There are many similarities and differences when comparing (category of comparison) in (Region 1) and (Region 2) during the (Time Period). First, Region 1 and Region 2 are similar in that both (identify specific similarity). This is due to (include explanation of WHY or HOW similar). First, Mesopotamia and Egypt are similar in that both are ruled autocratically, or by one person. Mesopotamian city-states are ruled by kings, and Egypt is ruled by a pharaoh. Next, Mesopotamia and Egypt are also similar because both use religion to legitimize political rule. Egyptian pharaohs claim to be gods, while the Mesopotamian kings claim to have a direct relationship with the gods. Finally, Mesopotamian and Egyptian political organizations are different because Mesopotamia is decentralized into city-states due to its lack of natural barriers beyond the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. City-states allowed Mesopotamia to more rapidly protect itself, while Egypt’s natural protection through the Nile River and the Sahara Desert allowed for more centralized rule.

Egypt and Mesopotamia are very similar and different. Egypt developed along the Nile River and used it farm and trade. Pharaohs were considered gods and maintained centralized control over Egypt. Because the Nile flooded predictably, they were able to become successful economically. The Egyptians were polytheistic and built the pyramids to honor the gods. The Mesopotamians also built monumental architecture to honor their complex system of gods and goddesses. They used cuneiform to help administer the city-states within the region and write law codes such as Hammurabi’s Code. The Tigris and Euphrates flooded unpredictably causing them to fear their gods and try to appease them.
