Note:

The note from myself to all the Certified Trainer of MonsoonSIM in Thailand. MonsoonSIM is only one of the supporting tools ads

very first step to synchronize the Data vs Action in Business Processes and will be leverage as business descriptive, diagnostic,

predictive and prescriptive.

To utilize the supporting tools as powerful tool to start the 21st century world-requirement skill which be called ‘Data Analytics’.

CT are need to integrate Art and Science together. And make sure that we didn’t deliver the memory of pattern for interpretation of

data, but we do need to lets data to be a part of learning the cause and effect, and link with many theories in business and

management, and let’s the Learner to notice the pattern themselves. Due to the limitation in MonsoonSIM which able to provide the

fundamental understanding. CT will be the one who extend the learner vision, the study case of Business in reality, will be given the

sampling in each business/industry to learner. By the way, the business which vey dynamic; not only have one purposing; to lets the

learner to test and try multi-dimension of data by themselves will extend their experiential and become ‘Business Data Analyzer’ The

interpretation of data without the knowledge of social sciences will have no value like what we trying to step into Digital

Transformation., as same context of Data-lization also.

The data analytics is widening area. Technically Business Data Analytics are alike Combination of Art and Sciences. In this cases,

• Art is understanding what business Needs (Market& Customer, Process to fulfil the market’s demand with limitation of

resources to supply by business achievement which vary on many perspectives, factors, limitation which I have called

‘Dynamic Dimension of Art’ this part is very significant as same as level of Data Model which can describe what going on,

why it is significant, when, where and who we should applied or not applied that action.

• In the other hands, we are talking to Data which become more proof-able and we had call them as Data-science to make

them systematically (Colleting, Storing, Cleansing, Transforming, Enriching & Interpretation) which will be categorized in

many way in Many area like; IT infrastructure to provide colleting, Storing; in the world of Software which will try to enrich

the data to be come widen answer as pattern of data or specific answer in certain business questions.

When Art combine with Science it like 200 years ago, when the academic try to systematize the art and social school to become

‘Science’ by putting the law. Unfortunately, we have unfruitful result as Silo Learning and became Silo practical as normal like today

business. The sense of using cross data department;(Multi-Dimensional) are hardly to form “Entrepreneurial skills” by traditional

learning and teaching style. Please do not lets this happened again in our era.

In the Science perspective, we may need to found the sampling of the action , statistical and denoted them as data pattern. But

somehow when Data need to used to evaluate qualitative or hardly-human interact with situation. The data pattern seems to have

various model. That why as CT, do not start with model to remember. We should start with test and trial, error and achieve. Start

with ask more not tell them more.

My experience (MAR 2019): For Business and other student who are not keen on CODING. Tableau quite good but

limited free usage time, unless your can have academic version. Power BI Desktop seems to be good tools for free

usage. BTW any tools which student can learn more would be great. And Free description in YouTube are widely

founded. For student which understand coding, Google Cloud BI is an good Optional tool.

Where data was kept in MSIM?Recommended, When you download, may need to rename the file with date and type of data

The data in MonsoonSIM will able to group as 2 groups

• There are data in each business department related to their

▪ The data in each software will have different style/pattern when they has been stored in ‘Database’

▪ Master Data and type of data like Date, some Record will different based on limitation and condition of each software.

▪ when they would like to bring data from different record in different file type and style. Mostly me need to transform them as one Table; (Data Preparation to make then single source of truth)

▪ After that Data Modeling will be incurred (If needed)

▪ As USERs in Each virtual company will run their business and the game system will record those transaction and become Raw Data, Data, and Report in the game. The learner will able to export these data in many format; Some need to do data preparation process (In Raw Data level), Some data is ready as Unpivot type to apply with 3rd party BI

Since MSIM version 7.x (FEB 2019). The users able to pull the data in MonsoonSIM Game to use with 3rd party BI

software like Tableau, Power BI, Google Data Studio and etc.

In these software, the step of learning Data Analytics quite the same page, only some feature, terminology, menu

name and Dashboard quite different.

In the sample of this supporting presentation will be based on Power BI. BTW, CT able to use these platform or

others like QlikView, R, Python match you your designed curriculum and learner’s experiences.

The writer is not expertise in any Data Analytics area., If some content has mistake and mislead, I am do apologize.

The reason to choose this platform, cause of Desktop version is permanently free no expiry within certain time. and

Related tools like Excel will work with Power BI. And the methodology in these file, will use Power BI technique.

BTW, For other platform, mostly the process quite the same. CT and Learner able to choose the platform you are keen on

Steps after exporting the data from MonsoonSIM

1) Try to understand Data in activity, result layer from MonsoonSIM which will you export first. To Make sure that

you will ready to put/in lay/sync when many data has been scrummed together.

2) Set the Goals why you need to put these data to understand, describe, predict or prescribe them. Technically

can be call “Business Problems that you want to solve, to learn to prevent the risk, to utilize and to optimize

your administrate quality.

3) Export and rename the file name that learner understand. By putting into One folder to easier to ‘GET DATA’

4) Recheck the Data format and make sure that the data is ready to be used in Power BI as Processed Data;

Unpivot format, Correct Type of Data etc.. (This part can use Excel or using Query Data in Power BI)

5) Get Data into Power BI Processed and modelled (Note step 3 and 4 can be traditional way or use feature in

each software to processed data)

6) Visualize and Convey Data in appropriate format

In MonsoonSIM, some type of data need to be Cleaned, Transformed, Adjust to correct type of data. This is an opportunity to learn this step. BTW most of data already in readable format (Unpivot data) which easier to visualize them.

TIPs: Edit Data in Excel may help you to prepare data fasterOnce you have download data in CSV or excel format., If learner have an experience to clean, transform, change type or format or etc. may help you to prepare data faster. BTW, Edit Queries in Power BI also have this ability. You can choose to use excel or power queries base on your way.

What we can prepare data in Excel; ▪ Convert spread sheet to be Table Data by select all and Press CTRL+L or CTRL+T

▪ Change Table name, Column name

▪ Entering some Data which no have or create new column and put the related formula in

Some problem, may happen after you processed and cancel the previous action in Power BI., some error will happen.

BTW, they are more problems regarding to data base will you import into any BI software. For example▪ different style of locale which different in each software or

keyed in data; DD-MM-YYYY or MM-DD-YY, etc.

▪ Like Year in Buddhism year and Christianity year

▪ Data format like Entering name of Province; กทม., ก.ท.ม., กรงุเทพฯ, กรงุเทพมหานคร or Mobile number patter etc

▪ When have many data source, the column name will vary like ต าบล หรอื แขวง, เขต หรอื อ าเภอ

▪ Have special alphabet
