Hylton Wright celebrated his 85thbirthday on two different occa-

sions during the weekend. On Fridayevening his wife, Betty, and their daugh-ter, Tamra Thomas, and son-in-law, Ron-nie, of Winston-Salem, entertained hisgolf buddies and business associates witha dinner at the pavilion at Cross CreekCountry Club.

Music was provided by Janet Dorsettwith the group joining in to sing “HappyBirthday” to the honoree.

A golf theme included a putting contestwith Don Matthews as the winner.

On Saturday evening Hylton celebratedhis birthday in the fellowship hall of Hay-more Baptist Church with his family andchurch members.

Tim and April Norman catered the bar-becue meal.

Ten contestants competed in a dart con-test with Tim Norman as the winner.

Gayle McCrary sang a medley of songsand was accompanied by Janet Dorsett atthe piano.

Birthday cakes were cut and served atboth of the celebrations.

The fathers and daughters arrive at the Trinkle Mansion.Fathers of Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church took their daughters on a re-cent trip to Wytheville, Va., to stay at the Trinkle House Bed and Breakfast Man-sion where they were treated like queens. They were served fine foods and thenattended the performance of “The King and I” at the Wohlfahrt Dinner Theatre.The young ladies later received engraved plaques for reciting passages fromProverbs 31 and then were taken shopping the next day. Woman’s Club sends giftsto Children’s Center

The Woman’s Club of Mount Airy hosted Joan Coiro of theChildren’s Center of Surry at their May meeting.

Joan talked to the club members about the services and needsof the children staying at the center. Club members presentedJoan with a large basket full of toiletry items and healthy snacksfor the children.

The Woman’s Club of Mount Airy is one of three GeneralFederation of Woman’s Clubs of North Carolina active inMount Airy. Wendy Carriker is the local club president.

GFWC is an international organization of community-basedwomen’s clubs, which has been working for over 110 years toaddress the most pressing needs of their communities and theworld. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
