International accreditationfor the Diploma in

Islamic BankingEIBFS efforts for enhancing the quality of its

educational programs materialized in attaining full accreditationof the Islamic Banking Diploma (IBD) from the prestigious

Financial Accreditation Agency (FAA) in Malaysia,on Dec, 29th, 2014. FAA is an international organization

well known in the area of quality assurance in Islamicfinancial education.

The Diploma in Islamic Banking program offered byEIBFS is accredited by the UAE Commission forAcademic Accreditation (CAA), the Ministry of HigherEducation and Scientifc Research (MOHESR). Thisaccreditation was renewed via the MinisterialDecision No. (275) for the year 2014 issued by H.H.Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubbarak Al Nahyan, Minister ofHigher Education and Scienti�c Reseach, following aCAA report. The Diploma in Islamic Banking programis the �rst pogram in Islamic Banking accredited bythe FAA.

The Diploma in Islamic Banking program isthe �rst of its kind in the egion and it started in 2003to disseminate knowledge and information aboutIslamic Banking and Finance and produce quali�edpersonnel with knowledge and expertise in IslamicBanking products and operations who can meet therequirements of the fast growing Islamic Bankingindustry. The program is designed in line with theinternational standards of similar programs offered byprestigious institutions, and is constantly beingreviewed and developed to meet the industrydynamics.

The program is a combination of core Islamiccourses and general education courses thatcomprise 60 credit hours, and runs ?vedays a week, morning and evening sessions forduration of two years. The program provides athorough theoretical and practical knowledge ofIslamic �nance, principles and operations, and aimsto equip graduates with the ability to run IslamicBanking operations, develop innovative products andprovide solutions for the challenges faced by�nancial institutions. Intenational Accreditationenhances the value of EIBFS educational programsand increases the ability of EIBFS academicprograms to compete in the higher education market.In addition to their specialization in the banking and�nance aeas, the Diploma in Islamic Bankingprogram was developed to satisfy a felt need forIslamic banking studies after the great expansion inIslamic banking, internationally, regionally and locally.Islamic banks and international money markets havecontributed widely in supporting national economiesat all levels and became a landmark for a prosperousfuture.

The FAA, which accredited the Diploma in IslamicBanking program, also granted EIBFS the status of aregistered training provider RTP in the year 2014. It isalso worth mentioning that FAA is an internationalreputable organization which is supported bythe Central Bank of Malaysia.

The graduates from the Diploma in Islamic Banking

program since 2003/2004 have reached more than500, male and female, andwho are currently employed in various positions inbanking and �nancial institutions. At the pesent timethere are more than 45 male and female studentsstudying in the program in the Sharjah campus.Opportunities for employment, as well asopportunities for continuing study at the B.Sc. levelare open for those graduates who wish to join theB.Sc. program in banking and �nancial studies in theInstitute. The B.Sc. program and the Diploma inBanking are also accredited by the CAA.

Training Programs EIBFS gives high priority forquality in all its educational and training programs.The Institute continuously works towards upgradingthe level of those programs to cope with the newdevelopments in knowledge and technology. The 2015Annual Training Plan

The Emirates Institute for Banking & Financial Studiesis UAE's most preferred training partner for the Banks,

Financial Institutions, Insurance, and Exchange houses.Since 1983, EIBFS has partnered with all banks

in UAE and provided customized training solutionsto most of the Banks. EIBFS is also a very active

member among the World Banking Training institutes,and have formal and informal o-operations with many

international banking institutes includingIFS, ICB, and HKIB, ICA, CISI etc.

EIBFS announced the details of the annual trainingplan for 2015 which includes a number ofdistinguishing features, including new programs, andtotal of 535 programs representing a9.2% increase compared to 2014. The plan istargeting about 15 thousand participants.

Focusing on meeting the needs of the banking

sector and improving its performance

The plan for 2015 was designed on the basis of theactual training needs for the Banking Sector whichwere studied jointly with HR managers via 30 visitsand 31 questionnaires. The plan aims at improvingthe performance of the banks employees.'

A Comprehensive Coverage

The Institute through its 3 branches in Sharjah, AbuDhabi and Dubai offers a comprehensivegeographical coverage for all the important locationsof banks sector activities. 186 programs will beoffered in Dubai branch, representing 35% of thetotal number of 2015 plan. 149 programs will beoffered in Abu Dhabi branch, representing 28% of thetotal number of 2015 programs, and 154 programswill be presented in Sharjah, representing 29% of thetotal number of programs. The remaining 8% will beoffered in Fujeirah, Al-Ain and Ras Al Khaimah. Thesigni�cance of 2015 pograms, is that they willcontribute to the preparation of quali�ed bankingcaders, avail to the bankers the opportunity for

continuous training and upgrade their skills, tomaintain the highest standards in serving theknowledge economy. The programs cover all bankoperations and directed to all levels in the bankingsector.

They include professional specialized certi�cates, inthe banking and �nance secto. The programs will bebased on a mix between theory and practice, toguarantee the needed skills in the human resourcesemployed by the banking sector, in order to play itsrole in serving the national economy. EIBFS fostersinnovation and this is re�ected in the 2015 planwhich do not only focus on meeting training needsbut goes beyond that to offer new technologies. Thedesign of the programs takes into consideration thetargeted levels. The nominations from the banks �tinto those levels to achieve the maximum bene�tfrom the programs offered in the plan. She alsoadded, we in EIBFS, hope that the priority fortraining will be given to UAE nationals. Employeeswill not be accepted in advanced programs unlessthey complete the basic and intermediary programs,so that at the end, the nominee will complete all thelevels in his area of specialty, and improve hisperformance.

A Qualitative Leap

EIBFS is witnessing a qualitative leap in training andeducation focusing on the quality of training andoffering new programs during 2015. In the area ofeducation at the B.Sc. Level, EIBFS has signed astrategic partnership agreement with BangorUniversity in UK; according to this agreement,students can proceed to complete the �nal year oftheir study in UK, and obtain their graduatingcerti�cate fom the University. Similarly, in the area ofIslamic Banking Diploma, EIBFS signed twoagreements with Binary University and the IslamicBank, to enhance the quality of EIBFS products inthe areas of education and training.Efforts are also exerted to get an externalaccreditation for EIBFS educational programs overand above the internal accreditation, we already havefrom the Commission for Academic Accreditation inthe Ministry of Higher Education and Scienti�cResearch. The institute is putting the �nal touches totransfer training hours to academic patches, Addingalso new programs, including new professionalcerti�cates.

The Methodology of Preparing the Plan

With regard to the methodology of preparing the2015 plan, this was a result of evaluating previoustraining plans, following the scienti?c methods incollecting the data from various sources, using thesurvey method, statistical analysis and evaluation oflast year programs and accompanying services, inorder to make the plan aligned with the needs of thebanking sector and of more relevance to theiremployees. Steps followed include:

1- The establishment of an internal technicalcommittee to study the training needs and to preparethe plan.2- The Design of a Questionnaire and distributing it tothe banks in June, 2014, as a tool for data collection.3- Field visits to 30 banks in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah andDubai, meetings with the banks training managersand HR managers. The total number of employees inthose banks amounts to 84% of the total number ofthe banking sector’s employees.4- A comparative study of training plans of similarinstitutes within the state and abroad (GCC andInternational)5- Evaluation results of training programs andtrainers observations about 2014 training programs.6- Results of the questionnaire that was designedand distributed to all banks in June, 2014 for datacollection and suggestions related to the trainingneeds.7- Faculty observations and suggestions, during thetrainers committee meeting in June, 2014.8- The enlarged meeting with the HR and trainingdepartments in the banking sector to discuss the?nal draft of the plan on Tuesday 14/10/2014 inDubai branch, following the analysis ofquestionnaires, and visits to the banks.9- The advisory technical committee meeting held onFebruary 9th, 2014, that discussed the programs inthe implementation of 2014 plan, proposals for 2015,in which all the member expressed their support forEIBFS efforts in the area of training, making the 2015plan available to all employees and encourage themto make use of opportunities available.

General Features of the Plan

Increasing the number of programs by 9% comparedto 2014, amounting to 535 programs offering a newprograms to meet the needs of the banking sector.Implementing of 149 programs in Sharjah,representing 28% of the total number of programs.Implementing of 186 programs in Dubai Branch,representing 35% of the total number of programs.Offering 154 programs in Abu Dhabi Branch,representing 29%of the plan. Offering 24 programs inAl Ain, 17 programs in Al Fujeirah and 5 programs inRas Al Khaimah. The 2015 plan expects to offer more programs duringthe month of Ramadan, based on our experienceduring 2014, as 7 programs were offered during theholly month. Programs that are going to be offeredduring Ramadan are expected to reach 15 trainingprograms, 5 in each branch.

e-Training

In continuing to implement the Institute’s strategy fordeveloping the training program and achieving itsvision, the institute will continue offering e-learningfor bankers through the provision of 65 programs

designed in collaboration with Intuition Co to trainabout 3500 bankers; to meet their self needs. Thistype of training is considered a new developmentthat tis consistent with spirit of the area that dependson new technology in installing new knowledge. It isalso consistent with the institutes strategy and visionfor developing the training implemented since 2013;and continued through 2014.

The institute also has created an i-pad portal tocommunicate with the internal and external publicand for use as a data-base for registration andevaluation. Professional Certi�cates the number ofprofessional certi�cates will incease to (11) in (6)area. Those certi�cates get a lot of attention fombankers as they represent an important requirementfor �lling some jobs in the banking & �nance sect .They are also internationally recognized as animportant quali�cation for graduates looking for jobsin the banking & �nance secto. Three newprofessional certi�cates will be ofered during 2015 incalibration with international organizations accordingto the request of the banking sector, as follows:1- In the �eld of cedit in collaboration with IFC:a.Credit Risk management certi�cateb.Advanced SME banking certi�cate2- In the �eld of Islamic Finance in collaboration withIBFIM:a.Certi�cate in banking & Islamic Finance

Leadership programs

1- Executive leadership development program incollaboration with Darden School of Business,university of Virginia (3rd Batch); the program will beorganized for a duration of 3 weeks, during theperiod 27 April to 16 May, 2015 in calibrating with theBahrain Banking Institute, the KSA Banking Institute& Darden School of Business. The program aim atdeveloping the leadership skills of bankers. About 10UAE national in the banking sector will participate inthis program. The institute will pay the fees for half ofthem, amounting to 100 thousand Dirhams each one.

2- Effective leadership & strategic planning programin calibration with Harvard UniversityThis program will be organized in collaboration withHarvard University – Business school & the Kuwaitibanking institute. Each year is conducted in one ofthe GCC countries. In 2015 is UAE nationals areexpected to participate in this program, with anincrease of 5 UAE national compared to 2014. Theprogram aims at developing the leadership skills ofexecutives in the banking sector in the GCCcountries in response to the strategic challenges &effective team management created by continuouschanges.

3- Integrating women in Leadership poisons programThe 3rd batch of this program will be conductedduring the last quarter of 2015 in Dubai incollaboration with Darden school of Business about35 women in leadership positions are expected toparticipate in this program which aims at enhancingtheir ability to lead, manage, measure and analyze.The 2015 plan includes 7 workshops and aconference aiming at tacking the new themes inbanking.

The workshop is for one day only and will discusswork papers. The following are the themes for 2015workshops including a conference on "Women in theBanking & Finance sector: Challenges & Future

1- Financing major infrastructure in UAE2- FACTA updates.3- Information security and data protection in thebanking sector.4- Financial crime.5- Liquidity management in banks.6- Insurance business in the UAE.7- The changing Landscape of banking in the UAE &MENA.

Mr. Jamal Al Jassmi, General Manager of EIBFSand Mr. Iwan Roberts, Head of PartnershipDevelopment & Management, InternationalEducation Center, Bangor University, met recentlyand discussed the mutual cooperation betweenthe two institutions; they agreed on strengtheningthose relationships which continued for a numberof years noting that Bangor is one of the mostprestigious British universities that has highlyreputed Banking, Finance and Accountingprograms.

At the same time, the university has goodrelations and presence in a number of GCCcountries. Bangor University Commends theInstitute's Programs and Educational EnvironmentMr. Iwan Roberts, the representative of BangorUniversity, who came on a short visit on his wayback from Bahrain to UK, expressed his great

satisfaction with the programs offered by EIBFS,especially at the B.Sc. level and he commendedalso on the facilities provided by EIBFS forlearning. He also expressed the willingness ofBangor University to offer joint educationalprograms with EIBFS, similar to what is offered inBahrain.

Open alternatives to UAE Students according tothe agreement will include studying in UAE andcompleting their B.Sc. in UK, or completing all oftheir studies in UAE. This will be subject to theapproval of the UAE Ministry of Higher Educationand Scientific Research. EIBFS exerts all thiseffort to the benefit of UAE nationals looking forspecialized education at the highest levels toenhance their competence for competition in thebanking & finance labor market.

EIBFS General Manager Mr. Jamal Al Jassmireceives the Accreditation Certificate from theFAA Chief Executive Officer in Kuala Lampour,Malaysia the Hon'ble Prime Minister of MalaysiaDatuk Seri Najib Tun Razzak witnessed theexchange of MoU between Mr. Jamal AlJassmi, General Manager of EIBFS, and Dato'Professor Joseph Adaikalam, the ExecutiveChairman of Binary in an auspicious ceremonyheld at the 10th World Islamic Economic Forum(WIFE), Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.

Present at the occasion were MalaysianInternational Trade and Industry Minister DatukSeri Mustapa Mohamed and WIFE FoundationChairman Tun Musa Hitam and a large numberofdignitaries, delegates and media persons.Speaking at a press conference held after thesigning and exchange ceremony, Mr. Jamal AlJassmi stressed that EIBFS is keen to engage incooperation with international academicinstitutions to offer top class quality education inthe field of banking and finance in the region.EIBFS is the premier education and traininginstitute in the UAE that impart academic,professional certification and short term trainingprograms in various areas of banking, finance,insurance and Islamic banking. Academiccollaboration with leading Malaysian Universityshall open door to offer more variety to itsexisting programs, he added. Mr. Saleh Omar,

the Manager of Abu Dhabi was also present thepress conference.
