DINO PAOLI S.r.l. was established in 1968 as spe-

cialised makers of pneumatic impact wrenches and

accessories. A leader in Italy, the company soon

started to reach out to foreign markets, especially

in Europe. High quality of products and services fast

gained them important credit with one of the most se-

lective and demanding customers, i.e. FORMULA 1,

supplied since 1975. This was the start of a long

Originally used in shops catering for private cars

and industrial machinery, PAOLI® impact wrenches

were credited as highly efficient pneumatic tools.

Great care to the smallest technical parts helped

obtaining optimum weight/power ratio and great re-

liability during operation. Considering these peculiar

features of his tools, Mr. Dino Paoli, the company’s

founder, decided to offer them to the most famous

and celebrated Italian team. “The idea - says Paoli

- came to my mind in 1975 while I was watching a

red racing car being serviced during a pit stop on

TV. I proposed my products and I was pleased to be

picked against an American competitor. Our part-

nership has been going on since then”. After that

happy start, a few other Formula 1 teams chose

PAOLI® impact wrenches for fast tyre change and

then all teams in Formula 1 were using them by the

early 1990s. Later on, other Formulas around the

world followed their example: the US teams from

INDY F. and CART F., the Japanese teams from NIP-

PON F., the Australian teams from V8-SUPERCAR

and several other European and extra-European

Formulas.

Inizialmente applicato nelle comuni officine per vei-

coli privati e industriali, fin dalle origini, l’avvitatore

PAOLI® si caratterizza come un utensile pneumatico

dalle elevate prestazioni, determinate da una note-

vole cura e attenzione al particolare tecnico anche

minuto, che ha portato ad un ottimale rapporto

peso/potenza e ad un elevato grado di affidabilità in

servizio. Furono proprio queste caratteristiche pecu-

liari a spingere il fondatore dell’azienda, Dino Paoli,

a proporre per la prima volta un modello PAOLI® al

più famoso e blasonato team italiano. “L’idea - dice il

Sig. Paoli - mi venne nel ’75, assistendo in TV ad una

sosta ai box di un bolide rosso. Proposi i miei prodot-

ti ed ebbi il piacere di essere prescelto vincendo la

concorrenza di una ditta americana. Da allora la col-

laborazione continua”. Dopo quel felice inizio, molti

altri team di Formula 1 decisero di affidare all’avvita-

tore PAOLI® le sorti del cambio gomme in velocità,

fino ad arrivare alla totalità dei team di Formula 1 nei

primi anni ’90. Da allora in poi, altre Formule in tutto

il mondo hanno seguito l’esempio della F.1: i team

Product Range and FunctionsState of the art in motorsport pit stop monitoring, the new DP4000 MG TSA applies patented high precision non-contact sensing technology to measure the angular rotations of the drive shaft and the torque energy that is transferred at every hammer-ing impact. Intelligent software in the onboard multiprocessor signal pro-cessing electronics combines the results of the two measure-ments: Absolute Torque Energy and Angular Rotations, to deter-mine when the wheel nut sits tight. Additional sensors determine when the tool is active or should go into power save mode.

The tool is delivered with a default operation mode, however. the PRAG Pit Stop Dashboard software (Windows PC interface) allows the user to make changes to critical operational param-eters used to trigger the tools bright LED display, to signal when a wheel-nut tightening process has been completed successfully. The PRAG Pit Stop Dashboard is used as the interface to the whe-el guns on board signal processing electronics. With this the user can optimize the guns LED trigger settings, view pit stop results and log pit stop data.

Product Range and FunctionsThe Torque Sensor System provides real time torque energy monitoring. A 0-5V output signal can be connected to any stan-dard thelemetry software for real time data monitoring and storage during a race. When pre-programmed amount of torque energy has been achieved (during the wheel fastening process) a set of bright leds will light up, informing the tool operator that the targeted energy transfer has been completed. This led trig-ger point can be set using the programming interface kit with included Windows based software.

The Torque Sensor System is ideal for training and quality control tasks, as well increasing safety when used during a mo-torsport race.

The Torque Sensor Retrofit-Kit is the ideal solution for upgra-ding an existing wheel gun from standard Paoli Wheel-guns into high-tech Torque Sensor Systems. The Retrofit kit comes with Integrated Torque Sensor and digital signal processor (DSP). When a pre-programmed amount of Tor-que-Energy has been achieved (during the wheel fastening pro-cess) a set of bright LEDs will light-up, informing the tool operator that the target energy transfer has been completed. This LED trigger point can be set by using the supplementary programming interface kit (MSP-1) with included windows based software.

The MSF-1, designed and developed by PRAG Torque And More GmbH in Germany, is a light weight, battery powered fastener tool used for fast front wing adjustment and assembly applications. It consists of a built in angle sensor and computerised controller allowing the user to define the exact number of partial or full turns required for various tuning require-ments. The value is set prior to the application using the adjustment knob and is shown on the display. Upon completion of the required revolutions a bright LED will indicate the completion of the process. Due to the tools accuracy, high speed and repeatability it is ideally suited for track side pit stop applications where saving time is crucial.

Example Application: Front Wing Adjustment - F1 Pit StopIf requested by the driver, the pit crew can make adjustments to the front wing, increasing or decreasing the down force of the car. To make this adjustment the pit crew needs to turn two screws on the front wing. With the MSF-1 the pit crew can easily set the tool to perform the adjustment to the driver’s requirements in the demanding timeframe of a Formula 1 pit stop window.

MSF-1, progettato e sviluppato in Germania da PRAG Torque And More, è un utensile leggero alimentato a batteria utilizzato per una veloce rego-lazione dell’alettone anteriore e per altre operazioni di assemblaggio. E’ composto da un sensore angolare integrato e di un controller elettronico che consentono all’utente di definire il numero esatto di giri (o frazioni di giro) richiesti dalle diverse esigenze di messa a punto. Il valore viene impostato prima dell’applicazione utilizzando la manopola di regolazione, ed è visualizzato su un display. Al termine delle rotazioni richieste un led luminoso indicherà il completamento del processo. Grazie alla precisione degli strumenti, all’alta velocità e alla ripetibilità, è ideale per applicazio-ni pit stop dove il risparmio di tempo è cruciale.

Esempio di applicazione: alettone anteriore - F1 Pit StopSu richiesta del pilota, il meccanico ai box può effettuare aggiustamenti sull’ala anteriore, aumentando o diminuendo la forza verso il basso della vettura. Per effettuare tale regolazione il meccanico deve agire su due viti dell’ala anteriore. Con MSF-1 il meccanico può facilmente impostare lo strumento per eseguire la regolazione in base alle esigenze del pilota nel tempo di un pit stop di F1.

L’Airjack LL-23 è il logico sviluppo del collaudato modello LL-21. É inoltre dotato di una valvola di sicurezza integrata che limita automaticamente la pressione del sistema. Nel caso di sovrap-pressione, provocata ad esempio da danni all’attrezzatura o ad un uso non corretto, la valvola ripristina la pressione del sistema scaricando l’aria in eccesso dal coperchio inferiore (dai 55 bar fino ai 40 bar). Avendo poca inerzia dei rulli e facendo lavorare il freno si possono ottenere i dati reali di funzionamento del motore e curve precise e ripetibili.

DESCRIZIONECabina insonorizzata realizzata a progetto in base al sito di installazione ed alle specifiche richieste. La legislazione vigente non vincola all’installazione dei banchi prova all’interno di cabine insonorizzate, ma qualora si faccia un utilizzo in-tensivo del banco prova si consiglia vivamente di inserirlo all’interno di una cabina. L’attenzione posta nell’assemblaggio della struttura e la qualità dei ma-teriali garantiscono elevati livelli di abbattimento del rumore generato dal veicolo al suo interno. Questo consente la totale convivenza del banco prova con qualsiasi am-biente di lavoro e residenziale circostante. La struttura è ampiamente personalizzabile; ad esempio è possibile cre-are ampie vetrate sceniche a corredo di una sala di attesa/accettazione attraverso le quali il cliente può apprezzare l’elevato valore tecnologico e professionale posto al servizio della propria vettura. La cabina è provvista di impianto di ventilazione opportunamente di-mensionato per consentire un corretto ricambio di aria al suo interno ed allontanare il pericolo di raggiungere temperature elevate che falsano i risultati dei test effettuati sul banco. La cabina è fornita chiavi in mano comprensiva di impianto elettrico, illuminazione e quadro elettrico per il comando dell’impianto.

Under current legislation the installation of chassis dynamometers within sound-insulated cabins is not obligatory, but with intensive use of this equipment, the installation within a cabin is highly recommended. The care taken when assembling the structure and the quality of the materials guarantee high levels of noise reduction. This allows the dyno to coexist with any surrounding working or resi-dential environment. The structure can be customized in many ways; for example, extensive glazing can be produced to complement a waiting room/reception so that customers can appreciate the high standard of technology and pro-fessionalism employed on their car. The cabin is equipped with a suitably sized ventilation system to allow correct internal air exchange and minimize the risk of reaching high tem-peratures which distort the results of the tests carried out at dyno. The cabin is a turnkey product; supply includes electrical system, ligh-ting and electrical system control panel.
