Jesus willingly dies on the cross for our sins. He is raised to

life three days later and returns to His friends just as He

said He would. Jesus, our Savior, is alive today and wants

to be our forever friend! Matthew 27:27-66, 28:1-10

Why this Bible lesson matters: The Israelites seem to have recognized

that Jesus was God’s promised Savior, but they were hoping that He would save

them from the harsh Roman rulers and become their earthly King. However, Jesus

was coming that time to save them (and us) from sin so that we can have a

relationship with God. God is loving and He WANTS to have a relationship with the

people He has made. All of us have done wrong things called “sin” (Sin = anything

we think, say or do that disobeys or displeases God). God sent Jesus to make a way

for our sinful hearts to be made clean. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose

again three days later. He now lives in heaven, and if we believe that He did this

for us, then we can have a relationship with God and live forever with Him in

heaven someday. What an amazing and awesome truth to share with the kids and

those around us!

Connect: (reinforce learning the Bible truth with a fun activity!) Garden

ENGAGE Go on a walk around the neighborhood and find a rock about the size of a half dollar, along the way pick up small sticks,

leaves and flowers. Using a disposable foil pan, have your child fill it with dirt and add the sticks, leaves and flowers that

he found around the neighborhood. Cut a large potato in half and then cut a large opening in the potato on the side. (If

you don't have a potato, use anything that can make a dome shape with an opening) Place the potato cut side down in

the garden to be the tomb and then place the rock over the large opening to be the stone in front of the tomb. Have

your child roll the tomb away to show that it is empty.

Talk with your child about the resurrection by using these questions:

What did the women see when they came to the tomb? How was the stone rolled away? Where was Jesus? Who did the women go tell that Jesus was gone? Who can you tell that Jesus is alive?
