Guidelines Candidates Must:
Be a student in grades 6-12 in their school.
Have knowledge of money management skills (decision-making related to spending and saving, investing, use of credit, etc.) appropriate for their age and grade level.
Demonstrate how they practice good money management skills in their daily lives.
Live in the Greater Houston area.

In support of Money Week Houston 2011 April 4-8, 2011 Money Week Houston and
its partner organizations are sponsoring the Money Week Houston Smart Kid Essay
Contest. Students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to answer this year’s Money Week
Houston Smart Kid Question (see below) with an essay of 500 words or less. Two finalists
will be selected and each student will win $2,500.00. In addition the two students will
attend the Money Week Houston Kick-Off Reception the week of April 4, 2011.

ESSAY CONTEST To Apply:
Student must be recommended by a teacher using the attached form. (Note: Official school sponsorship is notrequired.)
Student must have parent or guardian permission to apply and participate.
Student must write an essay (500 words or less) on the assigned topic.
Essays should be typed on plain white paper, double-spaced. The Money Week Houston Smart Kid ApplicationForm should be attached to the essay pages.
The essay must be the work of the student submitting the essay.
The application form must be signed by the teacher and a parent/guardian. No teacher may sign more than five recommendations.
