Greetings!
School is almost out for the summer (sorry teachers I know you have a little more
left), bags are being packed for vacations and weekend trips, vacation Bible school is
around the corner and so are many other things. I want to share with you two awesome
God moments that happened lately with our weekday ministries.
In May, our Morris Chapel Preschool graduated 40 four year olds! A side note, out
of the 40 children three are from Morris Chapel, the others are from the community…
wonderful outreach ministry! For months they had been practicing their songs in the
chapel, which was a blessing to hear resonating down the hallway. They sang
everything from I have the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart (where!) down in my
heart to the Bible song (where they learned the books of the Bible). After spring break
they practiced their processional into the sanctuary for graduation night. After the dress
rehearsal the morning of graduation, one of kids asked me if I was coming to graduation
to play the video. I told him yes and I was coming to pray as well. He said, “cool!”
Then he proceeded to say, “Miss Sam, pray that we will sing good and have fun too and
that everyone will like it.” Then he looked at his class mates at the table and said, “ya’ll
have anything else to add?” They all shook their heads no. I told them absolutely I will
pray for your request. Wow, what a God moment! I walked back up the hallway
smiling with my heart full that the Spirit of God was illuminated through the hearts of
the children.
The other God moment happened today (which is Thursday the 6th of June), I have
shared in a past echoes article that I have been reading to the after school kids once a
week. One of the children in the program expressed that she didn’t believe in God. So,
I started going over to the fellowship hall once a week reading Dr. Seuss, chapter books,
and just talking with them. A few weeks ago, I bought a devotional called Jesus Calling
for kids (which I will be using for the summer day camp devotions); last week I read
them the daily devotional about the gift of time and what our time means to others and
to God. Today’s devotion was about finding God in all the details. The kids shared
with me about their favorite trees, losing a pet to losing a grandparent. The child, who
didn’t believe in God, spoke up today and stated she believes in God and the Bible. Her
favorite tree is the willow tree because it makes her feel safe. What an awesome God
moment! I left the fellowship hall with tears of happiness and a smile in my heart.
God is truly present and at work at Morris Chapel in all our ministries! What a
blessing and a joy it is to serve and be a part of this wonderful community of faith!
Grace and Peace, Samantha

Dear Morris Chapel Church Family,
The New Beginnings Sunday School class is very excited to share our first mission project with you and to also ask for your support of this project as well. We have chosen to Adopt-A-Wish
through our local Make-A-Wish Chapter. I'm sure everyone has heard of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but there are some things that we would like to share with you that you may not have
known.
A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their
life-threatening medical conditions.
97 percent of wish families and 96 percent of health professionals observe increases in wish
kids’ emotional health
89 percent of nurses, doctors, social workers and child life specialists combined believe that
the wish experience can influence wish kids’ physical health
74 percent of parents saw the wish experience as a positive turning point in the wish kids’
battle against their illnesses
Make-A-Wish is the largest wish-granting organization.
Our local chapter will grant 237 wishes between Sept. 1, 2012 - Aug. 31, 2013; they grant a
wish every 1 1/2 days.
Our chapter serves 51 counties and all the money raised in those 51 counties stays in our
chapter to grant wishes for the kids from these counties.
One wish costs approximately $6000.00 to grant.
Children with life threatening medical conditions between the ages of 2 1/2 and younger than 18
at the time of referral are eligible to be referred for a wish. Children can be referred by medical
professionals, parents, legal guardians, and themselves. The children's' imaginations are the
driving force in determining, designing, and coordinating the wish experience.
We hope that you have learned a few things about this awesome organization that you didn't
know before, but if you still need more information please contact Mallory Hutchins, Eric
Vanhoy, Betsy Wilson or Mary Jo Weavil. We will be placing collection boxes in each of the
Sunday School classrooms and hope that you will consider helping us make a wish come true for a
child that is suffering from a life threatening medical condition.

Church Fall Bazaar
The Wesley Circle is busy forming Bazaar
Committees and making plans for the Fall Church Bazaar.
Our chief gardeners, Bill & Pat Gordon are on schedule.
This will be a mammoth job for this Circle but with help
from the Jane Morris Circle UMW and church members,
this church-wide project can be accomplished! Your
generous efforts each year help make it successful!
Cooking and baking workdays will be on Monday
and Tuesdays (sometimes Wednesdays). Help is
needed this Weds, 6/12, at 8am in the FLC Kitchen to
work on squash casseroles and pickled beets. If you do
not like canning, help is also needed with craft items.
If you are willing to help in any way, you are needed
and welcome! We need to get started to be ready
by the date of the bazaar, Saturday, October 26, 2013.
Proceeds to be directed for the 2013 year:
$1,000 to Church Good Samaritan Fund
$1,000 to FLC Kitchen Fund
$500 to Fellowship Hall Fund
All remaining dollars will go to the New Bus Fund
after all bills are paid.
For information, please contact Lucille Ashburn
(595-2235) or any Bazaar Committee member.

Every year our VBS program designates a local and global mission initiative. This year we will be supporting Morris Chapel’s food pantry and items for the AGAPE Christmas shoe boxes. The participants who come to VBS will be encouraged to bring canned or boxed food that will be donated to our food pantry. The items for the AGAPE Christmas shoe boxes will be collected and later packed for shipping to Arme-nia. The country of Armenia does not allow Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child boxes to enter their borders. The AGAPE ministry of the United Methodist Church in North Carolina has partnered with a church in Armenia to bring supplies and a little Christmas to children who normally receive nothing.
The children and their shepherd leaders each night at Vacation Bible Sschool will visit the Mighty Missions Station which is being led by Tammy Younts. The children
will make encouragement cards for the Armenia shoe boxes and Operation Christmas Child; they will be making bookmarks for the children in Jamaica for their Bibles that the Children’s Council were able to obtain through Gideons International, they will visit our food pantry and make something that will go into the food bags and decorate blessing bags, lastly the children will be making a special gift for the families that visit our Gifts of Grace store around Christmas. Kingdom Rock VBS will be the hands and feet of Jesus spreading the Good News of the Gospel in Word and deed.
As part of the Morris Chapel family you can help in three ways:
- Pray for VBS and our missions - Bring canned or boxed food to support the food pantry - Supply some items for AGAPE Christmas boxes (containers will be around
church)
If you have any questions please speak with Sam. Thank you in advance!

Your Photos and favorite Scripture needed for Directory!
Do you have a photo that shows an event, missions, early history, or the fun we have as Morris Chapel? We'd love to include it in this year's directory. Please email your images to [email protected] with "Directory Photo" in the subject line and if needed a brief description in the subject
(especially for historical photos), or drop off physical photos to the Faith in Action classroom in an envelope marked "Directory Photos" with your name

June 30th in order to be included.
Also, if you have a favorite piece of Scripture, let us know that too. We will be interspersing various verses throughout the directory, and would love to
