Did you know that sour candies erode toothenamel and speed up decay?
It’s True! Sour candies contain citric acidwhich erodes tooth enamel much faster thanany other food. Most sour candies are moreacidic than vinegar, and are in contact withteeth for prolonged periods as the candy iseaten. Rinsing after sour candy helps.

COOS BAY — The 2020 Oregon Coast Film Festival will be held Jan. 24-25 at the Egyptian Theatre, 229 S. Broadway, Coos Bay.
The film festival is an exhi-bition of Oregon films, filmmak-ers, cinematographers and pho-tographers.
The two-day festival pro-gram includes documentary films and shorts, photography, student films and selected feature film(s).
Entering the seventh sea-son, the film festival continues to focus on the culture, history, environment and recreation of Oregon and the surrounding region.
"We continue to receive outstanding short films entered into the film festival," said festi-val founder and curator Dave Wilhite. “Again this year, we have several southern Oregon art-ists represented in the program.”
A local highlight in the film festival is "Samurai in the Oregon Sky” by filmmaker Ilana Sol.
The subject of the film is the famed aerial bombing over southern Oregon during WWII and the Japanese pilot’s story of peace and reconciliation with the people and community of Brookings.
Other local artists showing at the festival include southern Oregon artist Rachel Gates and Marshfield High graduate Hannah Mason.
"I see the Film Festival as another platform for these artists to exhibit their work," Wilhite said. "It’s local and a great venue at the Egyptian Theatre.”
Showtimes: Session 1: Friday evening at 7 p.m. Session 2: Saturday matinee at 3 p.m. Session 3: Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
Tickets: $7 per session; all-session festival pass: $15. Tickets are available at the door or online at Eventbrite.com. Website: OregonCoastFilmFestival.org. Facebook: Oregon Coast Film Festival.

BANDON — A new exhibition of photographs exploring Bandon during the Eisenhower Era, 1955–1961, is now on display at the Bandon Professional Center through Nov. 25, 2020.
The exhibition features over 40 historic photo-graphs sourced from the Bandon Western World newspaper film negatives. Many of these images are being publicly shown for the first time.
The photographs depict scenes of everyday Bandon life but reflect broad themes of the United States of the 1950s. There was postwar prosperity, a blossoming material culture and local economic struggles. New thinking challenged traditions of art, design, music and dance. Women contributed in the workforce amidst evolving perceptions of domestic
values. The Cold War loomed and schools imple-mented more rigorous instruction in science and technology. But throughout we see the generous and resilient nature of Bandon citizens, celebrating and enjoying life, giving charitably, and engaging in civic improvement.
This exhibition is possible thanks to the board, staff, and volunteers of the Bandon Historical Society, with special thanks to Mary Schamehorn and the Bandon Western World newspaper.
The Bandon Professional Center is located at 1010 First Street SE in Bandon. The exhibition is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

BANDON — The Bandon Chamber of Commerce will present the second-annual Bandon Crab Fest.
The event will be held at the Old Town Marketplace building, 250 First St. SW on the Bandon waterfront. Tickets are $45 each for a whole crab meal that includes cheese appetizers, chowder, pasta salad, roll, beverage and dessert, along with live music and dancing. For those with shellfish allergies, a prime rib dinner will be offered for $50. There are also hot-dog meals and activities for chil-dren.
The Bandon Crab Fest was created as a means to be a "rotating fundraiser." Last year, more than 375 people attended. The proceeds from the pilot year totaling more than $5,000 were awarded to the Bandon Historical Society Museum. This year, pro-ceeds are slated to benefit scholarships for Bandon High School students seeking training in industrial arts vocations to further their education.
"As Lori Osborne came on the board last month, she asked that the Chamber continue this event," said Chamber CEO/President Margaret Pounder. "With her help and guidance, tickets are now available for purchase. So many people last year asked if it could be a two-day event to give a choice of times to attend, so this year it’s being offered for a Saturday night dinner with music and dancing, and Sunday at noon with easy listening music."
Saturday, Feb. 22, doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m.
Music starts at 6:30 p.m. with Hecktic Week, an energy-packed duo with powerful vocals and beat driven grooves. Their foot stomping and soul touch-ing sound is a blues-influenced infusion of nostalgic country, folk and rock.
At 8:30 p.m., Johnny Wheels & the Swamp Donkeys will play. Collectively, the band hails from Oregon, Texas and California and is typically tagged as a Blues band, although, the diversity of the mem-bers’ musical backgrounds becomes evident as the
worlds of R&B, soul, jazz, funk and rock. are blended under a blues umbrella.
Sunday, Feb. 23, doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the meal being served at noon and music start-ing at 12:30 p.m.
From 12:30-2 p.m., Caught Red Handed will play. All three members are multi-instrumentalists and singers. The trio is well-known for its strong three-part vocal harmonies, flashy solo instrumental breaks and quirky on-stage conversation. They'll play original tunes from their two CD releases as well as popular selections from the Americana song-book encompassing bluegrass, country, folk and even a touch of old-time rock 'n'roll.
From 2:30-4 p.m., singer-songwriter/cover art-ist Jeff Kloetzel will perform. His original songs are fueled by his rhythmic guitar work and soulful vocals. Influenced by many musical genres includ-ing pop, rock, folk, blues and contemporary island, there should be something for everyone in Kloetzel's set list.

COOS BAY — With 2019 at an end, the envi-ronmental nonprofit SOLVE reported that they con-nected nearly 32,000 volunteers to over 1,160 envi-ronmental projects in a year-end update for their 50th year of operation.
In the course of these projects, SOLVE reported volunteers collected 282,012 pounds of litter and marine debris, recycled 169,386 cigarettes, and cleared over 21 acres of invasive species.
"The informal SOLVE motto is just to 'get things done,'" said Kris Carico, SOLVE CEO. "We are a small but mighty team, always thinking of the most efficient route to have the biggest impact to improve Oregon's environment."
Many Oregonians know SOLVE from their coast-wide beach cleanups and SOLVE IT Earth Day
events. However, SOLVE supports volunteers throughout the year and promotes volunteer opportu-nities every weekend on their website.
SOLVE was founded by Governor Tom McCall in 1969 and is Oregon's go-to environmental non-profit. SOLVE focuses on marine debris prevention, litter cleanup, removal of invasive species, and plant-ing native trees. They engage hundreds of thousands of volunteers to collect litter and remove invasive plants every year. Since their start 50 years ago, it's estimated they have cleared over a million pounds of litter and cleared hundreds of acres of coast land.
