A Few Words from Congressman Moran to the 8th Congressional District
Fighting to improve thequality of life for everyonein Northern Virginia is jobnumber 1. The failed BushAdministration left theAmerican economy inshambles. Over the past
two years, weve workedhard to prevent a deeperdecline and reverse the se-vere economic downturnthat resulted from this mis-management. At the sametime, weve enacted historiclegislative achievements, from passing health insur-ance reform that will makeaffordable insurance avail-
able to all Americans to re-form of Wall Street so thatthe American peoples hardearned savings will be bet-ter protected from grossfinancial negligence. In the 112th Congress, I
plan to focus my energieson strengthening our re-gion's economic vitality anddiversity through promot-ing affordable housing, anefficient public transit sys-tem, an educational systemthat develops every child'sfull potential, and the pro-tection of our natural envi-ronment. I believe the fed-
eral government can andshould play an indispensiblerole in enabling individualsand their communities tomaximize economic andeducational opportunities, while preserving an even
higher quality of life fortheir children and grand-children. We must alsotackle head-on the growingnational debt so that futuregenerations are not saddledwith this generations fiscalirresponsibility.

On July 12, 2010, Congress-man Moran secured the en-dorsement of the Amalga-mated Transit Union, Local689. With over 190,000members spread across thecountry, the AmalgamatedTransit Union is the largestunion representing transitworkers in the United States. The Congressman is gratefulfor this endorsement, which
is crucial in a District with alarge number of transitworkers, constituents in-creasingly reliant on publictransportation, and an evergrowing regional Metro Sys-tem.Another endorsement camefrom the National Associa-tion of Social Workers, anorganization working for thehighest uniform standards insocial work with over150,000 members nation-wide. The organization
strives for the protection ofvulnerable members of soci-ety, as well as an expandedfocus on mental health is-sues, and increasing thenumber of qualified socialworkers available. TheNASW Chairman, Dr. Mary
McCarthy, announced thatthe organization is extend-ing their support in lightof[Congressman Morans]commitment to the well-being of individuals, fami-lies, and communities.Congressman Moran ispleased to receive the sup-port of the NASW, as he hasbeen a long time champion
of the rights of those inneed. Additionally, he hasadvocated for the need forgreater mental healthcare, especially for these oftendisenfranchised members ofour society.
