should get you thinking. They should have you using the knowledge and skills that you already have. Choosing a suitable level is important. Take a photo or video of yourself participating in our virtual jump off and send in via the Seesaw activity. Geography At the end of the 6 weeks of Flexible and Remote Learning, you will present a project on a country of your choice. When we say present your project that means on a poster etc. It does not mean you need to do an oral presentation to your class. You may present your information in any way you choose. It may be a poster, Prezi, website, video, PowerPoint presentation etc. Make sure your work is presented in a neat and interesting way. Today, research a country of your choice. Choose one that you may want to travel to, have a connection or family history with. Your project will need to include the following information. 1. Compare livability to Australia with your country. Identify Australia’s connection to your country. This may be family, travel, business, trading etc. You may use a venn diagram. 2. Discuss and compare a range of factors including climate, population, government, environment that are unique in your country. 3. Reading Read a book of your choice for 15-20 minutes. Today you will be completing a descriptive and detailed book talk. You can do it on the book you are currently reading or on a book you have recently finished. It may even be a picture story book. Remember book talks need to start with a hook, include a summary and a recommendation or opinion. You can write this in your Reading Book and read it to a friend or family member if you wish.

Writing Today you will begin planning your diary entry. Remember to include - ● significant dates and make

sure that the events flow in the correct order.

● vocabulary that would have been used at that time.

You may choose to do one diary entry or several, to show the characters emotions over a duration of time. Remember that historical fiction is based on true events and details, with fictional characters. Put yourself in the moment.

Tech Maths Today your task is to engage with some interactive tasks. Access -

Here you have a pod of set tasks named Revision Mentals: Yr 5: 97-108 Yr 6: 133-144 Remember you can have a paper and pencil next to you to help you work out answers. If you don’t complete all of the tasks you can always revisit in the next few days and complete the pod.

Trick shot Tuesday

There have been some fantastic trick shots the last two weeks. Let’s see if we can make the trick shot even harder this week!

Can you create a different shot to the one you did last week? A different spot in the house, a different piece of equipment, different materials.

Think:

● Table tennis ball in a cup ● Basketball shot from a

distance or over your head ● Football/soccer kick into a

bin from around a corner ● Frisbee through two trees ● Tennis ball throw - knocking

over a bottle ● Behind the back throwing ● Golf putt or chip

Check out the Weebly website for some awesome student trick shots they have done in the last two weeks.

Mud Painting and Drawing

Famous land artist Richard Long creates a massive permanent pattern mud painting on the inside wall of a building using only his hands and a bucket of watery mud from a cherry picker. See it painted from beginning to end on this 17 minute video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=JD2Ai_BECbg&feature=youtu.be

See a different way of mud painting to make pictures of things with details using lots of different tones of mud and brushes in this short video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=vEVyacmtaTU&feature=youtu.be

Make a mud painting on any surface, it can be on paper, bark, concrete or ask your parents or carer to use a fence or wall. Make your mud first in a container, you can collect different tones of mud or just the one. Then you can use either your fingers, hands or brushes. What will you paint with it? A pattern or a picture? It’s your choice.

Reading Continue reading/listening to ‘Once’ by Morris Gleitzman. Listen to Chapter 11 and answer the following questions. 1. What does Felix do to

try to escape? How does Barney handle it?

2. What does Felix find out about Barney and how does Barney get Felix to help him?

*You will find the video of Mr. V. reading ‘Once’ in the Literacy Resources sections on the 5/6 Weebly page.

Writing Today is the day you begin writing your historical diary entry. Try to remember some of the writing techniques that we used recently such as hooks, connectives, show don't tell, alliteration, rule of three, etc.

Number This week in number we will focus on multiplication. There are 3 activities provided. 1. The first is a page with 100 multiplication facts

to complete. Time yourself completing each column of 20. See if you can improve your time!

Note: Complete the first activity as a minimum. The next two activities can be completed as an extension. 2. The second page is a series of multiplication

problems. They are 3/4 digit numbers to be multiplied by a single digit.

3. The third page is a series of multi-digit by

multi-digit problems (e.g. 7,579 x 189). They are there for those people that would like to challenge themselves.

Note: The second and third pages should be completed in your Maths Book to give you the room you need for working out. *The multiplication sheets and answers are located in the Maths Resources section on the 5/6 Weebly page. Answers will be posted on Friday.

Wiggling Wednesday

On Wednesdays WE DANCE!

You may remember some of these dances from the last time we were at home learning.

This week: Tap

If you would like to, send a video to the Weebly website of your dancing.

Gratitude is the Attitude!

Gratitude is a positive emotion. It’s about focusing on what is good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have! It’s fun to find things for which you are grateful. You can be grateful for a person, a place, or something else, like a family trip or sunset. When you remind yourself to be grateful, you are happier, healthier and more present (Big Life Journal).

Have a go at completing the following journal page or head to the Wellbeing page for a gratitude game that the whole family can enjoy.

REMEMBER - it’s not happy people who are grateful, it is grateful people who are

happy!

This week’s Community Connection Event is our ‘Brighten the Day’ Parade. More information can be found on the Wellbeing page on the FARL website.

For more OPTIONAL Family Fun Activities and Positive Coping Strategies, please go to the Wellbeing page on the FARL website.

Speaking & Listening Watch Episode 25 of BTN. Today we would like you to take notes on one of the stories in your BTN book. You can then turn this into a poster in your SWIM/Inquiry book. It should be creative, organised and include all relevant information.

*OPTIONAL You can still read today as well. Stamina/Independent read your own book for as long as you can.

Writing Today you need to finish your draft for your historical diary entry. You will need to edit your work well and uplevel your vocabulary to improve the quality. You should also edit your work to improve your spelling and grammar.

Problem Solving Today a series of worded problems have been posed for you to work through. It is important that you approach these with a growth mindset. They should provide you with an opportunity to test your thinking. You should read through the problems and make note of ‘What Maths is this problem asking me to do?’

1. The first group of problems are 2 step problems, they require you to complete 2 calculations to find an answer.

2. The second set of problems are

multi step problems that will require a number of calculations to find an answer.

Make sure to write the required sums in the order that you do them to find your answer.

Throwback Thursday

Hand string

Hand string is an activity that will help develop fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. There are many different figures you can make and plenty of videos on YouTube that can help you along the way.

Below is a link with numerous figures you can make. Have a go at making as many as you can.

https://pin.it/4jTxX1l

Send in a photo using the Weebly FARL website of a string figure that you were able to create.

Off on another adventure!

Ladies and gentlemen, we remind you that as we approach the active Volcano, you must remain close to your guide. Please stay on the marked path for your best view of sloths, toucans and monkeys. We hope that you packed your binoculars, as this week we are venturing through the jungles, banana plantations and volcanoes of Costa Rica. Download the ‘Choose your own Adventure’ page from the Specialist section of the website, and learn about Costa Rica. Maybe you’ll be looking at street art by famous artist Nega, simulating a volcanic eruption using kitchen ingredients, or observing beautiful birds. Remember you can complete just one or as many of the activities as you like! When finished, fill in another page of your ‘Pasaporte’. Add the date, a picture of the flag, and then draw or write about your stay in Costa Rica.

art, adding to their colourful culture.

Look out for street art when you’re next out for a walk—do you know where the big wave is? Or the mu-ral at the foreshore caravan park? Or at the Kongwak market?

Make a graffiti style name tag for yourself, and others in your family

Create street art on a safe footpath with chalk!
