Design lovers, welcome to Montis. In the past forty years we have designed over a hundred pieces of furniture.From classics to innovative contemporary designs, we have always made furniturebefitting modern life. A sofa that embraces you after a long day at work; a chairthat welcomes your friends to a dinner party; or an armchair that invites you to readyour mail at ease. Our artisanal details first please the eye, then the rest follows.Because everything has to be just right. We understand you don’t want to sacrificedesign for the sake of comfort. Nor do you want to sacrifice comfort for design.Because a beautiful sofa must also be comfortable. That’s why we exclusively workwith designers who, just like us, when they come home, want to enjoy the luxury ofgood design. Have a seat, have an espresso, and relax.

CraftsmanshipComfortQualityEvery Montis sofa or armchair offers a unique level of comfort to match its design. To guarantee this quality, we at Montis have invested in our own foam shaping facility where we work with high quality polyurethane foam. This gives our designers virtually unlimited freedomin shaping their designs. Together with our craftsmen, they strive to maximize comfort, tailoring to your personal use. Day after day. Year after year. Because only when form and comfort complement each other, we call a design a good design.

Niels Bendtsen

Niels Bendtsen (1943) lives and works in Vancouver, Canada. He was educated at institutes in both Copenhagen (Denmark) and Vancouver (Canada). The ‘ribbon-chair’, designed by Niels, is an exhibit in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Arian Brekveld

Arian Brekveld (Apeldoorn 1968) graduated from the Eindhoven Design Academy in 1995. After working for two years at Ontwerpwerk in The Hague, he has been an independent designer since 1998, working from his studio in Rotterdam.Without shaping his designs excessively, Brekveld designs are characterized by bright, clear lines. The result is an almost sober design with a timeless value, which is partly defined by a thorough examination of form and a tasteful and intelligent use of color and material.

Simon Pengelly

Simon Pengelly was born in Henley-on-Thames, England, in 1967. Originally trained at the bench, he was an award winning cabinetmaker before graduating from Kingston University in 1988. Pengelly started manufacturing furniture in the workshop of his father at the tender age of eight. He has since developed into a celebrated furniture design.

Gijs Papavoine

Gijs Papavoine (1949) studied at the institute of technology and Eindhoven Academy for Industrial Design, Product Design department. Gijs was employed as a Product Manager at Montis until 1990. In this capacity, he was jointly responsible for Montis’ design philosophy. In 1990, Gijs was promoted to dedicated designer of Montis.

AXEL Gijs Papavoine10 Year AxelThe legs under the delicately cut cubist surrounds are almost hidden from view, as a result of which the couch seems to have no connection with the floor. The height of the seat is chosen quite high in order to simplify the standing up. Axel has more than 30 possible combinations because of all the different sizes and elements like for example the cornerseat.Axel is comfortable also an inviting and cosy appearance, for 10 years.

Liefhebbers van mooie vormgeving, welkom bij Montis. De afgelopen veertig jaar hebben we meer dan honderd meubels ontworpen.

Van klassiekers tot vernieuwende eigentijdse ontwerpen, wij hebben altijd

meubels gemaakt die passen bij het moderne leven. Een bank die je omarmt

na een lange dag werk. Een stoel die je vrienden verwelkomt voor een diner.

Of een fauteuil die je uitnodigt ontspannen je mail te lezen. Met onze

vakkundige details verleiden we eerst het oog. Daarna komt de rest. Want alles

moet kloppen. Wij begrijpen dat je geen vormgeving wilt inleveren ten koste

van comfort. Maar ook geen comfort ten koste van de vormgeving. Want een

mooie bank moet ook gewoon lekker zitten. Daarom werken we uitsluitend

met ontwerpers die net als wij, als ze thuiskomen, willen genieten van de luxe

van een goed ontwerp. Nu, na een periode van reflectie lanceren we nu, samen

met hun, vijf nieuwe meubels. Ga zitten, neem een espresso en ontspan.

The seat has been stitched throughin a beautiful box stripe pattern. As a result of this no undesired big creases will develop despite the size of the seat length. A large thin supple cushion is an option to allow you to nestle down comfortably on any side. The seating properties are geared to North European needs when it comes to height and are firm enough to easily get up from.
