The Presentation of the Lord
February 1-2, 2020
Most Blessed Trinity Parish is a Christ-centered sacramental family, modeled after the love of the Trinity— the Father, Son and Holy Spirit—3 persons in 1 God. We are dedicated to grow in their love and continue the Great Commission of spreading the Gospel to all nations,

Ask Father Paul: “Wouldn’t our Sacrament of Anointing also belong on any Catholic list of the ways that Jesus takes away our sins?” Yes, it is an important one! I do apologize for failing to mention it two weeks ago when my homily focused on presenting such a list. There is much confusion about this Sacrament. People sometimes think that this is a Catholic form of faith healing instead of forgiveness. It is primarily about forgiveness, and only secondarily about any physical healing. To qualify to receive this Sacrament, the sick person must be a baptized Catholic old enough to have sinned, and have a heart open to re-ceiving forgiveness from God through a Catholic priest administering the oil. Deacons and laypersons are not allowed to anoint. There would be no Sacrament at their hands. Not every sickness qualifies either. Every per-son to be anointed must be physically weak enough, ei-ther by disease or old age, to be running a real risk of losing his or her physical life, even if that risk comes mainly from treating the disease. All by itself old age does not entitle a Catholic to be anointed. Let’s recall that some ninety-year olds are strong, as fit as a fiddle, while some teenagers are so sickly right now that, were they to fall over dead one day this week, those who know them best would not be shocked. For all of you who had missed my homily two Sundays ago because of bad weather, I’ll briefly rehearse other ways that “Jesus takes away the sins of the world,” the ways my homily explained. By His sacrifice on the Cross to make up for our sins and the sins of the whole world, He was like a sacrificial lamb. When God’s Kingdom encompasses the world, Messiah Jesus, like a humble male lamb who quickly grows into a strong ram, will cleanse the King-dom of all sinners who refuse to repent. Through the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, and Holy Communion, Jesus takes away the sins of the whole world, one person at a time. The One who baptizes through another human and absolves through the priest IS Jesus, Who is the Consecrated Host. Jesus forgives mortal sins as well as venial sins in Penance, but only venial sins on contact in Holy Communion, or prior to receiving the Host, through reciting the Lord’s Prayer, if not the earlier Pen-itential Rite. Each of these ways of forgiveness is Good News for us. Our Church declares all of them to be true!
Our Second Collection next weekend, February 8 and 9 is for Major Building Repairs.

FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT We now have a KID CARE CORNER. From time to time, a few local children are diagnosed with cancer or other very serious medical conditions. Sometimes their families face medical or housing or gasoline bills that their insurance companies do not cover. And so we have set aside a corner of the bulletin board in the vestibule of the Church in Tremont. We will post a picture, but safeguard confidentiality. So you can be informed, but without either last names or street ad-dresses. New children will be added now and then, in place of others. If God moves your heart to donate, please phone the rectory, or put your donation in the collection basket in an envelope marked with the child’s first name, and we will get it to the family.
