Electronic Cruise Control forMoto Guzzi Norge 1200 4V 2007-2009

The following provides a brief description of the power consumption and component locations of the MotorCycle electroniccruise control.

Installed weight of the cruise control is approximately 2.3kg.

Current draw while the cruise is switched on, but not engaged, is approximately 0.250 amp (3 watts). Current draw while the cruise isengaged is nominally 0.50~0.80 amp (6~10 Watts). By comparison, a head light bulb typically draws about 4 amps (55 Watts), and atail light bulb (running light) draws about 0.4 amp (5 Watts).

Refer to the line drawing on the back of this sheet to identify thecomponents from the numbers in the text.

The Computer (1) mounts under the seat, beside the battery. A foamblock is provided to mount the computer, but that is only forconvenience. It is not needed for vibration damping or any otherpurpose.

The Actuator or throttle servo (2) is mounted on the right side ofthe bike, just in front of the cylinder head. It is mounted on one of theignition coil mounting bolts. This photo shows the actuator with thefuel tank removed from the bike.

The photo below left shows the actuator viewed from the front of thebike inside the fairing.

The photo below right shows the actuator viewed from the side of thebike behind the fairing, past the right cylinder head.

The CIU (4) is located in the ‘V’ of the cylinders, slightly behind the right cylinder. The photo below left shows the CIU in positionwith the fuel tank and air filter housing removed from the bike. The photo below right shows the CIU from the right side of the bike, just visible behind the right cylinder. A new cable (5) connects it to the throttle bodies.

The Speed sensor (6) is mounted below the left hand front brakecaliper. The original caliper mounting bolt is removed and a new boltand spacer washers fitted to allows the speed sensor to the mounted.Nickel-plated magnets are placed in the heads of the bolts that mountthe brake disc

The Control Switch (7) is mounted on the left hand mirror stalk.

A vacuum hose assembly (3) is provided to connect the actuator to the engine.

The Wiring Harness (8) has the same type of plugs or terminals that are already used on the motorcycle. Power for the cruise controland brake sensing is taken off the brake light switches by unplugging the rear brake light switch. Matching connectors on the cruisecontrol loom are plugged in to the switch and the bike’s harness. Tach (engine speed) sensing is detected from the bike’s primaryignition circuit. This is used to disengage the cruise if the clutch is operated. The bike’s clutch switch is also connected to the cruisecontrol to disengage the cruise control. The cruise control is grounded on the battery negative terminal.
