EDITION 18 | FEBRUARY 2020

Welcome to the 18th edition of the Mortlake South Wind Farm Newsletter. This newsletter provides information and updates about the project. The Mortlake South Wind Farm is located approximately 5kms south of Mortlake and 7kms north of Terang, within Moyne Shire. ACCIONA looks forward to continuing a positive relationship with the local community as construction continues and we thank you for your interest in the project.

MORTLAKE SOUTH WIND FARM NEWSLETTER | EDITION 18 | FEBRUARY 2020 1

The project will produce 530Gwh of clean energy each year, which is enough to power about 115,000 homes annually. The construction phase will mean the creation of around 100 jobs, plus around 10 in the operational phase.

2020 is shaping up to be an exciting and productive year for the project, with many key milestones already achieved.

ACCIONA, alongside John Beever Australia, Connect Jobs and many local contractors, have done a great job with the civil works, including;

• Pouring all 35-wind turbine concrete foundations.

• Constructing 18kms of the access track network, which connects the wind turbines and allows vehicles and machinery to access to hardstands.

Project Update

• Upgrading 9.8kms of public roads, including widening Chamallak Lane and Grinters Lane, sealing 2.3kms of Tapps Lane, upgrading the bridge on Tapps Lane crossing Stony Creek, and improving the intersection of Terang-Mortlake Road and Tapps Lane.

• Fixing around 2,200 tonnes of steel within the wind turbine foundations and mixing approximately 22,000 cubic metres of concrete on site.

• More than 100,000 hours have already been completed in the project

The civil works are now coming to an end, with the final tidy up of the site being completed.

MORTLAKE SOUTH WIND FARM NEWSLETTER | EDITION 18 | FEBRUARY 2020 2

The focus over the coming months will be to continue the electrical works. RJE Global started the Medium Voltage (MV) reticulation works in January. These 33KV cables link the turbines to the onsite substation. The works will continue through until around May 2020.

Construction of the onsite substation on the corner of Tapps Lane and Chamallak Lane, is well underway. Completion is expected in July 2020.

The main power transformer will arrive on site in mid-February. This transformer is from Wilson Transformers in Melbourne.

Fire safety is a key focus for the Mortlake South Wind Farm. Prior to the bushfire season, the project engaged with local, group and district CFAs to ensure the site Bushfire Preparation and Emergency Management Plans were in accordance with CFA guidelines, and up

ACCIONA is partnering with Deakin University to develop virtual reality technology to help visualise the Mortlake South Wind Farm and future wind farms. The tool will enable community members to experience different turbine configurations and layouts, and listen to the projected turbine sounds, before the project is constructed.

This is one of the many projects that ACCIONA has partnered with Deakin. ACCIONA is also working with Deakin to create drone technology for wind turbine maintenance as well as entering into the World Solar Challenge race in 2021.

to date for the Fire Danger Period and days of Total Fire Ban. We have recently organised proactive onsite meetings with the local CFA, to ensure they are familiar with the wind farm site layout, available site resources and ACCIONA’s preparedness.

The first blade is expected to arrive on site in April, with delivery, installation and commissioning of the main turbine components to follow through until the end of the year.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their support and we look forward to continuing to work with you.

In light of the recent devastating effects on the Australian Bush Fires, ACCIONA is pledging financial support to the Red Cross, and is also identifying opportunities for employees to work with local communities to help participate directly in the rebuild process.

February 2020 – July 2020Underground Transmission Line Construction

Grid Connection

The contract to build the 220KV underground transmission line has been awarded to John Beever Australia with works planned to commence in February 2020. ACCIONA have received the planning permit for the 15km underground transmission line to connect the Mortlake South Wind Farm to the Terang Terminal Station.

Construction activities will commence from Tapps Lane within the Mortlake South Wind Farm construction area, with staged works progressing towards the Terang Terminal Station. You will notice traffic controls in place when works are occurring within the road reserves on Riley’s Road, Bramich Lane and Keilambete Road.

ACCIONA will continue to work closely with Moyne and Corangamite Shires to ensure traffic impacts are minimised. We have been consulting with local landowners along the route to ensure they are informed about the construction method and progress. To find the map of the 220KV underground transmission line route, please visit the website.

Local Jobs

The Mortlake South Wind Farm, during the civil works phase, have employed up to 120 people onsite daily. Through John Beever Australia and Connect Jobs, over 90% of these people have been from the local area and are doing jobs such as machinery oper-ators, labourers, creters and form workers.

The Mortlake South Wind Farm has provided the opportunity for local people to secure employment close to where they reside.

This project has stimulated the local econ-omy through the influx of people working on the project visiting the local businesses, most of which are retail or service based.

MEET CLIFF

Cliff is a South Purrumbete local who has been working on the Mortlake South Wind Farm as Telehandler/ Franna Operator. He has been working on and off in Melbourne for the last 15-20 years, so this project has been a welcome opportunity to work locally.Cliff hopes that new technology can be brought to the region and schools can be supported to teach local kids about different jobs in the industry.

MEET OLIVIA

Olivia is an experienced Document Controller who has worked with ACCIONA on the Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm project and now the Mortlake South Wind Farm. Olivia is a Warrnambool local, who has returned home after more than 10 years working in the mining industry in Western Australia. She has a dog named Lenny, loves hanging out with friends and having a laugh over a beer.

Small Grants & Sponsorship Program

MORTLAKE SOUTH WIND FARM NEWSLETTER | EDITION 18 | FEBRUARY 2020 4

Would your community organisation or group benefit from small grants/sponsorship funding? As part of our commitment for supporting local communities, ACCIONA is inviting community groups to apply for a small grant or sponsorship for projects and events in 2020. A total of $20,000 is available to assist local community groups who make a differ-ence by enhancing the social wellbeing and/or improving environmental, educational, culture or economic outcomes of the local community.

The Neighbourhood Benefits Program is a proximity payment, based on dwellings located within proximity bands from wind turbine generators. The payments are not made in cash – they are made via pre-loaded EFTPOS cards, known as Neighbourhood Benefits Cards.

This program shares the benefits of the wind farm with the people who live closest to the project, and also ensures money is spent within the local community at participating businesses in Mortlake, Noorat and Terang.

This program will continue annually for at least the next 10 years. If you live within 4kms of a wind turbine (own or rent the dwelling) and have not yet applied, please contact us. Also, if you are a business who would like to accept these cards via your existing EFTPOS machines, please let us know. There are currently 40 participating businesses across the 3 towns.

Look out for this sticker in the window of participating businesses in the program in Terang, Noorat and Mortlake!

Neighbourhood Benefits Program

Off Site Landscaping Program

Landscaping and visual screening is offered to owners of dwellings within 4kms of a wind turbine generator to help reduce the visual impact of the wind farm.

If you own an eligible dwelling within this area, please submit an expression of interest to receive a visual screening assessment
