PASTOR’S MESSAGE
From the Mouth of Lyons
September 4, 2012
Praise the Lord! In our hours of need, the Lord provides. We petition the Lord
in prayer for supplication, both for individual and corporate needs. Once when the
Apostle Paul was attempting to enter the region of Galatia to preach, the Holy Spirit
prevented him from entering the area. Then one night, he had a vision of a man
pleading with him to “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” The Apostle Paul
went to Macedonia the next day to continue his ministry (Acts 16:6-10). I believe
that the Apostle Paul’s vision was the result of the people’s fervent prayers.
This summer we have been praying for God to lead to us a new Minister for
Youth. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee is currently advertising and receiving
resumes. We know God will provide a permanent, full-time minister in his time.
Until then, we have prayed for God to send someone to “Come over to Walkertown
and help us.” God has answered this prayer in Josh Britton. We welcome him to
Morris Chapel to minister to and with our youth as he introduces himself below.
Thankful for God’s providence,
Pastor Dan Lyons

Hello Morris Chapel UMC,
It is my pleasure to be serving this church through directing the youth ministry
I am extremely blessed and excited to be with you all for the next few months.
Although this will be my first Sunday attending Morris Chapel, I have been able to
meet many of you all in the past several years. During my service at Camp Tekoa, I
was blessed to know Abby and Caitlin Thomas, Aaron Cook, Chastan Swain, and
countless campers from your congregation. I know from the fruit that you have
produced that this church is vital. I hope that I am able to get to know each of you in
these coming months. And I am excited about spending time with the youth group
here.

PRAYER CHAIN
Week of August 26, 2012
Wayne Beeson, Chance Blakley, Jane Burr, Family of Peggy Burr, F.C. Dillon, Lynn Evans, Clark Hemrick, Sylvia Parham, Tom Venable, Family of Marjorie Anne Wilson
Just to let you know a bit about me, I am 23 years old, and I’m currently in my
second year at Duke Divinity School. Before my time at Dook (or is it Duke?) I got
a bachelor’s degree in journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. I grew up in Union County,
North Carolina, just south of Charlotte. I was blessed to attend a church with vibrant
worship and an excellent youth ministry. Looking back upon my formative years, I
know with certainty that the youth ministry at Bethlehem UMC made me who I am
today. God worked in powerful ways through leaders and volunteers, as well as my
peers. Upon graduation from high school, I was led to Camp Tekoa, a camp where I
would serve for the next five summers.
After serving at Tekoa for a few summers, I realized that my passions were in
ministry and teaching. I feel called to professional ministry, and I love working with
(but not exclusively) young people. I am excited about this opportunity to serve in
ministry while simultaneously getting a theological education at Dook. I enjoy
outdoor activities, sports, and spending time with friends and family.
I’m also very happy to tell you that my fiancée, Erin, will be joining me on
Sundays to volunteer with the youth group. Erin is finishing her education to
become a speech language pathologist, and we are planning to get married in May.
As we head into the new school year, please pray for God’s continued
presence, guidance and blessing upon these children and this ministry. I can see
God’s work in this group already, and I hope we all can continue to foster Christian
discipleship.
