History
Thiagarajar College, founded on 7th
July 1949, was formally inaugurated on 12th
October
1949 by His Excellency, the King of Bhavnagar, the then Governor of Madras State. The
college is a private, aided, co-educational institution affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University.
It is managed by Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar Memorial Trust. The motto of
the college is "mwpTk; md;GNk rptk;” which means "Wisdom and love embody the divine".
The college was upgraded as an autonomous institution in 1987. It was first accredited
with Five Stars by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2001 and
was re-accredited with 'A' Grade in 2007 and again re-accredited with 'A' Grade in the third
cycle by NAAC w.e.f. January 2013. NAAC has extended the validity of Accreditation period
from 5 years to 7 years in respect of high performing institution.
This premier institution is run entirely as a charitable non- profit institution.

1. Applications for admission for the academic year 2019-2020 will be made available
ONLINE (https://www.tcarts.in) from the date of publication of +2 results of Tamil Nadu
State Board.
2. The Eligible candidates have to register and submit the filled-in application through
ONLINE MODE only. They need not submit the downloaded hard copy of the application
in person / by Post.
3. Applicants may contact the college office on 0452-2311875 or write to
admission @ tcarts.in for any clarifications.
4. Applicants should use the computer-assigned application number in all future reference.
5. Only successfully registered applications will be considered for admission process on
payment of application fees.
6. Applications with incorrect and incomplete information will be rejected.
7. Admission will be based on the prescribed eligibility criteria of the programme applied.
Therefore, applicants must clearly specify the subjects taken in their qualifying
examination.
8. Dates specified on the provisional selection notification should be adhered to, strictly.
Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the offer of admission.

12. The list of students provisionally selected for different courses will be uploaded on the
College website.
13. Call-for letter will be intimated via SMS. The student can log into the portal, download the
call -for letter, take a printout and come for the interview.
14. The original certificates ought to be submitted at the time of Admission only
Applicants shall submit the following Original certificates along with fees at the time of
Admission.
1. Hr. Sec.(+2) Examination mark statement for UG / First five semester mark statements
of UG for PG / First three semester mark statements of PG for M.Phil. Programmes.
2. Transfer Certificate and relevant certificates for special quota applicants.
3. Conduct Certificate issued by the Head of the Institution / Principal of the college last
studied.
4. Community Certificate in case of Backward Class / Most Backward Class / Scheduled
Caste / Scheduled Tribe students.
5. Attendance Certificates from the Head of the Institution last studied in case of
candidates who wish to apply for scholarships.
Other Information
The Principal reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate without
assigning any reasons whatsoever. Should there be any material discrepancy between the
certificates and the entries in the applications or should any material suppression of facts be
discovered such applications will be summarily rejected.
Fees once paid will not be refunded after the commencement of classes
Accommodation in the college hostel is limited. Separate application for admission to
hostel should be addressed to The Warden, Thiagarajar College Hostel, Madurai, in the
prescribed form (which will be issued by the hostel office only after gaining admission to the
college).

Special Quota
I. Special Quota for Outstanding Sports Persons
3% of seats in UG Programmes and 2% of seats in PG Programmes are reserved
for outstanding sports persons.
II. Special Quota for NCC Cadets
One seat in UG for ‘A’ Certificate holders and one seat in PG for NCC Cadet of
outstanding merit with ‘C’ Certificate holders
III. Special Quota for Ex-Service men / Tamil Students of Andaman and
Nicobar
Six seats in UG Programmes and three seats in PG Programmes are reserved for
the children of Ex-service men.
Two seats shall be reserved in UG course in Tamil medium for the students of
Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar.
IV. Special Quota for Differently Abled Students
Out of the Quota of 31% intended for OC, 50% (30% for BC and 20% for
MBC/DNC) for BC and MBC/DNC, 19% (18% for SC and 1% for ST) for SC and ST, 5
out of every 100 seats shall be reserved for Differently abled persons respectively.

The Fine Arts Club, Rotaract Club,

Library
The general library and the department libraries
have more than 1,05,000 books on various subjects.
They have a rare collection of ancient books both in
Tamil and English. The periodical section has back-
volumes of journals in all disciplines. The library has
subscribed at about 100 periodicals and almost all dailies, weeklies, fortnightlies, 60 Talking
Books (Ro-talk-audio cassettes) and 300 audio resources for visually-challenged students.
Students are encouraged to borrow books on lending basis from general library for a stipulated
period of time and also they can browse internet at free of cost.

The College is associated with organisations like National Taipei University of Technology,
Taiwan, Birla Institute of Technology, Goa Campus, M. S. Chellamuthu Trust, Madurai, IICT,
Hyderabad, AIRC, Chennai, ICWAI, Calcutta and CECRI, Karaikudi for research and with PARD,
Madurai, AKASH, Madurai and Rotary International, USA for outreach programmes. The college
has adopted Puliankulam Village for carrying out all the extension activities. The Department of
Economics receives studentship grants from M&EA Trust, Department of Econometrics, University
of Madras to undertake PG Projects. The Department of Chemistry offers consultancy services to
FTIR, UV and water analysis as well as Molecular Modelling to the students, teachers, researchers
and industries in Tamil Nadu.
Association with illustrious Organizations:
Our College is a part of the cluster colleges selected by the Confederation of Indian Industry
(CII), New Delhi for sharing of faculty and technical resources. Indian Council of Medical Research
(ICMR), New Delhi, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic
Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam and Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), Madurai are some of the
organisations with which the college is associated for Research and Development.
The college is also associated with organisations like Rotary International USA, and
Institute of Charted Accountants of India. The college is closely connected with Indian National
Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage INTACH) and Young Indians (YI) Forum of Confederation of
Indian Industry (CII), and Youth Club of Soroptimist International, Madurai.

An MoU was made between the college and M/s. Hipro Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Chennai for Office
Automation Software
An MoU was made between the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) and Alagappa
University, Karaikudi for scientific research activities, personal training in the field of
biopolymers, bioplastics, bio based material and environmental microbiology on 27.06.2018.
An MoU was made between the college and M/s. Kalvi Institute for Tally Training programme.
An MoU was made between the college and M/s. Developing Library Network, JNU Campus,
New Delhi to use DELNET’s archives and services on 23rd
October 2018.
An MoU was made between the college and Innovative HR & Training Services Pvt. Ltd.,
Chennai for specific training on quantitative aptitude, reasoning and verbal ability programme.
