OUR VISION
Dynamic volunteers working together to make a difference in diverse communiAes
OUR MISSION
M.O.S.A.I.C. Volunteers is a Muslim directed organizaAon within Canada created for conAnuous youth engagement, training, community building and charitable acAviAes
OUR OBJECTIVES
M.O.S.A.I.C. is a non-‐profit volunteer organizaAon. Its main goal is to provide opportuniAes for youth to obtain training and experience in a planned voluntary training program.
Our focus is to develop stronger Aes in the Muslim community while working and integraAng with the greater
community.
Since 2008, M.O.S.A.I.C. has been helping Muslims discover the spirit of volunteerism. In this short Ame it has already built roots into many of Calgary's most prominent
non-‐profit and community organizaAons. In the near future MOSAIC hopes to become an integral part of
Muslim idenAty and Calgary and help create a posiAve self-‐percepAon of Muslims, as well as improve their image and
integraAon in their respecAve communiAes.
About M.O.S.A.I.C.
As the M.O.S.A.I.C. ExecuAve team, we are privileged to honour excepAonal individuals in the community who make a difference and live up to M.O.S.A.I.C.’s legacy. It is because of
volunteers like you that MO.S.A.I.C. is able to conAnuously strive towards achieving its goal of serving the greater community of Southern Alberta. Over the course of the year, we have successfully connected 218 volunteers with over 50 volunteer events to contribute over 2,218 hours towards beVering the Calgary community! We graciously thank all the
volunteers for their efforts, and hope to give special recogniAon to those who go above and
beyond for their community.
Message from the Board
Kayla was affected by brain cancer when she was 15 years old. She went from being a high school student with dreams of going to college to being a cancer paAent with an uncertain future. The Teen Leadership program is important to her because she can give back to the community that has done so much for her. Through the program, Kayla has parAcipated in a housing project in El Savador and is here to share her story and how she is a true “Rising Star” herself!
The Rising Star Award is presented to a volunteer who showed great potenAal to be a future leader and role model. This volunteer has worked hard and moAvated his/her colleagues and friends and shows passion and dedicaAon toward beVering our communiAes

Myka began her career as a Speech Language Pathologist specializing in paAents recovering from head and neck cancers and before joining the Alberta Cancer FoundaAon served as ExecuAve Director of the InsAtute for ReconstrucAve Sciences in Medicine (ISRM). Myka holds both BSc and MBA degrees from the University of Alberta. We are excited to have such a great leader and visionary join us this year!
The Leadership Award is presented to the volunteer that has been extremely enthusiasAc and displayed a posiAve ahtude towards their peers. They are always ready to help with a new projects go above and beyond M.O.S.A.I.C.’s expectaAons

Raphael has served three successful terms as a student body representaAve at the University of Calgary. During his Ame at the University, he received his Bachelor’s degree in PoliAcal Science. He has served as an Arts representaAve, VP External and in his last year he proudly represented 26,000 students as President of the SU. Raphael truly knows how to inspire and encourage others to contribute their efforts to beVering their communiAes!
The Role Model Award is presented to the volunteer that has been successful in sehng an example for fellow volunteers. They moAvate others by showing constant enthusiasm. This person has truly exemplified what it means to be a role model

Mahdi is currently a PhD student studying leadership, moAvaAon, and organizaAonal development in the diverse Muslim communiAes across Alberta. He is currently a Cultural broker at OWN, an organizaAon that provides cultural brokerage services between Child and Family Services and the diverse Muslim communiAes in Calgary. This also involves community mobilizaAon and educaAon towards building stronger families. Mahdi is a prominent figure when it comes to youth services in the Muslim community and we are incredibly inspired by the work he does!
The Dedica%on Award is presented to the volunteer that has showcased true commitment to M.O.S.A.I.C. by donaAng the highest amount of hours from March 2013 to April 2014
