Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat”
“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything
impure or unclean”
I have my lines, my tribeSo…no!
The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean”
In everything…God decides where the lines are

While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you…
So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to
go with them, for I have sent them
Why would he hesitate?Literally, "making no distinction"
They aren't part of his tribeHe's a Jew. They ain't
Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the
centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is
respected by all the Jewish people
A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say”
Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests
The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along
The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had
called together his relatives and close friends
As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself”
While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large
gathering of people. He said to them…
“You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile
I'm not supposed to be hereYou guys are dirty, unclean
But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean…
I wouldn't be hereBut God made me
So I guess I'll have to accept you
So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection…
“I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation
the one who fears him and does what is right
"My Tribe isn't the only oneAnd we're not the best ones
It's grace, not favoritismBased on how awesome we are"
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message
The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were
astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out
even on Gentiles
For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God
God became BigAnd blew up Peter's Tribe
Obliterated his lines
Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the
way of their being baptized with water. They have received the
Holy Spirit just as we have”- Acts 10
God became bigAnd blew up Peter's lines
Ended his tribeAnd gave him a better one
What happens when God becomes Big?
He blows up our tribesAnd erases our lines
To set us free
Peter should have known
…receive power…you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth- Acts 1:8
Peter should have known For the promise is for you
and for your children and for all who are far off,
everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself- Acts 2:39
Tribalism ends in Christ
God refuses to let it go…
For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility
…by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in
ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man
in place of the two, so making peace…
…and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility- Eph. 2:14-16

I appeal to you…that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you…

God wants to obliterate your lines
And remove your tribalismSo that you can be free
To serve him by loving people
God's Lines:
- Adopted by grace thru faith- Provisioned by not adopted
Among Churches:
Accept with differing convictionsRefuse outright heresy
Not-Yet Sheep, Sheep Shepherds and Wolves
Lines: Reach, DiscipleObey as they Serve,
Protect From
We are only tribalisticTo the degree that our God
Stays small and controllableBecause then he's on our sideAgainst them
The answer to Tribalism:Big God= Big Picture
Eternal eclipses Temporary
It is good and right to have Convictions
