Conception

The valve monitor is the industrial automation equipmentthat has been applied in a large scale for industrial networksbecause it provides a great reduction of costs with a simpleproject, assembly (electric and mechanic), operation andmaintenance. It had been developed to automatize rotating valves orpneumatic actuators, as much in general purpose installationas in industrial networks .

The new valve monitoring system is assembled in analuminum box (soon in stainless steel and plastic). Itintegrates a local and remote valve signaling through anelectronic board (PNP, NPN, NAMUR, dry contact or industrialnetwork) and a low power solenoid valve (plastic, brass, aluminum and also in instainless steel).

Valve Monitorfor rotative pneumatic

actuator

The valve monitoring system was designed for valve

automation allowing:

Local signaling: Indicates the valve status (open or closed position) and activates the positioning sensors, installedin the network board, allowing the total adjustment of the activation angles of the two sensors.

Remote Signaling: The electronic board with outputsPNP, NPN, Exi Namur and dry contact. On industrialnetwork applications the boards send the valve statusposition and receive the command to activate thesolenoid through the network.

Smart tap: Eliminating the assembling accessories suchas cables, connectors and tap boxes. Allows the networkcable to get in and off the equipment through screwedterminals and also allows the replacement of the networkboard and of the solenoid without powering off the rest of the network. On Ex version, after removing the coverfrom the enclosure, the smart tap automatically poweroff the network board even on potentially explosiveatmospheres.

Solenoid valves: The housing has an adapter boardallowing different solenoid suppliers to be used butalways keeping the solenoid coil protected inside the box.

Housing: Electrostatic painting aluminum has IP66protection degree and two cable glands (three othersoptional cable glands).

The monitor can be provided without local visual indication

mainly when the local has hard access for the operators. It´s

installed directly in the axis of the valve or pneumatic actuator.

It has the actuators to activate the sensors that indicate the

valve remote position.

The monitor can be provided with a high visibility localindicator installed in the axis of the valve or in the pneumaticactuator indicating the valve open or closed position. It hastwo actuators to activate the sensors that indicate the valveremote position.

General purpose signaling modules The valves signaling modules were developed to automatize rotating valves, mainly with 1/4 turn (90o) pneumatic actuators. They have basically two sensors that detect the open and closed valve position and the indication is made by a Local indicator.

This technology is based on the traditional inductive proximity sensors with high repeatability and reliability without mobile parts, operating per many years without faults and also in hard environments with chemical agents, humidity, vibration, dust, eg.

Remote Signaling by NetworkThe network signalling modules are perfect for valves automation because they can transmit through an cable the open or closed state of the valve and it can receive the commands for activating the solenoid. The low power valve can be connected directly onthe network . Another advantage of the network system is the possibility of the module to transmit diagnostics mainly ofshort-circuit or when the solenoid coil is openned. The modules are available in AS-Interface, DeviceNet and DP Profibusversions.

Network PCB Function

Through the network it is possible to send the valve signalingstate and receive the command to activate the outputs that may use the network power line to activate the solenoid coil thatmoves the actuator.

The network PCBs replace the remote signaling sensors. HallEffect transistors are assembled on PCB module encapsulatedby a resin that fills all the housing.

The PCB module is available for AS-Interface, Devicenet and DP Profibus protocols and allows besides the remote signaling thevalve activation, offering easy connection through screwedterminals, leds for sensor outputs signaling and by networkstatus.

TopologyTopology is the common term used to illustrate the way of connection among the network instruments. There are several typesof topology therefore some of them are applied in a specific network. See below some examples.

DeviceNetDeviceNet industrial network is a low level network that allows the communication since the simplest equipment as I/O modules, sensors and actuators up to the most complex devices as programmable logical controllers (PLCs) and microcomputers.DeviceNet is based on CAN protocol (Controller Area Network) developed by Bosh in 80s originally for automobile application.Later it was adapted to use in the industrial processes due to the excellent performance reached in automobile manufacturers.

In fact in a vehicle we have all the critical characteristics that we find in an industry as a high temperature, humidity, electromagnetic noises and at the same time that we need a high response speed and reliability therefore the airbag and theABS brake are directly involved with the risk of human lives.

The CAN Protocol defines the MAC ID code (Media Access Control) in an exclusive priority system that does not lose datas in case of collisions, therefore the device with the less priority detects the dominant one and waits the conclusion of the transmission.

Several control types are used in the communication frame being possible to detect data errors (CRC); check acknowledge(ACK), frame errors (FORM) among others. DeviceNet is very versatile and supported by vendors around of the world thatmanufacture a lot of equipments like intelligent sensors, interfaces, etc.

This way Devicenet is a stable network designed to meet the performance and reliability requirements of the industrialenvironment tecnology working in the most intelligent way.

Example of topology Network terminator

The terminator must be installed in the beginning and in theend of the network between wires white and blue.

The Profibus network allows the communication between devices of different manufacturers without any special adjustment. Itcan be used in real time applications (with the active PLC) that require high speed or in complex communication tasks. There are three functional communication protocols (communication Profiles): PA, DP and FMS. The profile of DPcommunication is more frequently used and its optmized to high speed, efficiency, low cost, linking the communication betweenautomation systems and distributed peripherals. If DP is used instead of the conventional 4..20mA technology are sumed up to more than 40% the cost saving. DP Profileapplication is indicated to substitute the parallel transmission, which is used in the industrial automation, as for the analogicaltransmission in the automatized process. DP has been designed for fast data exchange at field level. Data exchange with thedistributed devices is primarily cyclic. The upper level devices (such as PLC/PC or Process Control Systems ) communicate between the field distributed devices (suchas drivers, valves, I/Os or transducers) through of serie connections. The I/O data exchange between field devices are cyclicaland the configuration data exchange is acyclic. DP Profibus allows to establish connections up to 127 slaves however some addresses already are busy. The address 0 is used foreventual programming tool, address 126 is used for a default slave and the address 127 is reserved for broadcast transmission (not used when in the network there is just one master) where an active station sends a message (not confirmed) to all the other active stations (masters and slaves). Thus 125 possible addresses are remained (from 1 to 125).The addressing for Sense monitors is limited to the 99 addresses. The transmission technology is the RS-485 that is able to reach up to 15km of distance depending on the communication rate with repeaters.

AS-Interface is a low cost connection system developed to operate through of the 2-wire cable which also supplies the power and digital communication in a distance up to 100m that can be extended with repeaters/expanders.

Especially indicated for low levels in the the process automation with simple field devices such as keys, proximity sensors, auxiliary contacts, solenoids valves, contactors, etc. where they need to operate in isolated local and controlled by PLC or PC.

The AS-Interface network is the best substitution for the traditional wire architectures. One special chip was developed to beused to the module or devices connections having assured the low cost and the robust performance.

AS-Interface (AS-i) means Actuator-Sensor Interface and is the simplest solution of an industrial automation network. It is ideal for sensors and actuators to work in a network automation system. This bus is an efficient alternative to connect all thedevices to the controller using only one pair of wires. The efficiency by a network can be improved through the thousands ofproducts and a lot of available applications.

The network installation without a previous project takes the bad operational results becaming the correction of the networkmistakes hard therefore the bases had not been observed.

All the future functionality by AS-i network starts with a previous and detailed project showing all the connection instruments onthe bus with all the specificationss like model, tag, physical localization, inputs, outputs and the network branching.

AS-Interface cables:

Flat cable - The yellow flat cable is standard for AS-i network. It has a specified geometric section and transmits at the sametime data and power supply to the sensors.

Round cable - Sense developed a round cable that has the same electric caracteristics (section, impedance and capacitance)that allows the network installation with the same 100 m of length. It must be used to connect the equipment of certifiednetwork for using in hazardous areas.

Internal Derivation SystemThis exclusive network cable derivation system totally integrated to the monitor allows to substitute the electronic board or thesolenoid valve without powering off the rest of the network.

Topology

Exclusive]Hot Swapping Network Module

The only product for valve monitoring that allows toexchange the network electronic module withoutinterrupting the rest of the network, in hazardous areasZone 1.

]Solenoid Exchange

The same way the solenoid coil can be substituted without powering off the network, also in Zone 1.

Working Principle Sense internal derivator has screwed terminals withincreased security for connecting the network cable. Thecable enter and leave of the monitor through the cableglands. When the cable is accomodated no risk ofsparking is possible even in confined enclosure.

The network derivation is destined to the coupling of the electronic module that only will be energized when themonitor cover is completely closed.

In the encapsulated derivator there are sensibleelements to the magnet installed in the monitor cover. The network derivation is energized when the cover isinstalled.

Intrinsic Security Equivalent Technology

Due to the exclusive derivation system the SV monitor incorporates facilities of maintenance even energized that only the IntrinsicSecurity could provide.

The Security Increased Technology is applied in SV monitors allowing its maintenance in POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVEATMOSPHERES classified as ZONA 1 with the smart solution allowing maintenance without shut dow the network.
