On behalf of the Respondents, this Semiannual Progress Report summarizes activities at theChemical Commodities, Inc. Superfund Site from September 2001 through February 2002,pursuant to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrative Order onConsent (AOC) under Section 106(a) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response,Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (EPA Docket No. CERCLA-7-99-0001). Description of Work Performed or Scheduled

• Pursuant to Section VII. 14. A of the Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) and the approved Removal Action Work Plan,groundwater from the interceptor trench was pumped, treated, and disposed of from November 26 to 29, 2001 and December5 to 6, 2001 . Groundwater pumped from the trench was treated by two granular activated carbon (GAC) units temporarily set up atthe site, and disposed via the permitted sanitary sewer connection at the site. A total of 40,047 gallons were treated and disposedof via the sanitary sewer. All discharge permit requirements were met.

• The two GAC units were temporarily stored outside on the north side of the on-site warehouse. The GAC units were transportedfor off-site disposal on February 25, 2002. Other equipment was rinsed and placed in the on-site storage container until the nextdewatering event.

• None.

• None.

• Laboratory analytical results for one effluent sample (collected on December 7, 2001) are included as Attachment A. Noorganic compounds (VOCs) were detected above the limits specified in the discharge permit or above the reporting limits.

Copies of the inspection reports for September 2001 through February 2002 are included as Attachment B.
