Vocabulary Definitions Shape: When lines meet to

enclose a space. Geometric (square, triangle, circle) Organic (irregular in outline)

Color: Hue is another word for color. Examples:

yellow, yellow-orange, blue-violet, green

Color spectrum: A band of colors produced when white light passes through a prism and is broken into separate wavelengths.

A color wheel shows the approximate visible spectrum arranged in a circle.

Vocabulary Definitions (cont.) Value:

The darkness or lightness of a surface

Depends on how much light a surface reflects

Space: The empty or open area

between, around, above, below or within objects

Shapes and forms are defined by space around and within them

Texture is perceived by touch and sight Examples: rough, silky, soft, smooth, jagged, hard

What We Will Be DoingCreating Your Own Mosaic1. Pick a simple topic – animal, person or a simple design

2. Lightly sketch your design on the black paper

3. Choose the colors of cut paper squares

4. Place the squares on the black paper to create your image

5. Leave a black border around each tile

6. After the squares are laid out, glue your pieces in place
