Usually there is little to report during the summer holidays, but a lot has accumulated:

More tragic deaths after Gluteal Fat InjectionUnfortunately there were again two deaths after gluteal fat augmentation, this time in Germany within one year by the same internist. Together with the German Aesthetic Society (VDAEPC) we urged the ministry to act in an open letter. Here we again pointed out the importance of in-depth plastic surgery training and further education and the increased risks of these operations.

Together with our American colleagues from ASAPS and ASPS as well as IFATS and ISPRES, we have decided on further training modules which will soon be available online. We will also report on our

joint findings from the autopsies that our task force was allowed to collect.

It should be noted in advance that the fat must only be applied subcutaneously and that larger cannula should be used.

We are especially pleased that the Atlanta Oculoplastic Symposium, which has been well known and highly esteemed for over 20 years and organized by the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (SESPRS) can now be co-organized by us. This high-end meeting is a must for everyone who wants to stay up to date in the

field of periorbital surgery. This time we have added the latest developments in facelift surgery as an additional component. Here, we will focus in particular on difficult necks

Oculoplastic Symposium in Atlanta now together with ISAPS

Lawsuits against breast implant manufacturerSome 1,000 women in South Korea who had breast enlargement with textured breast implants made by Allergan will file a class action lawsuit against the company because of facing the risk of getting this rare lymphoma.

Last week other affected patients filed lawsuits against Allergan in the USA and United Kingdom.

It remains to be seen that there is no recommendation to prophylactically remove textured breast implants.

BIA-ALCL lymphoma is extremely rare and can be treated very well by capsulectomy in early stages.

As plastic surgeons, we should adhere to these official recommendations and educate our patients and take symptoms such as unilateral swelling and pain seriously.

Q: How did your passion for plastic surgery develop? Campiglio I have been fascinated by the possibility to repair things since my childhood. Every time one of my toys broke I tried to do my best to repair it. Sometimes also with funny results. This passion easily moved from things to persons during my medical studies. Immediately after my graduation I entered the Post Graduate School of Plastic Surgery in Milan where I got my PhD in stem cells in 2004. At that time I was impressed by how perfect the human body is and how it can heal if properly assisted and guided.

Q: What has been the highlight of your career as a plastic surgeon?Campiglio: I always loved to think as Plastic Surgery as a medal with two faces: one reconstructive and one aesthetic. You can be a good aesthetic surgeon only if you had a strong reconstructive training and you can do a high level of reconstruction only if you have an aesthetic touch.

Q: How did you first become involved with ISAPS?Campiglio: I have been involved with ISAPS since 2004. I realized the great opportunities for my profession to join such a prestigious international society. In particular I have been impressed by its great educational program and by the possibility to exchange point of views with colleagues coming from so many different countries. I understood soon that the challenges in our specialty are the same, it does not matter where you practice.

Q: Which upcoming ISAPS event are you most looking forward to?Campiglio: The ISAPS event in 2019 that I look forward to attend is the first resident and young fellows ISAPS Symposium to be held in Bruges on October 17 during the biennal meeting of the European Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Societies (EASAPS). I share the vision of our current President, Dr. Richter, that young generations of plastic surgeons are the main resource for our specialty and that we have to invest in them scientifically.

Q: As Second Vice President, what do you hope to achieve for ISAPS and its members?Campiglio: My target is to contribute to re-enforce the leadership of ISAPS in education. For this achievement I count on the energy of the younger generations and on the great experience of the more experienced members. As the poet says, genius is wisdom and youth!

Q: hat is one unexpected hobby or passion that you share?Campiglio: I love martial arts and fighting sports since I was a teenager. I practiced many of them including Aikido and Tai Chi Chuan but the one that I preferred was Savate, developed in France and Italy at the end of the eighteenth century. It is a form of boxing where you fight with punches and feet, but it is different from other disciplines as hits with knees and elbows are forbidden. I am a silver glove, which is like black belt in the oriental disciplines, and I also taught for many years.

ISAPS WORLD CONGRESS

Durchhäuser, literally translated to mean ‘through-houses,’ are a distinctive architectural feature of Vienna’s old town.
