The actual sale will be held Saturday afternoon in our sale barn facility immediately adjacent to the open lots. A sale day lunch will be prepared and provided by the members of the Gettysburg Stars and Stripes Sale group.

Welcome to Gettysburg!

It is that time of the year again to hook up the truck and trailer, pack up the family and head to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. I know that I say this every year, but if you don’t attend any sales this spring make plans to come to the Stars and Stripes. The consignors of the Stars and Stripes roll out the hospitality of Simmental genetics, food, and fellowship to make in one to remember. Tom & Barbara Vossler always roll out the red carpet, and are the perfect hosts for this special event. The Stars and Stripes Sale has a lot to offer. No they might not have numbers of some sales, but they have a diverse offering. Since the sale is held in May the Stars and Stripes group are able to offer more bred cows and pairs. For the past several years these are always a sale highlight. Don’t forget that this might be your last chance to purchase an open female for summer junior events such as the regionals and the junior national which will be hosted in conjunction with the Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes in Louisville. I encourage you to study the catalog and visit with the Stars and Stripes breeders, they know their cattle and stand behind their product 100%. The breeders involved have had great success in the northeast exhibiting and marketing their genetics at various shows, sales, and events. This group is dedicated to raising good cattle, and helping their customers succeed with their purchases. The Gettysburg area is the perfect backdrop in the spring to bring together Simmental genetics and the history of the United States. Plan to arrive early to take in everything that this area has to offer. Not to mention the award-winning Friday afternoon tour by Dr. Carol Reardon followed by drinks and appetizers on the porch overlooking the sale offering. We appreciate all that Tom & Barbara do to assist with the success of the sale each and every year. The Stars & Stars group works hard to make their sale a great experience. DP Sales and the consignors will work hard to make sure everyone gets taken care of no matter if you are in Gettysburg, or bidding online through DV Auctions. Please feel free to call anyone involved with the sale concerning questions about the offering or arrangements. We look forward to seeing you in Gettysburg!

Sincerely,

DP Sales Management

• American Honey is among the most stylish fall heifers we have ever produced. She has all the right parts put together in just the right design. Honey is sound in her structure, pleasing in her phenotype, and emanates from the incomparable Diva cow family. When it comes to re-productive performance her dam never misses a beat. To date 77U has calved from 9/3 to 9/14 always settling on the first AI service! 77A was born to wear a leather halter and later become a productive brood cow. • Longevity coupled with cow families is the basis of success in the registered seed stock business. Abby’s dam is one of not more than two daughters of the immortal Nichols Joliette 107W cow that in turn is the grandam of the incomparable WAR Diva. You will notice that Abby 73A is double bred , line bred to the 107W cow. Line breeding can be most beneficial to quality cattle in that you will stage a positive “genetic explosion” when mated to an outcross sire. Abby is no disappointment in type and kind, soundness and structure. She has all the makings of yet another very productive member of the prolific family. Over the course of his show career her sire, CLO captain America 704Y made quite a name for himself as Supreme Champion Bull at the 2014 KILE show over all breeds and Senior Champion bull at the 2014 NAILE. Captain America is now owned with Slate Farms of Vanleer, TN. Enough said, This is a good one! OCV, BVD-PI Negative. Small scurs and homozygous black.Consignor: CLO Simmentals

• Angel Eyes 74A gained a lot of attention during her first outing at the KILE last all when she and her dam were named Reserve Champion cow/calf pair, from their she won the Spring Calf class in her only time show. Not bad for a rookie. Her dam 174D was born in late July, 2009. 174W has had the following calving record: 5/11/11, 4/10/12, 3/2/13 and 1/31/14. This is reproductive performance at it’s apex. Angel Eyes is most bold sprung, capacious daughter of Duracell that we have produced thus fa. She is a low maintenance, high return efficient brood cow prospect. Whether you choose to continue to show her or simply turn out to be a valuable member of your cow herd Angel Eyes 74A will not disappoint on any level. Her genetic profile reinforces her phenotype. • Please take special not of Ashley’s unique pedigree. Few young sires in recent times have created the excitement of creating as many high quality, high selling progeny as W/C Wide Track has done in first calf crop during this winter and early spring. When this young sire was coupled CLO Shasta 129S. One would expect really good results. Why you may ask? The reason being that Shasta is a flush mate to other notables as Entourage, MoCo & Shania and a maternal sib to Radience…All National Champions! Few cows come with as much mass and volume as Ashley’s dam. Ashley herself should have a bright future as both a show heifer and future donor. If you haven’t already guessed, I fell Ashley is a whale of an outstanding female that can make an excellent contribution to any herd, bar none. • The female represents a limited opportunity to directly access one of the great proven cow families within the Simmental breed…WAR Diva M704. Zephyr 9Z is all about being a cow. With excellent strutter, soundness and correctness she is hard to fault. As her photo indicates she is extremely longer bodied, with that comes a long, angular feminine front one third. There clean joints and sound big foot would indicate she will have a long productive live. The maternal strength of her dam should shine strongly as 9Z goes into production. Gettysburg...A name widely known in U.S. and World history. In the third year of the American Civil War, 90,000 Northern soldiers and 75,000 Southern soldiers, 72,000 horses and mules and the crews of over 600 cannon met in mortal combat in three days of battle. This was the largest battle ever conducted on the North American continent, one of the pivotal battles in the American Civil War and a defining moment in the history of the United States of America.

Attractions: While the Confederate invasion of the north was turned back by the Union victory at Gettysburg, not all was lost for the Confederacy in the overall campaign. During the nearly four weeks the Confederate Army spent north of the Potomac River among the highly productive farms of Maryland and Pennsylvania, Confederate soldiers “liberated” nearly 24,000 head of cattle, 22,000 head of sheep, and thousands of hogs from the northern farms and drove the livestock south of the Potomac River into Virginia. Hundreds of wagons loaded with forage and food from the northern farms were also sent south during that time.

• Honey Bear is an easy-keeping first calf heifer with plenty of thickness, depth, and capacity. She will be the type of hard working cow that we have built our herd around. Soundness easy-fleshing ability, plenty of milk, and great dispositions are some of the traits that run deep and strong in this cow family-- just ask Messick Farms, they bought a maternal sister (PVSM Honey Bump) to Honey Bear in 2005, and have been very pleased with her. PVSM Honey Bear sells with a solid black bull calf at side.

• Sunnys Delight is solid red star faced cow. She reminds me alot of the red heifer we sold here two years ago that topped this sale for $9000 to Damar farms in WI. She has a big stout hip, good rib shape and an abundance of muscle. She always seems to pass these great qualities on to her off spring. Last year we showed a beautiful Built Right daughter out of Sunny that was Grand Champion at the 2013 PA State Farm show, along with numerous other shows. She was admired by all that saw her. Selling at the side of Sunny is a solid red star faced heifer calf that is a full sister to the Many time Champion Star. She is the next “Star” in the making!!

We purchased her from the Family Traditions sale as an open heifer and has become one of our top producing cows. She has produced high selling heifers at the Virginia Beef Expo and Stars and Stripes sales. She combines eye appeal and performance in a stout structurally correct package. Her heifer calf is certainly easy on the eyes, and should have a productive future. Everything is right in this 3 in 1 package. Both females are baldies.

This cow family has stood the test of time and many of the breed greats trace back to her including WAR Diva, HWK Kashmere, Sheza Lady J900, Sheza China Doll, Sheza Dandy Too, Sheza Beauty L901, Sheza Star N902, Sheza Fantasy N906, and many, many more. T4017 is big footed, wide topped, soft made, and flexible on the move. She averages over 8 embryos per flush, and although she has been stingy with heifer calves, her bulls have been very well received in our Bulls of the Big Sky sale, averaging over $5,000/hd. GETTYSBURG. A name widely known in U.S. and World history. In the third year of the American Civil War, 90,000 Northern soldiers, 70,000 Southern soldiers, 72,000 horses and mules, over 600 cannon, met in mortal combat in three days of battle. This was the largest battle ever conducted on the North American continent. The battle was conducted over 6,000 acres of approximately 38 separate farms surrounding the town of Gettysburg.

Mountain View Farm, host farm for the Gettysburg Stars and Stripes Sale, sits less than two miles from the battlefield. The Stars and Stripes Sales Group is pleased to offer a complimentary tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield as part of this year’s sale.

Tour leaders again this year are Dr. Carol Reardon of Penn State University and sale host Colonel Tom Vossler. Carol is also co-owner of two of the producing dams in the Mountain View Farm herd. Carol and Tom are both military historians who specialize in history of the American Civil War. In 2013 their book on the Battle at Gettysburg entitled A Field Guide to Gettysburg was published by the University of North Carolina Press. The tour Tom and Carol will lead will include a lot of what is in their book. The tour will also include visits to the state memorials of Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York.

To reserve your space(s) on this popular battlefield tour, call Tom or Barbara Vossler at 717-337-1615. If no answer to your call, leave a voice mail with your name and headcount for the tour. The tour will depart the sale barn on Friday, May 4th at 1:00 pm and will last about two and one-half hours giving you plenty of time to view the cattle prior to the social hour at the farm house at 5:30 pm.
