Mentoring FLL Team Lego Giants Written by Savanna Denega

In October we were invited to help the robotics class of Gravataí SESI who are

preparing to participate in the FLL (FIRST Lego League) competition which will take

place in late November at FIERGS in Porto Alegre. FLL is another embodiment of

FIRST. It is the same competition we participate in every year, but with students

between 9 and 16 years old, many of whom are in primary school and utilize Lego

components to assemble their robot. The theme of this year’s game is ‘Trash Trek’,

and it includes everything to do with sorting and moving garbage, especially recycling

and generating less waste.

We have been in SESI's headquarters teaching our knowledge to the class of young

people who are very anxious for the day of the tournament, teaching them about the

competition, and showing that the competition will be an enjoyable time and that

they will gain a great deal of knowledge. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and

continue having fun and learning from them.

We have been participating in the

Movement Natura edict, which

supports social projects aimed to

assist poor communities. It is a

very interesting opportunity to

show our project to the whole

country. Although there has not

been the opportunity for us to be

awarded the prize, we appreciate

all the support of Natura with the

release on its website.

Visit to the Mayor of Gravataí

On Tuesday 13/10, we visited the mayor Marco Alba in Gravataí City Hall in thanks for all the support given to

us in 2013 to participate in the FIRST Championship in St. Louis – USA. We presented our excellent results of

the season this year, winning the title of vice-champions in China Robotics Challenge in August.
