Melissa Ferrick is back - with her first self-produced album since 2004, 'the truth" is a raw, rootsy record set to a

sweeping Americana/alt-country soundtrack that lay-ers pedal steel guitars and background harmonies into some of the lushest, brightest songs of her 20-year ca-reer. Melissa, an eight-time Boston Music Award winner and signed with NY-based MPress Records and released Still Right Here (2011). The album debuted on Billboard's Heatseekers Album Charts, won an 8th annual Interna-tional Acoustic Music Award (IAMA) and garnered two Independent Music Award (IMA) nominations.

Rusted Root, the multi-platinum sextet out of Pitts-burgh, evolved around front-man Michael Glabicki’s dis-tinct sound and grew into a musical entity that has thrived in a non-genre specific category all its own. In addition to the two decades with Rusted Root, Glabicki is exploring new sounds and opening new doors with his solo carrer. Glabicki currently routes his solo tours around the Rusted Root schedule, and he is also working on a brand new solo album that is scheduled for release in 2014. His solo dates and new music are extensions of his creative talent, and will inspire all those who participate.

Middle PAC to Show Sundance Film About Nuclear Power

COURT HOUSE - In keep-ing with its goal to pres-ent entertaining as well as thought-provoking films rarely shown in this area, the Performing Arts Cen-ter of Middle Township will turn to the serious subject of nuclear power when it continues its “Monday Night At The Movies Series” on its big screen March 24 at 7 p.m. at the PAC.

“Pandora’s Promise,” directed by Oscar nomi-nee Robert Stone, is a

groundbreaking film that addresses the question of how we will continue to power modern civilization without destroying it. The full-length feature film was shown at the Sundance Film Festival where it was an audience favorite. It tells the intensely personal stories of environmental-ists and energy experts whose views on the subject have changed from anti to pro--nuclear energy. Stone addresses this controversy among environmentalists with stories of defections by some of the move-ment’s leaders.

Kay AspelL , managing director of The PAC, said the film is informative and emotional and raises inter-esting questions about the future and past of nuclear power. It is being present-ed in conjunction with Pro-Media Advertising of Mid-dle Township which also is co-sponsoring the series that extends on alternate Monday nights into May.

Tickets are $8 and may be ordered by calling 609-463-1924 or purchased at the PAC box office. The Per-forming Arts Center is situ-ated at 212 Bayberry Drive, Court House, one mile east of exit 10 of the Garden State Parkway. There is free parking on the premises.

This week's drink of the week is a North Wildwood classic. A true representative of Irish roots, Westy's Celtic Lemonade has been a fan favorite for years. This Westy's signature cocktail does the trick every time and is made with only the finest Ireland-made liquors. First, Westy's starts with Celtic Honey Liqueur. Derived from a liqueur recipe that dates back to the Ancient Celts, Celtic Honey is said to bring luck to those who drink it. Its secret recipe includes 100% Irish honey, whiskey, spring water, and bo-tanicals, and its sweet, smooth taste works wonders in Celtic Lemonade.

Next, Boru Irish Vodka, otherwise known as "The Vodka of Kings", is added to the Celtic Lemonade concoction. It is made in Ireland from the "finest local grain and pris-tine Irish spring water." Its five-time distillation process produces a vodka of unusual clarity and exceptional smoothness. It is said to finish with a "pleasantly linger-ing warmth", which may account for the feel-good after-taste of this Westy's signature. Last but certainly not least, Country Time Lemonade gives Celtic Lemonade its sweet, citrus base for these fine Irish liquors.

Snag a tall glass of this Westy's classic for yourself at Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 pm. It's a great way to wash down the half priced appetizers. Other Happy Hour highlights include $2 domestics and $2.50 well drinks. To Ireland!

'Peter Pan the Musical' Flies onto LCMR Stage

Imagine a world like nothing you’ve ever seen, where every day is an ad-venture and where you never have to grow up. That’s the world of Pe-ter Pan ---the clanking of swords of furious rivals, the quivering plank of the “Jolly Roger,” the magical power of a hidden kiss, the sparkles of pixie dust, pi-rates, and oh yes, an alliga-tor that ticks.

Aimed at the young, and the young-at-heart, the story of Peter Pan and Wendy is filled with whim-sical spirit as the cast of

Lower Cape May Regional High School re-tells the ad-venturous journey to Nev-erland and back.

Come fly with us to Nev-erland for a swashbuckling epic that delivers non-stop action, spell-binding music and great choreography. This is a story so magical, it actually takes flight.

The smash hit musical adaption of J.M. Barrie’s classic story is a perennial favorite for all ages from 4 to 104. It will be presented at the Paul W. Schmidtchen Theatre at Lower Cape May Regional High School on March 21st and 22nd at 7:00 p.m. with a matinee

performance at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday the 23rd.

Tickets are $ 10.00 for adults and $5.00 for chil-dren 12 and under. Audi-ence members who attend in costume will receive $1.00 off the ticket price and there will be a surprise gift for all children attend-ing under the age of 12 years. A Peter Pan set of Disney figurines will be raffled off at the Sunday performance.

Enjoy the flight of “Peter Pan.” It is a performance worth “crowing about.”

Lower Cape May Little League will be holding their annual Food & Drink Night at the Cape May VFW on March 22nd from 7pm to 10pm. Erik Simonsen and 12:01 will be providing the entertainment. The menu includes roast beef, chicken marsala, penne in vodka sauce and salad. There will be a raffle and auction prizes throughout the night. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and are available at Cappelletti’s Pizza and the Cape May VFW. Email [email protected] or call 609-602-8100 for tickets or questions.

LCM Little League Hosts Food & Drink Night

Jersey Shore Pops Appoints AmbassadorCOURT HOUSE - Linda

Gentille & The Jersey Shore Pops have announced that the board of directors for the orchestra approved the appointment of local Middle Township resident Karen Buckingham as the official Jersey Shore Pops Ambassador. Her duties will include greeting all pa-trons for all concerts that the popular orchestra holds and promoting the orches-tra within the community.

Buckingham has been a volunteer with the popular orchestra for over a year hosting numerous after concert events, but the offi-cials from the pops wanted to make her position more official. Dr. Nick Holland, president of the Jersey Shore Pops comments, “We are very excited to have such a creative person such as Karen to be our Ambas-sador. She has so much experience in the arts and entertainment arena and brings a fresh enthusiasm to our organization. The board of the our orchestra was so pleased to be able to invite her to participate in a more official capacity.”

Buckingham was born at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. where her father was transferred to from Paris Island, South Carolina where he served as a drill sergeant in the Ma-rine Corps. She was raised in Voorhees, New Jersey and at the age of 14, moved to the Jersey Shore.

While attending Wild-wood High School, she met the love of her life, Russ Buckingham. After attend-ing Stockton State College, Buckingham married Russ and together they have two children, Jacklyn, 27, and Trevor, 25.

Trevor manages the Country Club Tavern in Swainton while Jacklyn is a Language Arts teacher with the Bridgeton School District. Jacklyn is also the featured singer for the Jer-sey Shore Pops as well as a member of the Shaken Not Stirred Players.

Aside from being Am-bassador for the Jersey Shore Pops, Buckingham is a board member of the Theater Collaborative of South Jersey whose mission is to renovate and restore

the Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point. She is also the president of the Middle Township Council for the Arts.

During Hurricane Irene in 2011, Buckingham cre-ated a Facebook page to help Cape May County stay connected. She was a com-fort to those who stayed in Cape May County, and her page was used by emer-gency personnel as a way of communication.

Last year, when Bucking-ham’s mother-in-law (Mir-iam Buckingham) passed away, she started a teddy bear drive in her name. The ‘Teddy Bear Roundup’ was created because of Miriam’s love of teddy bears. Teddy bears were collected and distributed to area nursing homes during the holiday season. Last year over 300 teddy bears were placed in loving arms.

Buckingham also spends her time substitute teach-ing in the Middle Town-ship School District. When not raising money for local charities and organizations, Buckingham loves to go on cruises with her family and

friends. Buckingham and her husband honeymooned in Walt Disney World and have continued the tradi-tion by taking their children there every year.

Her home resembles a Disney museum.

Buckingham’s love for the arts developed over the years while watch-ing her daughter Jacklyn perform at various area events throughout Cape May County. She loves to entertain at her Cape May Court House home, but is happiest spending her spare time doing for others. In her words, her biggest achievement is being the proud mother of Jacklyn and Trevor.

Buckingham will be greeting audiences as the official ambassador at each of the popular orchestra’s concerts at both The Ocean City Music Pier and The Middle Township Perform-ing Arts Center. The Jersey Shore Pops will open the Memorial Day Weekend in Ocean City May 24.

Below is the entire or-chestra schedule for the 2014 Spring/Summer Sea-son:

July 12 at 7:00 p.m.: Mark Preston of the Letterman

July 19 at 7:00 p.m.: Sina-tra Sizzles

Aug. 9, at 7:00 p.m.: Broadway on Tap:

Aug. 23 at 7:00 p.m.: Great Balls Of Fire, Legends of Piano

This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Depart-ment of State, a Partner Agency of the National En-dowment for the Arts. The funds were administered by the Cape May County Cul-ture and Heritage Commis-sion, under the authority of the County Library Commis-sion, for the Board of Cho-sen Freeholders.

The price of the season pass is discounted at $100 for all 4 Saturday evening shows in the series and is on sale only until May 24, 2014. This price will also include a ticket to the open-ing night “After Concert Champagne Reception” at the Avalon Golf Club as well as other after concert re-ceptions at both The Avalon Golf Club and The Bellevue Tavern. Season ticket hold-ers will save $60 for the pass compared to regular orchestra center VIP seating which is $40 a ticket. To pur-chase tickets to the 2014 Jersey Shore Pops Summer Season, please call the JSP Ticket Office at 800-838-3006 or 609-628-4544. You can choose your own seats online by going to www.Jer-seyShorePops.org.

Tickets are now going to be available once again at the PAC for walk up pur-chases for individual ticket sales which will not begin until June 2, 2014. fire has shaped and re-shaped the City of Cape May in the Carriage House Gallery exhibit, “Cape May Ablaze,” presented by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), which opens April 25. The exhibit is sponsored by Stur-dy Savings Bank.

From the very beginning, fire has reshaped Cape May more so than any other force, natural or man-made. Even today, fire continues to be the bane of Cape May, a National Historic Landmark city, filled with hundreds of

restored Victorian buildings. Ben Miller, the exhibit’s

curator and author of Exit Zero’s popular book, The First Resort, takes visitors on a journey through Cape May’s fiery past in this must-see exhibit that includes an authentic 1925 Model T fire truck.

Members of the pub-lic are invited to the free exhibit opening on Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Carriage House Gallery, on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Wash-ington St. The exhibit is free and open daily, April 25 through Oct. 14.

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) is a multifaceted not-for-profit organization committed to promoting the preservation, interpre-tation, and cultural enrich-

ment of the Cape May re-gion for its residents and visitors. MAC membership is open to all. For information about MAC’s year-round schedule of tours, festi-vals, and special events call
