Michael and Joshua raised £167 by

baking and selling cakes. That could pay

for four children living on the streets in

Kenya to go to primary school for a whole

year. That’s what we call caketastic.

I want to go to school so I can get

a good job when I grow up and help

my parents.

I am eight years old and I live in Uganda. I love motorbikes,

helicopters and telling funny stories. I want to go to school but

my family can’t afford it. This is because my mother is disabled

and my father is sick.

I heard that children like you help

children like me by raising money

for Red Nose Day. I think that is

very nice of you.

I’m P hi lip

Thanks to money raised through Red Nose Day,

I can go to a before and after-school club. Now

my dad can go to work and earn enough money

to look after us.

I’m seven years old and I live in Gloucestershire.

My mum died when I was four. My dad had to look

after me and my brother and sister all by himself.

I’m Se lina

I get breakfast at the club and my

project worker, Rachel, takes me to

school and picks me up at the end

of the day. I play with my friends at

the club till my dad comes. I love it

and my dad is really happy we are

somewhere safe and fun.

Please do something funny for money this Red Nose Day and help other

children get the support they need. To meet other children like Selina

and Philip, visit rednoseday.com/monsterfun and go to the library.

Was this your rst trip to Africa?

MARK: It was my rst time in Tanzania. I

couldn’t believe how big and empty it was.

It is so different to London.

What did you think of the projects you visited?

MARK: The Mkombozi Centre for street

children project was fantastic. We had a

great game of cricket with the kids. And

we could really see what brilliant work the

project is doing to help them.

Who was the most interesting person you met?

SAM: Aloise who is fteen. He lived on the

streets for three years and now he makes a

bed for himself every night under the seatsin an old cinema. He goes to the Mkombozi

Centre to get medicine and help with school.

What other projects did you see?

MARK: We visited some schools and had a

good sing song. All the kids made cards for

us to take back to the UK.

How different is life in Tanzania for these

children compared to your childhood?

MARK: The kids there have nothing. We

took a football to a school and they were

so happy about something so small. It’s a

different world.

What would you say to people thinking

about fundraising this year?

MARK: Please, please do it. Red Nose Day

can help to make such a di fference.

Why do you think education is soimportant for these children?

SAM: It gives them a better future. If they

don’t go to school or don’t have family or

friends to look after them, they often end

up living on the streets.

Sam & Mark headed off to Tanzania in Africa to visit the Mkombozi

Centre for street children project. It is using money raised by kids like

you to help children nd somewhere to sleep and get an education.
