FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parent and Carers,

Last Sunday, many children, parents and staff worked together at the Busy Bee to improve the school grounds. Despite the hot weather we weeded, trimmed, mulched and raked. It was dirty, hot work but the results are amazing. Students who helped at the busy bee were awarded ten tokens towards a Star Award for their act of school service. Special thanks to the P&C Association for providing the mulch and organising the sausage sizzle and icy poles.

Reporting to Parents

Teachers are currently writing reports for students in compulsory years of schooling: pre-primary to year 6. The Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline includes achievement standards for each learning ar-ea. Teachers determine a grade based on student achievement against the standards.

The progress and achievement of some students with a special educational need will be reported in an alternative format that better meets their needs.

Reports will be sent home to parents on Monday 14 December. In circum-stances of shared custody, if parents require more than one school report please advise your class teacher. Reports not collected due to early vaca-tions will be posted to parents.

Classes for 2016

Student enrolments have been fluctuating and this affects the one line budget and staffing. In 2016, seven classes will be maintained. Teachers for each class will be confirmed shortly. A separate note will be sent home to parents when class structures are confirmed.

When structuring classes careful consideration is given to educational needs, gender, class sizes, friendships, social and emotional needs.

At Mount Claremont Primary School the students know each other. If they are not in the same class in 2016 please remember they will still play to-gether at recess, lunch time and after school.

The last few weeks of school are very busy and I look forward to the Gradu-ation, End of Year Assembly and Kindy Concert. It’s lovely to see the chil-dren shine!

The MCPS Junior Swim Carnival is coming up on Wednesday 16th December (week 10) at the Bold Park Aquat-ic Centre starting at 1pm and concluding at around 2:15pm. The carnival is for all Pre Primary - Year 2 students and will include a number of novelty events along with Freestyle and Breaststroke events for those who are will-ing. Thank you to the parents who have offered to assist in the pool, we still need a few more helpers so please email myself if you're able to help out. Hope to see you there.

Kind Regards,

Dance

For the last seven weeks students from Pre-primary to Year Six have been taking dance lessons and learning a

variety of dances in different styles. Their final lesson will be Wednesday, 25th November. Tonight from 6:00 –

7:30 we will have our Dance Social so the students can show off their skills. The social takes place in the under-

cover area. Students need to be seated with their classes by 5:55pm so we are ready to start promptly at

6:00pm. Look forward to seeing you all there.

MUSIC

Mount Claremont’s Got Talent, Thursday, 26th November

The Grand Final is finally here!! This Thursday 26th November!! Due to the large amount of finalists, we will be commencing at the earlier time of 12:50pm so we can finish by the end of the school day at 3:05pm. Times are approximate and subject to change. The show will be hosted by Year 6 students, Paris and Audrey and we will have a panel of judges made up of students and teachers. Other year 5 and 6 students who are not performing have been given other roles such as stage hands, photographers, decorators/setting up, results tallying, packing away after, newsletter reporter, and PA.

The MCGT junior section (K – yr2) will run first and at the conclusion each finalist will be presented with a certifi-cate of participation by Mrs Oakes. There will also be first place and runner up certificates presented for the jun-ior section. The senior section (years 3 - 6) will then commence and at the conclusion the senior students will al-so be presented with certificates of participation by Mrs Oakes. There will also be first place and runner up certifi-cates presented for the senior section. I expect each section to run for 45mins to an hour. Please see the at-tached MCGT Program to see the order in which your child/children will be performing.

Important Note: All finalists in the senior section (years 3 - 6), need to be at school at 8:00am on Thursday (the morning of MCGT) and meet Mrs Buchanan in the undercover area for a run through with stage hands, hosts and PA and music captains to help ensure the afternoon show runs as smoothly as possible. The finalists in the junior section do not come to the 8am rehearsal!! The junior students will be guided to where they need to stand as they are called out for their performance in the afternoon.

I have told all performers they can wear something other than their uniform for the MCGT finals. It doesn’t need to be fancy – just something that suits their performance. Performers will need to wear their school uniform to school and get changed into their performance outfit at lunchtime.

All parents, family and friends are invited and encouraged to attend this event. Please bring your own refresh-ments and don’t forget to bring your camera!! There will be quite a variety of acts for your entertainment!!

Choir Rehearsals

Reminder: it is very important that all choir members attend all rehearsals for the rest of this term; Thursdays during school hours (30mins straight after lunch) and Friday mornings before school from 8am until 8:40am, in the music room. We only have 5 rehearsals left with the 5th being a final run through on the morning of the Graduation!! We are preparing 2 songs for the Graduation Ceremony on Friday 11th December and the End of Year Assembly

and Book Awards on Tuesday 15th December.

If you have any enquiries please feel free to contact me. My email address is: [email protected]. I work at MCPS on Thursdays and Fridays.

JAPANESE CULTURE DAY

Next Tuesday we will hold Japanese Culture Day for students from year one to year six. Staff will be offering a range of activities for students—from shodo (calligraphy), drawing manga characters and origami to Japanese Dodge ball and painting Japanese fans and dolls. Time constraints mean that each student joins in three activi-ties but they will all be enjoyable and educational. (There is no cost to parents—unless you have ordered a Jap-anese lunch.)
