State Horse Show will be held July 16-20
at Fonner Park in Grand Island
Entries are Due May 8th to the Extension Office

2016 4-H Horse Camp—June 8-10 Fort Robinson State Park
Historic Fort Robinson State Park will once again host the 4-H Horse Camp on June 8-10, 2017. All
individuals, ages eight and older, are welcome to attend with activities for junior, intermediate, and
senior / adult. The 4-H code of conduct will be in effect but membership is not mandatory.
Pre-registration is required by May 19, with a $50 fee per camper. Adult guardians will get a $10.00
discount if registering with a paid youth camper. Training topics will include bareback equitation,
showmanship, ranch horse pleasure, hippology, and the AQHA Trail Challenge. Optional horse
judging and a Trail Challenge competition will also be offered.
All ages 8 and up welcome to attend (members, leaders & parents)
$50 per camper All registrations & camper health papers due by June 1

Clover Kid Information Ages 5-7 (as of Jan 1 2017)
They do have to enroll on 4honline.com It is completely FREE to be a Clover Kid!
Clover Kids can enter in many different categories
Animal Science, Citizenship, Clothes Care, Communications, Food and Nutrition, Home Environment, Horticulture,
Outdoor Discovery, and Safety. They can show animals under 350 pounds!
This is the building blocks of becoming a 4-H member!

4-H Summer Camps
The 2017 Summer Season is approaching fast. All youth between the ages of 5—15 are invited to enjoy summer camp at the Nebraska 4-H Camp located in Halsey and the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center located in Gretna as well as the Destination Camps across Nebraksa. The summer programs offered provide all youth a place to discover, learn and grow. Following are the camps offered:
Kids Day Camps—Open to youth ages 5—8
Explorer Camps—Open to youth ages 8—11
Discovery Camps—Open to youth ages 11—15.

Nebraska Youth Range Camp
The Nebraska Youth Range Camp provides hands on experience with rangeland and natural resources. Campers participate in field activities, lectures, leadership/team-building activities and field trips to a local working ranch and a national forest.
The camp is open to members 14—18 years of age and is held at the Nebraska State 4-H Camp in Halsey, June 5-9. Registration is still open. For more information and a camp brochure contact the Extension Office or apply online at: www.nesrm.org.

Tractor Safety Training
The UNL Tractor Safety Course will be offered in Gering, June 15th and 16th, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Gering Legacy Museum.
Anyone who is 14 or 15 years and plans to work on a farm or ranch for someone other than his/her own parents must be certified. The course is also an excellent training for youth who will be working on their family farm. It does cost $60.00
Pre-registration is required. Registration forms are available at the Extension Office. ____________________________________________________________________________________
4-H Shooting Sports National Championship 2017
JUNE 25-30, 2017 GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA
The 2017 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships will be held June 25 - June 30 in Grand Island, Nebraska at the Heartland Public Shooting Park. The event is hosted by Nebraska 4-H. 4-H youth from across the country will compete in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills. Sewing Workshops June 5th, 12th, and 19th at the Prairie Winds Community Center
June 5th 1-4pm “Get the Notion to Sew”
*Beginners sewing class*
To begin crafting garments, you will need to start at the beginning: the tools and supplies of sewing. In this workshop youth will make a standard size
pillowcase, learn to select and identify the correct tools to use for different sewing projects, and build a portfolio that you will record your successes. Feel
free to bring your own thread, pins, seam ripper, and scissors. For first time sewers a “Sew Buddy” is required.

June 12th 1-4pm “Sewing Colorful”
We live in a colorful world! This workshop will help you explore colors as they are arranged in the color wheel and learn the different between Warm
Hues and Cool Hues. Planning and organizing fabric selections based on the color wheel will help you make dynamic color choices for the future sewing
projects.

June 19th 9am-4pm “Size up Pajama Party”
Patterns are made in various sizes: however, very few people exactly fit any one pattern. In this workshop we will learn to take accurate body
measurements to purchase or make your own patterns and create your own pajama pants! You will create an accurate list of your body’s unique
measurements. Then, you will make a simple pair of pajama pants with an elastic waist band. You will need to pre-purchase and pre-wash 3 yard of flannel
or cotton fabric. Please bring a sack lunch as this is an all day workshop.
Fee: $25

Shooting sports reminder— Youth must attend 3 practices and 1 meeting with a certified leader in each discipline
or you will not be able to shoot during the 2017 fair. We do not have set dates for the shooting sports competition
for fair yet—they will be posted as soon as they are available

The 4-H Teen dance is Friday July 28th from 8-11 but New this year it is at PWCC
We are doing the Blow & Go Beef Show again this year! If you have questions on rules please call the extension

Livestock Quality Assurance Course All Members enrolled in a Market Animal project must complete the course each year. Intermediate (11-13) & Senior(14 & up) age groups may test out in their age group without taking the course. Practice test are available through the online course, however, the actual test is administered by their local extension office. NCTA Livestock Judging Camp & Youth Science Field Day The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture would like to invite all youth ages 8—18 to the Livestock Judging Camp to be held May 24 at the NCTA Campus in Curtis. They also invite youth to participate the following day for the Nebraska Extension’s Youth Animal Science Field Day May 25. For your convenience, those participating both days have the option to register for an overnight stay in the resident halls on Campus. Participants will gain important l i f e skills whi l e attending
seven d ifferent workshops taught by Nebraska Extens ion and NCTA staff . Pre-registration is encouraged and due by May 18. There is a $50 registration fee for the Judging Camp and a $5 fee for the Youth Science Field Day. L unch wi l l be provided for the Field Day by the Frontier County 4-H Council. SHOOTING SPORTS FINAL TESTING FOR ALL YOUTH NEEDING TRAINING AND HUNTERS SAFTEY
Sunday May 7th at 12:30 pm at the Rural Fire Hall -this will be SAFETY training and test and then there will be the Morrill County Shooting Sports meeting to follow. Monday May 22nd at 6:00pm at the Prairie Winds Community Center is the LAST Hunters safety session testing. If your child needs hunters safety course they will have to take the course online at their leisure BUT they MUST test out on May 22nd. They can't practice .22 or shotgun without Hunter Certification! The website is register-ed.com it is 29.50 for firearm and archery.

The Tom Holman 4-H Scholarship A $250.00 award will be given to one Scotts Bluff and one Morrill County 4-Her annually in remembrance of Extension Educator Tom Holman.
Applications are due by September 23. The recipients will be announced at the annual 4-H awards event in their respective county. The scholarship will be paid directly to their college/university upon successful completion of their first semester .

PASE/Life Challenge 4-H Event
What is it? - PASE is the Premier Animal Science Event. Teens compete in a variety of different contests including: Livestock, Meats and Poultry Judging, Livestock Skillathon & Livestock Quiz Bowl. Life Challenge events include: Family & Consumer Sciences Team Problem Solving Challenges and Healthy Living Skillathon. You can participate in any or all of these activities. In addition, you will have chances to explore the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus, meet with faculty members, and have time for fun with your friends. When and Where is it? - It will be held June 25-27 2017 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus. Horticulture Judging Contest Online The 2017 Nebraska 4-H Online Horticulture Judging contest is just around the corner! This year the contest will be available from June 9th at 8:00 a.m. until June 19th at 8:00 a.m. It is composed of three parts; general knowledge questions, plant part and seed identification, as

PIES(NO CREAM), COOKIES, BROWNIES, BARS, RICE CRISPIE, BAGS OF ICE, BOXES OF CANDY BARS, INDIVIDUAL SERVING OF BAGS OF CHIPS, 12 PK OF PEPSI OR COKE PRODUCTS.
Monday July 24th—Friday July 28th the available shifts are: 7am-10am, 10am to 1pm, 1pm to 4pm, 4pm to 7pm Saturday July 29th shifts are 7am –10:30am, 10:30am to 2pm Each shift can have 4 4-h youth and 3 adults

The Council has added additional work times and dates to this years work schedule. Please have each of your 4-H’ers sign up to work and please include 4-H’ers age with their name. Clover Kids are not required to work, but they can help in the dining room. If there are 4-H’ers who don’t want to work - they will need to pay the 4-H Council $20.00 EACH for this option. Each person will be assigned to a specific job that includes: 4-H youth- washing tables, sweeping, making drinks, helping cooks, serving food, dishes, ect. Adults– help cook, over see 4-H’ers, cashier, ect.
It is Manditory for each person working in the kitchen to wear a head covering, either a cap, bandana or some other type of covering. If you do not have a hair cover you will wear a hair net. When taking a break, it is required to sit in the dining hall and ALL drinks must be left outside of the kitchen. These are state laws with the Health Inspector.
Have a first, second, and third option to sign up for please. This year is a —First come first choice of day and times assigned.
