Introduction/BackgroundHow the JEI started?

•A group of nonprofit, Information Technology (IT), and telecom industry leaders in the World Economic Forum (WEF) agreed to join forces to improve education within one developing country•Jordan was selected because of the country’s vision for the future of education and its people•In early 2002, the WEF organized an Initiative kick-off meeting in London, inviting organizations from around the world to participate in the Jordan Education Initiative (JEI). •The JEI was conceived at the extraordinary IT and Telecom Governance meeting at the WEF meeting in January, 2003•The JEI was launched in the WEF Jordan meeting in June 2003 at the Dead Sea

In-Classroom Technology

• Technical infrastructure in all 100 Discovery School deployed

• 80,000 students, 3200 teachers in 100 Discovery Schools are fully networked, connected and have access to computer labs and online curricula

• Teachers provided with laptops and projectors to deliver e-contents.

Impact Assessment

• Task One: examine the current state of ICT use and pedagogical practices in the Discovery Schools.

• Task Two: analyzes the nature of the public-private partnership.

• Task Three: assess the information technology infrastructure and the adequacy of these platforms to support e-learning in the Discovery Schools.

• Task Four: assess the cost implications of scaling up the JEI technology platforms and e-learning approaches to additional school.

Impact Assessment Main Recommendations• Develop JEI capacity;• Deepen local evaluation and monitoring capacity

for education technology;• Provide learning opportunities for principals,

teachers and supervisors;• Continue supporting innovation and distribution

of e-content and infrastructure;• Expand and fortify technical support and

maintenance strategies to go to scale;• Provide opportunities for students and

Site SurveyTo monitor and evaluate the roll out of the e-content in DS. Data are collected from each DS on the use of the e-content by subject and grade, the use of computer labs and laptop computers, training of teachers in the use of ICT and e-content, and the status and technical support of computer and network infrastructure.

The first survey was conducted on March 2005 and the latest one (14th) was conducted in March-April 2008.

ConclusionThe current responsibilities of the Monitoring and

Evaluation Department are:  • Participating in preparing the developmental plans and programs

associated with the institutional capacity building.• Setting the appropriate performance measures needed for monitoring

and evaluation of programs and projects.• Collecting, studying and analyzing data and information related to

the projects and programs.• Carrying out formative and summative evaluation studies of the

projects to help the company take the necessary changes during the implementation of these projects

• Preparing progress reports for projects • Setting up monitoring and evaluation plans for all the projects

undertaken by the company. • Working with the PMU in identifying and solving problems faced

the projects and complete them within the stipulated time

ConclusionContribute and support the JEI to engage with local

and international partners, and with the MOE for new learning programs

– Building capacity of the department– Deliver monitoring and evaluation products and

services that generate income to the JEI– Making sure that the organization is on track in

achieving its objectives and to review progress against objectives and adjust planning assumptions, priorities and strategies as needed
