Attractive white leatherette folders (including a photograph of our outdoor shrine of Mary, Mother of Divine Providence) are available at the Parish Offices. You may choose one of three enrollment periods (25 years, 50 years or a perpetual remembrance) with a donation of $25, $50, or $100. Spiritual Gift Enrollments for Rosemarie DeRosa & Theresa Gilmore, in honor of their retirement, was given by the Connor Family.

FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Friends, The message of Jesus in the Gospel today is a strong one. It continues the theme of the cost of discipleship. Jesus is here shown expecting His followers to have a singleness of purpose that not even Elisha has in the first reading. Jesus has begun His ‘journey to Jerusalem,’ and He does so with purpose. He is preparing to meet His fate there. Jesus’ passion does not happen by accident; He knows what will be the result of His actions and still He continues on his way. As our parish gathers this weekend to worship God and receive His great gift, let us be grateful to Him for such love shown to us by Jesus, our Lord and Savior. As you can see preparations are well under way for the commencement of our Community Carnival! I hope you will visit our website: MDPPARISH.COM to find the answer how YOU can help! I am grateful to Paul Bevenour, Joe Backe, Jim Volpe, the Knights of Columbus and the Parish Athletic Association for their contribution toward the demolition of the Brownie Hut and the construction of our new storage facility. Suggestions for a name for the new ‘brownie hut,’ will be welcomed. I am thankful too for our seminarian, Steven Kiernan for his teaching the Vatican II Documents on Thursdays and for organizing the Movie Night we held last Saturday as a part of our FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM commemoration. A great time was had by all!

Have a good week. Let us pray for each

other this week, Faithfully, Father Cioppi

RETIREMENT CELEBRATION Please join us after the 11:30 Mass this Sunday, in Providence Hall, for a reception with light refreshments, to thank Theresa Gilmore who is retiring as our Director of Religious Education after serving Mother of Divine Providence Parish for 14 years. Please plan on stopping in to greet Theresa and thank her for her many years coordinating the religious education of our youth and for leading the

RCIA Program.

A BITTER-SWEET FAREWELL I would like to take this time to thank all the MDP Parishioners for the wonderful experience I have had as Parish Secretary of Mother of Divine Providence Parish. You have made these years something I will never forget. You have become part of my family and you have made me feel a part of your MDP family. I take this with me into my retirement.

At the time of my illness, you really showed your love for me with all the prayers and meals that were sent to feed my husband, son, and I which we greatly appreciated. As you can see, your prayers worked and your meals really worked. I will never forget this tremendous love for me.

I would like to thank Father Cioppi and Monsignor Murray for making my job so fun-filled and enjoyable. I would like to thank Marianne Houston for being my sounding board and a sister-like presence. I would also like to thank Sr. Veronica for being there spiritually for me and showing me what a good example of what a Christ-follower really is. And last but not least I would like to thank Susan Dugary and Mariann Bevenour for the laughter, guidance and making me feel so wonderful about myself.

I am going to miss you all very much and you will be remembered in my prayers every day.

I also want you to welcome Carol Murray, your new parish secretary. Carol has dedication and a great sense of humor. Carol is caring and really goes out of her way to help everyone. I know in time you will show her the love as much as you showed your love for me. Good Luck Carol. You have been blessed with your new job.

Love, Rosemarie DeRosa

WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WEEK?

This article comes to you from Theresa Gilmore. I am happy that she has this opportunity to share her experience in Nicaragua for Father Chuck’s Challenge. “Dirt floors, mud, cardboard, black plastic pieces of wood and tin were the building components of shacks that housed three generations in a small space. A rope, on which hung all the family’s clothing, divided the home into tiny sleeping areas, and the grandmother’s bed was a thin blanket on a piece of cracked plywood perched off the floor to keep it dry. The ‘cooking area’ seemed devoid of food which would have consisted of beans and rice. Yet the faces of the family members beamed at the visit of 24 ‘rich Americans’ who came in out of the torrential rain because it meant there was hope of getting a real house with a door they could lock. A mission trip to Nicaragua with Msgr. Schmidt to dedicate churches, community centers and bless homes was a real eye-opener to all of us pilgrims. The new home owners said it was a dream come true, a miracle, something that made them proud to finally own a real home. Truly joyful with their 400 sq. ft. concrete floor and walls, furnished with two beds, a square plastic picnic table and 4 plastic chairs, these families couldn’t thank us enough. The villagers are also equipped with an outside water faucet that operates 3 hours a day on 2

or 3 days per week, an outdoor latrine, and a chicken coop with chickens and a rooster. Little stuffed animals, balls and stickers delighted the children’, new mothers received a cloth diaper, teenage girls were given a homemade purse with a small bottle of lotion and gratitude filled the air. At each of the 9 villages that we visited, we left 4 suitcases filled with clothing, shoes, etc. The immense gratitude for so little is in extreme contrast to our throw-away society. www.fatherchuckschallenge.com is the place to make the lives of the poorest people in Nicaragua a whole lot better. We are truly blessed.” What have you seen this week?
