Essay Contest In honor of the Month of the Military Child, 90th FSS invites youth in grades K-12 to par-ticipate in a writing contest! Tell us about “Your Life as a Military Child” in 150 words or less. Categories are grades 9-12, 6-8, 3-5, and K-2*. Drop off your entries at either the Youth Center or Fall Hall Community Center. Please be sure your entry includes your name, grade, your parent(s) name/rank/phone number. Illustra-tions are highly encouraged! Winners will be announced at the Month of the Military Child Bash at Fall Hall Com-munity Center on April 25. Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries in each category.

Art Auction Child and Youth Pro-grams would like to invite everyone to participate in their first annual Silent Art Auction to be held April 29, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Child Development Center. Various art projects completed by our own aspiring Van Gohs and Pic-

cassos will be on display and available for “purchase” through the auction. Payment will be in the form of canned goods with all proceeds going to the 1st Sergeants’ Food Pantry. Youth ProgramsApril 8, 15, 22 and 29, Babysit-

ting Certification Class 6 - 8 p.m. The course contains 4 sessions at 2 hours each; participants will learn about child development, safety, discipline, entertaining the children, as well as be CPR/First Aid certified. After satisfactory completion of the program the participant will be listed on a referral list for the base. The course is offered to youth 13 and older at 6205 Randall Ave, Bldg. 234. Cost for participants is $65, includes CPR/FA certification and cards as well as snacks.

School Age ProgramSchool Age Program has open-

ings for Before and After School care. Schools that bus to the Youth Center include Freedom, Demming/Miller, Afflerbach, Henderson, Alta Vista and Pioneer Park. Fees for the program are based on total family income.

Month of the Military Child Bash at Fall Hall. Come join our Keystone Club, led by our President Wyoming’s Military Youth of the Year, in setting up, operating, and volunteering at this event. Afterwards we will be heading back to the Teen Center for our an-nual Operation Megaphone Lock-In.

April 25, Operation Megaphone Lock-In Teen Center from, 8 p.m. - 7 a.m. Join us in a worldwide teen only lock-in where we will be compet-ing against other installations around the world to earn points and prizes. Admission is $5 for members/$10 for non-members.

April 12, Men’s Self Defense Class 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Men, now it’s your turn! After great success with our Family Self Defense class and our Women’s Self Defense class, we are hosting our first ever Men’s Self Defense Class. Come on out to Freedom Hall to learn basic and effec-tive self-defense. You will be learn-ing techniques to improve situational awareness, ground survival, weapons defense and much more. Course will be taught by Master Phillip Dobkins. Master Dobkins has more than 20 years of marital arts experience and is a certified instructor of the Combat Hapikio System and a master certi-fied institutor in the American Free-style Karate System. Bring a snack to munch on during breaks. Please note this is not an MMA course. Sign up at Freedom Hall Front Desk by April 11.

April 16, Quarterly Bench Press Competition 5 p.m. Us-ing the Schwartz/Malone calculation everyone, regardless of their weight or size, stands an equal chance of winning. Sign-ups will be taken until 5 p.m. the day of the event. Partici-pants must be 16 and older and may be dependents, active duty, reserve, guard or civil servants. 1st place male and female will receive t-shirt and their picture on the wall.

April 19, Quarterly 3 on 3 Bas-ketball Tournament 10 a.m. Teams may consist of up to 4 players with 3 playing at one time. Tournament is single elimination. Sign up deadline is April 18, 4:30 p.m. Participants must be 16 and older and may be depen-dents, active duty, reserve, guard or civil servants. 1st place team will receive AFFES gift cards.

April 26th, Family Competi-tion 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Do you want to have a fun and exciting time with your children while being physically active? Then your Fitness Center has the event for you! Par-ents and children will work together to complete physical activities in a safe and enriching environment. Child participants must be between the ages of 6 - 12. Events will be broken up based on the age of the child and parents will have an active role dur-ing the activities so makes sure you come dressed to play. Prizes will be awarded.

March 31 - April 4, BRAT Camp 1 - 5 p.m. Get you kids out of the house this Spring Break while they experience high outdoor adventure. Activities will include rock climbing, archery, fishing, hiking, biking and other seasonal activities (weather permitting). Fee is $80 and includes all equipment, transportation and gear for the week-long camp. Children must be age 8 or older. Drop by Outdoor Recreation for a schedule of activities.

April 4 - 6, Steamboat Ski Weekend We will depart Out-door Recreation at 4 p.m Friday for Steamboat and return about 6 p.m. on Sunday. Fee is $80 per person for cabin style lodging (you may be on a cot) and includes transportation and your ski or snowboard rental. Lift Tickets for Military ID Card holders are FREE this weekend. You will be responsible for your own food.

April 12, Dog Sledding Winter Park, CO (Single Airmen) During the ride, all passengers remain in the sled as the experienced musher ex-pertly guides the sled down the trail. Along the way, the guide will point out any wildlife tracks (or actual wild-life such as moose and coyotes), take pictures for the guests and answer any questions about dogsledding or local history, attractions and activi-ties.

The trip covers about four or five miles in about 45 minutes. The trails are situated on private property and we cannot allow guests to walk or ski on the trails. See some amaz-ing views along the way including 13 thousand foot peaks, the Continental Divide, Winter Park Ski Resort, and of course lots of snow and dog butts. We will depart Outdoor Recreation at 7 a.m. and return about 7 p.m. Fee is $30 and includes transportation, gear and sled ride. We will explore Winter Park so bring spending money. This trip is limited to 12 single airmen and will open to the public April 8.

April 13, New Belgium Brew-ery Tour Join us for a 90 minute tour and plenty of beer sampling at New Belgium Brewery. We will Depart Outdoor Recreation at 12:45 p.m. for the 2 p.m tour. We will return about 6 p.m. Bring money for food. The $10 fee includes transportation and tour.

April 18, Tandem Sky Div-ing Trip (Single Airmen) Conquer Fear - Make a Skydive! Go along for a jump on a Mile-Hi tandem skydive, the quickest and easiest way to get

in the sky! Our fleet of twin engine jet-prop aircraft will elevate you to jump altitude faster than anyone else in the state! Then jump together with your nationally licensed tandem instructor from up to 18000’ above sea level as you freefall at 130 mph. After that intense thrill, you slow down to a quiet, serene ride, flying your parachute, soaring like a glider to landing. With the tandem skydiv-ing pilot-passenger freefall system, you can make your first skydive in greater ease and safety than ever before. Your parachute, especially built for two, will carry you and your instructor to a soft landing. Time is TBD. This trip is limited to the first 6 single airmen. It will open to the public April 15. Fee is $40 and includes trans-portation, equipment and your sky dive.

April 19, Family Mountain Bike and BBQ at Curt Gowdy Join us for some great mountain biking! This area is perfect for beginners, children and the extreme mountain cyclist! $15 includes transportation and burg-ers! If you don’t have a bike, they are available for rent at Outdoor Rec-reation. We will depart at 9 a.m. and return about 3 p.m.

April 19, Chicks with Guns – NRA Basic Pistol Course Students will get the NRA’s The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook and intensive les-sons in safety, gun handling, the vari-ous types of pistols, the fundamen-tals of pistol marksmanship, various pistol firing positions, several prac-tical exercises on the firing range, cleaning, storage, and a summary of pistol sports and activities. Partici-pants must provide own hand gun. Cost is $75 and includes transporta-tion and class. You will be responsible for your own ammunition (at least 50 rounds). This is recognized by the state of Wyoming for concealed carry permits.

April 26, Sombrero Stables Horseback Ride (Single Airmen)

Join us for a beautiful 2 hour trail ride in the Rocky Mountains! Along the trail you’ll enjoy views of the sur-rounding mountains, some frosted with snow even in July, thickly forest-ed areas, pristine mountain streams and Estes Park’s lake below. You may also see wildlife, including coyotes, elk, deer, and longhorn cattle, and “Bob” the bobcat that graze on the ranch. Depart Outdoor Recreation at 8am and return about 4 p.m. Fee is $30 and includes transportation, trail ride and gear. Bring money for food. We will stop for lunch in downtown historic Estes Park for lunch and an ice cream at the candy shop.

April 22 - 26, Arts and Crafts Open House Join us for a week of activities, demonstrations and re-freshments. Bring or purchase a 5x7 frame and get a decorative monogram initial and mat for free. Most of all come see all the fun cre-ative things that go on at the Arts and Crafts Center.

April 16 and 30 Italian Buffet/Pasta Toss(Pasta mista saltata in padella) Step 1: Take a bowl to the salad bar and pick out the items you would want in your pasta. Step 2: Give the bowl to cook and they will give you a number. Once they call your #.... Step 3: Pick the pasta and the sauce and they will toss it all together and voila'! Your pasta is ready or pronto as we say in Italy!
