Rainfall Status of Tharparkar and
Umerkot Districts August 25, 2020
Monsoon rains have created disaster in district Tharparkar and Umerkot, especially in Thar two Taluka Diplo and Mithi and Taluka Umerkot and Kunri in Umerkot district. The rain was started from 23 August 2020 and has been remained continue till today 25 August 2020 (3pm). Deputy Commissioner Office of Tharparkar and Umerkot declared emergency in risky areas. In Umerkot, All principals and other teaching and non teaching staff has been directed to remain in their school and make necessary arrangement to rescue rain affected people and provide them residency in school premises. District authority along with NGOs made contingency plans to meet the emergency situation.

One camel died in Chelhar town Lightening damaged many trees in both districts Seven Goats died in Village Phararo of Diplo Tehsil One woman died in Village Batayinoon Soomra of Tehsil Diplo One boy Allah Bux Wassan died in Village Nohato of Tharparkar District One father and his son died due to sky lightening in Village Dhori of Mithi Tehsil Two goats died near the police station of Kaloi Two people have been injured in Tehsil Kaloi Many animals ( Goats, camel, and sheep) died in Tharparkar district One man died in Chachro Mavi D/O Kanji Kolhi (12 years old) died due to lightning in Village Deen Muhammad Talpur, tehsil Samaro of
Umerkot District
The following precautionary measures are suggested to community for their safety purpose;
Keep livestock in houses Cover vulnerable houses by any plastic or other safe material More Care for persons with different abilities and elders
Close coordination with line departments and Civil Society
organization
Take regular update from social media or other resources (Radio etc)
Coordinate with nearby communities in case of any emergency situation
Keep important contact numbers written on a paper, with themselves
Use local / technical methods to prevent from lightening strokes
Cover the stored crops with local methods / Tree’s raw material for
protecting from rain water Stop collecting the crops which is still as it in agricultural field till stop the series of rain spells, because
collected and stored crops / raw material will fully destroy by raining, the color of produced crops will be converted into back color and not will be useful
