STARTED TRANSATLANTIC CRUISE
The building of Norwegian Breakaway was supported by theFederal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the federalstate of Lower Saxony with an aid for innovation for a ship typedesign and the first use of innovative components.
Following the handover, Norwegian Breakaway left the port ofBremerhaven in Lower Saxony, heading for Rotterdam.Following several inaugural events, she started her transatlanticcruise from Southampton to New York. On 12 May 2013 sheheaded to Bermuda for her seven-day cruises.

Norwegian Breakaway, 4,000 passengers capacity, is thefirst of two Breakaway class ships the Papenburg-basedshipyard is building for Norwegian Cruise Line (Miami,
USA). The vessel combines innovative design including TheWaterfront and 678 Ocean Place with three unique decks of dining, entertainment and more, along with the largest aqua parkand the largest ropes course at sea, along with the first ever saltroom in the luxurious spa. Norwegian Getaway, the sister ship, willlaunch in Miami on February 1, 2014.

Along with its new design, this luxury liner offers guests amultitude of special features and comfort: approximately 75% ofthe staterooms are outside staterooms, most of them with theirown balconies. The ship also includes staterooms designed andpriced for solo travellers, con-tinuing the tradition that began onNorwegian Epic, along with The Haven by Norwegian, a top-of-the-ship complex that pampers guests with a range of suites,private restaurant, lounge, covered pool area and sun deck.
“We set out to deliver a ship that would really stand apart andour collaboration with the Norwegian team has beenoutstanding,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner with MeyerWerft. “It’s quite an accomplishment to build a vessel of thissize and calibre in just 18 months.”

Norwegian Cruise Line took delivery of the 146,600 GT cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway from German
shipbuilder Meyer Werft after a building period of only 18 months. Extensive tests and trials of all systems
and intensive training of the crew kept everyone busy in the last weeks prior to the delivery in Bremerhaven.

39.7 m moulded breadth,8.30 m draught, 18 decks,speed of 21.5 knots,engine output of 62,400kW in total, propulsionpower of 35,000 kW. Shehas 4,000 passengerscapacity with 1,600 crew.The total length of laidcables is 2,154 km andthe total length of laidpipes is some 400 km.
SUCCESSFUL SEA TRIALS
Norwegian Breakaway,successfully completed hertechnical and nautical seatrials which took place offthe coast of Norway and Denmark. Over the course of severaldays beginning on March 25, Norwegian Breakaway underwenta series of stringent tests to assess various nautical and technicalelements, including the ship’s speed, maneuverability, and more.
In order to assess the ship’s speed, the Captain, navigationalofficers and representatives from the shipyard tested all of thevarious power outputs for the propellers. The speed was thenadjusted to various levels at each power output level.
To demonstrate the agility, the ship performed a “Williamson’sTurn,” to determine how well she would be able to turn around inthe event of an on board emergency. The “Zig Zag” test was alsoconducted to demonstrate the ship’s ability to rapidly maneuveraway from danger ahead, while still maintaining its forward course.
Norwegian Breakaway also executed a successful “TurningCircle” test that is conducted by powering the ship at full speedahead and then quickly turning on the azipods, the ship’spropulsion units, to monitor the behavior of the vessel. Whenconducting the Turning Circle test, a certain minimum diameteris required in order to prove the ship’s seaworthiness.
A “Crash Test” was also performed. This test is conducted byrunning the ship full steam ahead and then quickly reversing theazipods in order to assess the ship’s stoppage capabilities. Thestoppage is monitored in terms of time and distance andNorwegian Breakaway exceeded all of the standards set.
Finally, noise and vibration tests were performed to ensure thatthere is proper insulation between all staterooms, corridors andpublic areas. Wind levels on Norwegian Breakaway’s pool deckand The Waterfront, the ship’s outdoor dining and recreationalarea, were also assessed.
Norwegian’s nautical team reported that the conditions forNorwegian Breakaway’s sea trials were extraordinary, and thatthe ship successfully completed all of the very important testsand trials that were conducted.

Norwegian Breakaway,teknik testleri ve Norveçile Danimarka aç›klar›nda
gerçeklefltirilen seyir tecrübelerini baflar›yla tamamlad›. 25Mart’ta bafllayan ve birkaç gün devam eden süreçte gemi; h›z›,manevra kabiliyeti ve di¤er hususlar da dahil çeflitli seyir ve teknik unsurlar›n de¤erlendirilmesine yönelik bir dizi s›k› testleretabi tutuldu.
Geminin h›z›n› de¤erlendirmek için Kaptan, seyir zabitleri ve tersane temsilcileri ile birlikte pervanelere güç temin eden çeflitlitahrik sistemlerini test etti. Ard›ndan geminin sürati her bir güçseviyesinde farkl› düzeylere ayarland›.
Çevikli¤ini tespit etmek amac›yla “Williamson Dönüflü” testi ger-çeklefltirilerek, geminin acil bir durumda geri dönebilme kabiliye-ti denendi. Gerçeklefltirilen “Zikzak” testi ile geminin ileri yönelikseyrini muhafaza ederek tehlikeden uzaklaflmak için h›zl› manev-ra yapma kabiliyeti tespit edildi. Ayr›ca “Dönüfl Dairesi” ad› veri-len test de baflar›l› bir flekilde tamamland›. Tam h›zda seyir esna-s›nda azipodlar› devreye sokularak geminin davran›fl› gözlemlendi.Bu test esnas›nda geminin denize elverifllili¤inin gösterilmesi içingerekli belirli bir asgari çap›n söz konusu olmas› gerekiyor.
Bir “Çarpma Testi” de yap›ld›. Bu test, geminin tam h›zla seyirhalinde azipodlar›n h›zla geriye do¤ru devreye sokulmas› yoluylagerçeklefltiriyor ve geminin zaman ve mesafe aç›lar›ndan durmakabiliyeti de¤erlendiriliyor. Norwegian Breakaway tüm standarttestleri geçti.
Son olarak gürültü ve titreflim testleri gerçeklefltirilerek, tüm lükskamaralar, koridorlar ve ortak alanlar aras›nda uygun bir yal›t›molmas› temin edildi. Norwegian Breakaway’s havuz güvertesi veWaterfront ad› verilen aç›k yemek ve dinlenme alanlar›ndaki rüzgar seviyeleri de de¤erlendirildi.
