From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Readers, Hello! Greetings!

Today we live in a world where the emphasis is on items or structures of power, business, glamour, fashion, competition and consumerism. The concerns of social virtues of civility, gentleness, fairplay, peace, justice, etc. take the back – burner. Think of the Dignitaries of Nations visiting one another being conducted around the nuclear installations, high powered military equipments like tanks, fighter planes, stealth bombers, nuclear submarines apart from business and industrial houses with a view to promote sales on a comprehensive basis. However one cannot deny that there is an underlying element of threat for the future that could affect the economically weak and dependent nations. On the other hand we wish it were possible that the Delegates and Heads of States be exposed to literary and cultural centers , art and craft , music and dance galleries, Museums of history, Monuments of National importance, structures considered as wonders of the world and Resources such that might cause a new initiative, a new way of thinking and a new attitude towards humanity and the empirical world. It could hold promises for the world of human beings ,flora and fauna, productive peace and hope for teaming millions of the poor in the world.

From the Principal’s Desk

The web magazine of Montfort, the first of its kind, is a small window that exposes out to its readers what we try to be and to do through the whole lot of learning opportunities and planned events. It refers to the entire gamut of challenges to involve, to interact and to develop habits of learning, cooperation and collaboration. Afterall collaborative learning efforts leave behind pleasant memories of not only what has been learnt but also glimpses of collaborative togetherness in learning i.e. the process and product both are rewarding, ushering in sustainable levels of self confidence leading to trust in oneself and in others. Further the Profile of a Montfortian requires of him or her to be conscious of the health and wellness through sports, games, yoga along with activities of fun and frolic. The said involvement goes a long way to promote quality of life, positive outlook and emotional strength to face trials of life gracefully and adroitly. I wish the Montfortians greater success and happiness in all their future endeavours. Bro. Emmanuel P.J. Principal

From the Vice - Principal’s Desk

Setting out to generate an e-magazine after a few years of educational services definitely points out to its ongoing development and academic venture. An e-magazine like this brings out the ideologies, ethos, values and philosophy of the institution on which the students have been mended to become responsible citizens to head a just and harmonious society. I am delighted to know Montfort Mandla is bringing out its first e-magazine, another academic achievement giving opportunity to its students to express their multidimensional talents. I congratulate and appreciate the people responsible for this academically meritorious work. I am sure it not only enables the students and staff to present literary outputs but also instill in them a deep impression of their learning, ideas, thoughts, value and philosophy. I am also happy and proud once again Montfort Mandla, a pioneer in CBSE English Medium education has risen above a banner day to inspire and challenge the students and the readers through this literary effort. Long Live Montfort – God bless you all ! Bro Chacko Azhaketh Vice Principal

Do you know which is the curious place?

It is universe or commonly known as space.

There are billions of stars along with sun.

Mercury is the hottest and has no air,

That’s why human’s cannot go there.

Venus is known as the morning star,

But from Earth it is little far.

Only Earth is the planet which has water,

Where some creatures are tall, some are shorter.

After Earth comes Mars,

However it has ice lumps.

Jupiter has 63 moons,

Which has cold nights and hot noons.

After that comes beautiful Saturn,

Which has several rings forming patterns.

Uranaus moons are in number twenty seven,

It is a giant ball of gas but looks like heaven.

Neptune is the farthest from sun,

I think it weighs more than a tonne.

We see asteroids in lines,

Solar system comes under science

Solar energy comes from Sun,

Without it nothing can be done.

I know a silent girl

Whozz z as precious as a girl

Shezzz beautiful as twilight

She has dreams like kite

She is pretty as moon

but her temper is like noon

her eyes are dark brown

and wears as a silence crown

No one understands her

Neither the greatest scientists nor philosophers

I still remember the day we met

It was a shining morning and we had a bet

We both were feeling ashamed a bit

Becoz neither of us won it

then we burst into laughing

and I felt our hearts singing

From then we became good friends and our friendship has no end……

The dream I see every night, that one day I’ll be proud of my life…. I hope that dawn will come, A motherland with no fights…. No poverty, no discrimination, And everyone will get equal rights…. Motherland should rise like one, And spread the dignity of light…. A land which treat girls with respect, And people have good sight…. Their will be end of all sacrifices, We will touch all the heights…. Whole country will unite, And we will fly like a single kite….

Politics and politics everywhere, What happens to us, no-one cares! Many points are raised, and many parties are chased but still many places are left, where poverty is at its dept! All the Politicians have the work to divide, And one terrorist attack make the country unite! India is known for unity, But after political competitions something left is only diversity. People think that social welfare means politics, But nothing like this is written in any ethics! Come let us make our India again unite, For the sake of youth and to make their future bright; Lets lessen up this politics To save our India from critics. And now by this technique We will make our India unique!

Science is here, Science is there; Science is everywhere!!!!! Try to identify the above scientists with the help of their wonderful inventions. How much did you score??? Have you ever fell Science around us? Of course. But who were the first to experience or feel Science? These were the Scientists and Inventors. Think if there would be no discovery of “Gravity”. What would happen if every homo (human being) had same “DNA coding”? Everything would be weird…….So we are very thankful to the Scientists. Let’s know about some of the Scientists and their contributions in the field of Biology, Chemistry and Physics respectively.

Robert Hooke, in1665 discovered and named the “Cells” with his self made microscope.

Charles Darwin, in 19th century gave the theory of “Origin of Living Species”. He told that, all species has descended from common ancestors.

James D Watson, along with Francis Crick gave us the knowledge of the “Double Helix DNA Model”

J J Thomson, in 1903 proposed the first model of the atom. It is compared with ‘water melon’ and ‘Christmas pudding’.

Neil Bohr gave the present concept of structure of atom with ‘fixed orbits’.

Lord Kelvin contributed in Thermodynamics by giving a unit of temperature, “Kelvin (K)”, which is equal to the sum of 273 and temperature on Celsius scale.

Johannes Kepler gave three laws to describe the motion of Planets around the Sun. These are called “Laws of Planetary Motion”.

Isaac Newton gave the theory of “Gravity” (Gravitational force) and also gave three “Laws of Motion”.

Oersted, in 1820 discovered the “Magnetic Effect of Current” through a compass needle deflection.

Now we can say that, Scientists inspire us to develop our ‘Scientific temper’…..

Chemistry in Everyday Life Mr. Meetesh Tiwari

By now, you might have realized how deeply chemistry has entered into our daily life. Right from the moment we get up in the morning until late in the night when we go to bed, we find ourselves associated with hundreds of things which are either chemical in nature themselves or have their origin in chemistry. Thus the proverb, “Chemistry is not for chemists alone” is true in its absolute terms. It has helped in overcoming a large numbers of problems faced by the mankind in recent-past, in the field of food, shelter and disease. today chemistry has helped us in creating materials with desired properties/it would be hard indeed to name a single article in use in which chemistry has not played an important role. Some of the uses of chemistry in daily life are as follow:- Chemicals in food:- we know that many ingredients are added to food. these ingredients include flavouring agents, sweetness, colouring agent, antioxidants & preservations. Chemicals in medicines:- besides above chemistry have also play a vital role in different field, in this article we will discuss about the some uses of chemical in food. Chemical food preservation:-food we can also be preserved by using some chemical. substances which can kill the food spoiling micro-organisms. …..continued on next page

Chemistry in Everyday Life

1:- Sodium benzoate (C6H5COONA) is used to preserve fruit juices & squash. it is metabolized by conversion to hippuric acid (C6H6CONHCH2COOH),which is ultimately excreted out in the urine. 2:- Potassium metabisulphite(K2S2O5) is used for preserving the colourless fruits like apple, mango, chutney and lemon squashes. Besides these the following chemicals are also ate as food. 1. Vinegar (CH3COOH) 2. Sugar (C12H22O11) 3. Salt (NACL) 4. Citric acid (C6H8O7) 5. Spices Artificial Sweetening Agents:- Certain organic compound which have been synthesized in laboratories are known to be many times sweeter than cawsugar. Such compounds are called artificial sweetening agents or artificial sweetness. some commonly used artificial sweetness are :- SACCHARAIN DULCIN SODIUM CYCLAMATE Besides these some other sweetness are ASPARTAME, ALITAME & SUCRALOSE. Now we can say that chemistry have play a vital role in food as well as the other daily life uses. we can not imagine our life without chemistry.

Future Bionics – The Future of Human Design MR.EMMANUEL ROBIN

The Evolution of Homosapiens have been the most remarkable event in the history of the universe. It was marked by the upcoming of a type of species who will rule the world and were inculcated with the innate ability to change the world through their intelligence, knowledge and experiences. What makes Human beings more superior and powerful than the other species of the world is their mind power and capacity to learn from their experiences and apply it for their future to change their future. Science and religion have their own theories and beliefs regarding the origin of this mightiest species that dominate the world. Scientific theories have brought evidences that the body design of organisms are always subjected to variations that even support them to adapt themselves to the changing environmental conditions on the earth. This fact enables us to understand that millions of years back we were not the same as we appear today. There is no contradiction to the fact that that our body design will certainly undergo the changes in the coming future but a new difference has arisen that now the changes in the body design will be influenced by the human interventions and will be decided as per their needs. …..continued on next page

Future Bionics – The Future of Human Design

FUTURE BIONICS is a new step in this concept yet it may be a new term for some of us yet scientists around the world are quite sure of its success. FUTURE BIONICS is a branch of the inventions that actually does not develop a ROBOT or a CYBORG but a combination of artificial systems of the human body developed and modified in the laboratory with the usage of human designed materials like composites, ceramics and polymers which are further installed in the human body. About 1$million dollar bionic is already at a display at the London science museum.

Future Bionics – The Future of Human Design

Here is a small outlook on the materials to be used to develop the various body organs. Arteries and Trachea- They are developed using the Nano composite polymers implanted musing the human stem cells. Blood- It will include a paste of plastic molecules suspended in water with the function similar to human beings. Heart- Battery powered ,self contained total replacement system made using Nano composites. Lungs-Portable blood/ air mass exchange which can remove CO2 and O2 from a hollow fiber. Eyes- It will include external video camera that sends the images by processor and transmits wirelessly to the eye where the electrodes placed directly into the retina will develop signal in optic nerve. In short the entire organs of the Human body will be replaced by artificially developed systems in the lab that will definitely increase the human efficiency to think, view and overcome diseases and will give new direction to the Humankind. This will only be the beginning of redefining the Human evolution but the biggest change will certainly take place in the existence of the human values, emotions and the existence of morality. Probably we will encounter new forms of diseases that may not be borne due to natural Bacteria or Viruses but due to a technical decoding or software borne virus. However Human interference in this natural process of evolution will certainly turn humans into a Bollywood or a Hollywood superhero which still is an imaginative science fiction. The things that will still remain unanswered will be again the same that “WHO ARE WE”? “WHAT IS OUR FUTURE” ? “WHERE ARE WE GOING”? So get ready to have a new human design of a super hero that will increase your efficiency.

Greater The Wisdom - Sr. Rose Mathew

The forest of Gir Green was in great jubilation. At its heart , on the plane in front of the royal cave of the lion king Girza, all the animals of the forest gathered to facilitate the lion prince Girgir on his return after his doctoral studies abroad. He has secured a doctorate in forest governance from the university of forest science. Every guest was ushered into their respective praises by the special attendants appointed by the event management team of Moni monkey. The function began with a splendid prayer dance presented by a group of gorgeous peacock. The horse , philosopher of Gir green forest. Horse was invited to give the welcome address. When I was in Amazon …….” Horse started off in his typical vain glorious tone and carried on with many more of such bravado, namely “When I was in the Alps……. When I visited the Kerala forest……”Madhya Pradesh forest…… Meghalaya forest……..” The Prince Girjir was losing his patience and getting irritated. “ What is this fool, up to, talking all about himself? whispered the prince in king’s ears. Taking out a paper currency and a coin of the forest, the lion king asked his son, “ Which is of greater value the paper money or the coin? Of course, the paper money, replied the prince” you know my son , it is coins that elang and make noise, but paper money is silent.

Greater the value of a person lesson he speaks of himself/ herself.

Science – A fascinating Element of our Existence - Sr. Rose Mathew

We live in the world of science. Science has manifested the mysteries of nature in various forms, and enabled us to understand our past, present and future. Understanding of how things work and why and the various answer. Science gave us so far allowed us to survive, ensure our survival, and improve our life style in the process, starting from billions of years ago, all the way up to the present day. Science is introduced in our lives at an early stage through our education. We learn a basic set of skills that we expand with specific knowledge in a certain direction at a later stage, but we never really appreciate just how important science is in all this equation. Education in our first encounter with science in its various forms. So its crucial to get it right. Today we are closer than ever to solving some of science’s biggest mysteries. We have the technology to stimulate important events in the past, such as big bang, and we have technology to fly in to space. We have nations working together. For the greater good and we have a 500 ton man made object- the international space station orbiting into space- we have the means, the technology and the will to take things further, and that’s exactly what we are doing. There have been innumerable invention, one of the greatest invention of medicines. …..continued on next page

Fill Up Your Gas Tank With Bamboo Ms. Gunjan Chourasia

2014 was declared as the year for automotive fuel from the nonfuel crops. However producing this eco –friendly cellulosic ethanol remain expensive than the gasoline. So researchers are trying to cut down the cost. Now they have discovered a microbe that can utilize abundant Nitrogen gas as the fertilizers. This discovery is a major commercial accomplished for bio-fuel. The majority of biofuels are derived from crops like corn; it can also lead to increase of food prices. So, in recent years, they have started using non food crops like Trees and plants for biofuels production. These crops need fewer fertilizers than the traditional biofuel crops, biofuels would be produced only from plants materials that cannot be eaten such as trees and parts of the plants i.e straw. But there is one of the major problem in this process i.e. enzymes needed to break down cellulose and hemicelluloses into simpler sugar are expensive process. New studies on this issue offer a solution to this problem. They started using Bamboo trees that quickly grow in many places and instead of using yeast to ferment this plant into fuel ,they started using Zymonoas mobilis a bacterium which is also capable of doing the job. This bacteria need high level of nitrogen to survive.

Fill Up Your Gas Tank With Bamboo

So the researchers just compared the amount of ethanol produced with the amount of ethanol produced with and without nitrogen as fertilizers. This shows that microbes has an usual ability to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere. This study is published in the “Proceeding of the National academy of science” they also showed that bacterium produces ethanol more quickly and uses more of the plant material when it uses nitrogen gas as fertilizers. If the same hold true ,it can reduce the biofuels production cost. This process is more environmental friendly. In near future more and more studies will be conducted on this field in order to meet the demand of the people and maintain the energy requirement of the world.
