Administration took a radical turn during2009-2011, by carrying out a corrupt,illegal plan called Fast + Furious.

What was Fast + Furious? Simply put:ATF officials forced gun-shop owners tosell 100's of guns to straw purchaserswho "walked" the guns across the borderinto the hands of Mexican cartels.Incredibly, ATF agents were ordered tovideo-tape and illegally wiretap thesales, but could not arrest the straw pur-chasers or stop the gun flow into Mexico.

Two guns out of 2,500 had tracers andthe plan was carried out withoutMexico's knowledge. ( source- Fast andFurious by Katie Pavlich) Unfortunately,it took the death of border patrol agentBrian Terry and ICE agent Jamie Zapatato expose this horrific scheme.

Under testimony before the SenateJudiciary and House OversightCommittees, ATF Whistleblowers VinceCefalu,, Peter Forcelli, and John Dodsonhave detailed the goals and tactics of Fast+ Furious. Furthermore, the ATF, ICE,DEA. FBI, DOJ, DHS and WH officialswere all involved.

America, where is the outrage and themedia? Why has Eric Holder beenallowed to ignore subpoenaed F+F relat-ed e-mails for over a year? Finally, whatwas the purpose of Fast + Furious? Wasit to blame the gun-shop owners for vio-lence in Mexico? Speak up America, Fast+ Furious is too big to ignore.

War on womenDEAR EDITOR: The Republicans

have launched a war on women. They areon a rampage attacking women's healthand rights.

Republicans not only want to reducewomen's access to abortion care, they'reactuating trying to redefine rape. After amajor backlash, they promised to stop.But they haven't yet. Shocker.

A Republican state legislator in

Georgia wants to change the legal termfor victims of rape, stalking, and domes-tic violence to "accuser." But victims ofother less gendered crimes, like burglary,would remain "victims." In SouthDakota, Republicans proposed a bill thatcould make it legal to murder a doctorwho provides abortion care. (Yep, forreal.)

Republicans want to cut nearly a bil-lion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers,babies, and kids.

In Congress, Republicans have a billthat would let hospitals allow a womento die rather than perform an abortionnecessary to save her life.

Maryland Republicans ended allcounty money for a low-income kids'preschool program. Why? No need, theysaid. Women should really be home withthe kids, not out working.

And at the federal level, Republicanswant to cut that same program, HeadStart, by $1 billion. That means over200,000 kids could lose their spots inpreschool.

Two-thirds of the elderly poor arewomen, and Republicans are taking aimat them too. A spending bill would cutfunding for employment services, meals,and housing for senior citizens.

Congress voted for a Republicanamendment to cut all federal fundingfrom Planned Parenthood health centers,one of the most trusted providers of basichealth care and family planning in ourcountry.

And if that wasn't enough Republicansare pushing to eliminate all funds for theonly federal family planning program.(For humans. But Republican DanBurton has a bill to provide contracep-tion for wild horses. You can't make thisup.)

The Republicans strategy for fourdecades has been focused on creating afalse populist appeal to white swing vot-ers — who are mostly working class - -based on appeals to racism, religionsextremism, anti-immigration sentiment,anti-gay attitudes and other "cultural"issues. The current "war on women" isjust another one of the ugly locations to

which this strategy has taken them, asthey build their bridge to the 17Th centu-ry.

City CollegeDEAR EDITOR: It is up to the Santa

Barbara City College Board of Trusteesto put things in order before Dr. LoriGaskin takes over as President the first ofJuly. The budget for the next year will befinalized weeks from now by June 15th2012.

Thanks to the urging of interimPresident Dr. Jack Friedlander the sum-mer session was not Canceled.

Eliminating next summer session, a50% reduction of twelve vocational pro-grams and other class reductions are pos-sibilities.

A grassroots group of nonpartisan stu-dents and community members hope tokeep cuts as far from these programs andcore classes as possible.

The newer members of the board oftrustees that ran on a platform of trans-parency have failed to improve relation-ships between the community it servesand the college.

The college was placed on accredita-tion probation due to numerous viola-tions by several members.

We want the politics off the board andthe “community” put back in our com-munity college.

Montecito MessengerWhen Dr. Gary Shaw decided to

retire in 2011 after 35 years, TheMontecito Animal Hospital on CoastVillage Circle was bought by Dr. DaveDawson DVM.

With a growing number ofMontecito clients coming to his UpperState Street office in San Roque, Dr.Dave decided to add Montecito to hispractice. Dr. Dawson has been practic-ing veterinary medicine in the SantaBarbara area for the past 12 years. Priorto his graduation from Vet Med SchoolUC Davis in 2000, he and his wifeChristine began their search for theperfect place for them to live and work.

After spending a good amount oftime visiting, Dr. Dawson said “SantaBarbara had a great pet-loving commu-nity that was very apparent when walk-ing the beaches and neighborhoodstreets. We feel very fortunate to live ina place where so many people love

their pets as family members,” Dr.Dawson said.

The San Roque Pet Hospital andMontecito Pet Hospital are certified bythe American Animal HospitalAssociation (AAHA), a certificationonly 17 percent of hospitals in the U.S.have achieved .

Dr. Dawson has taken additionaltraining to be certified in CanineRehabilitation and opened theHydroPaws Animal Rehabilitation andPerformance Center in 2008 to allownot only post-operative and neurologi-cal patients to receive physical therapy,but also to give senior and geriatricpets a chance to build strength and flex-ibility in a more weightless environ-ment such as underwater.

Dr. Dawson also took on EmergencyVeterinary Services after CAREHospital closed its doors.

Dr. Dawson’s involvement in the petcommunity extends beyond his busi-nesses. He offers his time organizing a

Veterinary Clinic for Pets for theHomeless realizing that many pets donot get vaccinated or have any veteri-nary care. “We have a duty to protectthe public from transferable diseasessuch as Rabies virus in those pets wesee. Pets of the homeless are a definitegap on this protection unless we takeminimal care of them. Additionally,these pets often provide the only com-panionship and security these peopleknow.”

Dr. Dawson shares his time at bothlocations , but leaves the physical ther-apy to full-time physical therapistKaren Atlas. Clients from theMontecito Pet Hospital can also taketheir pets to San Roque Pet Hospitalduring later hours and on Saturdayfrom 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. since all recordsare accessible online.

Confess, are you the kid, hus-band, sister or mom that will stopby the grocery store on Mother’sday morning only to grab a cello-phane wrapped bouquet off thegrocery store shelf? Hmm, trustme, don’t do that. You can do bet-ter, it’s easy to do better, momwill appreciate it, and there’s thedouble bonus that you’ll lookreally good.

This doesn’t mean that youcan’t buy a grocery store bouquet; with alittle “jujuing” you can turn somethingsuper plain into something beautiful. First,take off the cellophane and cut the rubberband off.

Fluff the flowers out a bit, and simply tiea ribbon or twine around the bouquet. Youdon’t even need to tie a bow, just knot ittwice and let it hang like a sash. Everyonehas some ribbon or raffia lying around thehouse.

Another option is to take your kids to thefarmers market and let them pick out freshflowers for mom (and/or grandma, too). Youcan give them a mission to each pick outstems in mom’s favorite color— one canpick a bouquet of lilacs, the other a bunch ofpurple tulips, mix them together and momreceives a gorgeous, monochromatic, per-sonal bouquet from very proud kids.

If your mom doesn’t live in the sametown, there are some great online flowersources. Have the florist send her a box of

roses or flowers of your choice.Tell them hold the filler and justkeep it to one kind of flower. Thereis such a beautiful, old-fashionedglamour to a box of flowers deliv-ered to the doorstep. Chances areyour mom has just the right vase toput them in.
