Celebrating the new school additionsin the Mount Ayr Community School District

The future looks bright and our commit-ment to the students of the Mount Ayr Com-munity is second to none.

On behalf of the Board of Education, ourentire staff, and everyone associated with

the Vote OK Committee, I would like tosincerely thank the Mount Ayr Commu-nity for their incredible support during thebuilding project.

The Mount Ayr Community School Dis-trict evaluated its facilities in 2006 andbegan a two-year campaign to modernizeand equip our schools for the 21st century.Staff members were involved in the needsassessment and began looking at what wasneeded to provide a quality education forthe students of our district.

Building codes, handicapped accessibili-ty, structural issues, plumbing and electricaldeciencies all contributed to the need forthe renovation and new facility. With thecompleted project, both buildings are nowcompletely heated and cooled with the useof geothermal ground source heat pumps.In addition, new energy technologies wereinstalled to make the new facilities as en-ergy efcient as possible.

The secondary addition will allow for in-creased middle school physical educationand allow exibility for increased academ-ic time. Our middle school students willno longer have to walk to the elementaryschool to practice and compete. It will also

provide greater academic access for our al-ternative school students who will now beserved in the new addition of our secondarybuilding.The elementary addition will providemodern fth and sixth grade classrooms, aseparate lunchroom and kitchen, a multipur-pose gym, a vocal music classroom and anew ofce area. Renovations to our existingstructure will provide the elementary build-ing with a new art room and an early child-hood classroom. We are very excited aboutthe new Peggy Whitson Science Lab. Thedistrict has received over $50,000 in grant

money to outt one of the most remarkableelementary science labs in the state.

Education is ever-changing and with theneed for modern technology in the class-room, the district can now boast a completewireless capability for our one-to-one lap-top program, computer labs and staff. It is
