Alice Hopkins of Loyola’s Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs recently wrote about Jim Hobbs (Online Services Coordinator): “Jim gave help and instruction on an Access database that seemed impossible to understand. Jim was illuminating and very kind. He has the patience of a saint and is such a good instructor.” (slightly edited)

Deborah Poole (Associate Dean for Public Services) participated in the webinar “Dress Your Data for Success! Data Visualization Strategies for Your Library” on April 29.

Susan Brower (Media Services Coordinator) will speak about clickers, Adobe Connect, videoconferencing and more on May 12, 10:00am-noon, in the library’s Multimedia Room 2.

Monroe Library Friend of the Month

Monroe Library News & Notes

The Monroe Library Friend of the Month is Luka Bahra, from New York City. Luka is a sophomore majoring in Spanish. Luka uses many library services, but mainly laptops and other electronic equipment provided to students for borrowing. (The library loans headphones, cameras, calculators, digital recorders, and much more to students.) Luka is happy with the library and doesn’t think it has much to improve on: “It’s a pretty good library!”

Our Mission

The Monroe Library is a catalyst for teaching and learning at Loyola University New Orleans. Students and faculty gather to engage in research and to exchange ideas in our classrooms and learning spaces. We educate and empower students to successfully navigate an information-rich world. We are dedicated to the development of our students as independent and critical thinkers.

We connect users with the resources they need and provide tools and support for the creation of new content by our students and faculty. We are active participants in scholarly communication. Our unique collections document and preserve the history of the university, the Society of Jesus, New Orleans, and the South, providing scholars with access to rich historical materials.

We collaborate with faculty to foster best practices in information literacy instruction, online course design, and the use of new technologies as partners in the advancement of teaching and learning. The library faculty and staff are open to new insights and the search for compelling ideas, guiding our community through the challenges and opportunities of the next century at Loyola.
