Malmsten - Just add water... The swimming pool is a place for exercise, well- ness and organized activities. Our goal at Malmsten is to assist our clients in the creation of beautiful, efficient and cost-effective aquatic centres. We strive to be the market leader in the swim-ming pool industry, with the highest standards of excellence and distinguished quality require-ments. Realizing that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, we put high priority on emphasizing the highest quality and reliability of all compo-nents in our products and installations.

During the last few years Malmsten has acquired companies to strengthen its position as a supplier of complete turnkey pool projects. In 1996 we started our cooperation with Aqua Level AB and sold our first movable floor. The Aqua Level movable floor was invented and designed by Anders Stigsson. Since then our partnership has grown and today Aqua Level AB manufactures, delivers and installs movable pool floors that Malmsten AB markets and sell, together with its complete product line to swim-ming halls on all continents.

Movable FloorAqua Level Movable floor makes it possible to use a swimming pool for a great variety of activities and it can be installed in both new and existing pools.

The floor is designed to be easy to use and maintain, with no attachments in the pool floor, which simplifies cleaning. Water flows smoothly and evenly through floor and there are no recesses where dirt can collect. This means that water quality will not be affected.

Our movable floor is continuously adjustable to obtain any desired position. It is also possible to obtain a fixed and/or variable slope.

If the movable floor will be used in only one part of the pool, it can be equipped with a sliding flap or a movable bridge to prevent anyone from swimming in underneath it.

The movable floor is made of beams in stainless acid-proof steel. The floor covering is built up by slip proof (Class C, 24˚) boards of PVC vinyl ester 117 mm wide and 22 mm thick. They are placed with 8 mm gap to give an efficient through flow. The standard colour of the boards is white.

Our movable floor has undergone an extensive safety analysis based on European safety directives. It is CE-certified.

With a movable floor you can create a pool with endless possibilities. Pool visitors will delight in different water activities, leading to increased visitor frequency and higher revenues.

An interesting new application for the movable floor can be found at the Dolphin´s pool at the Kolmården Zoo in Sweden.

Pools with flexibilityBaby SwimBaby Swim is a popular activity at many pools today. This requires a properly adjusted water depth to adapt to the size of the babies and the parents ! Due to the amount of lifting included in the exercise programs, it is important for the adults to stand correctly to minimize the strain on their backs. Suitable water depth is 1.2 -1.4 meters.

Splash & PlaySplash and Play is an activity for children aged 3-6 years old who are not able to swim yet. The optimal water depth is 0.4 -0.5 m, so that the children feel safe and secure enough to dare to do the exerci-ses and games to achieve confidence in the water.

Learning to SwimLearning to Swim requires a water depth of between 0.6 and 0.9 m. It is a great advantage to be able to adapt thedepth to the size of the children in order to obtain the best possible learning environment.

RehabilitationRehabilitation requires various water depths depending on the type of disability, age group and training activity.

Water WorkoutWater Workout is an activity that is growing quickly in popularity, where the water must be shoulder-deep so that the participants can perform the exercises correctly and stay warm throughout the entire training session.

Deep Water AerobicsDeep Water Aerobics requires greater water depths because the programs are based on exercising in the water while not touching the bottom of the pool

Competition PoolThe water depth requirements according to the FINA (the international swimming federation) handbook vary depending on the aquatic sport and on the level of the competition.

For a swimming pool used for swimming it is recommended a depth of 1 metre. However, if starting blocks are in place the depth should be at least 1,35 for a certain distance from the blocks. If your pool is to host a major championship, like an Olym-pic Game, a minimum of 2 metres depth is required and 3 metres is recommended. Other water depth requirements are recommended for water polo, synchroni-zed swimming and for diving.

AccessibilityWe offer different solutions to assist in entering and getting out of the pool.

StaircaseOur articulated staircase is to be fitted in the overflow gutter or on the pool deck.This staircase adjusts up and down with the movable floor. It is available with six or eight steps. This is a suitable solution for a pool that is used for competition since it may be easily removed.

Stairs in nicheAs a safety measure we recommend that the arti-culated staircase is placed in a sealed niche of the pool. The sealed niche prevents anyone from swimming in under the staircase.

Integrated stepsOur Integrated steps are made of the same material as our Movable Floor and it is placed in a ”sealed” niche outside the pool. The placement in the niche does not take any pool space and it is safe since it prevents anyone to swim in under it. It is an elegant solution. When the Movable Floor is raised the staircase is also raised and will appear to be part of the pool floor, as a ramp. As the Movable Floor is being lowered, each step of the staircase is being released gradually. Then as the Movable Floor is being raised, each step of the staircase is being ”picked up” step by step. The Intregrated steps may be a staircase, a larger section or along an entire side of the pool. It may be placed on the short or the long side of the pool.

Protective wall for stairsIt is strongly recommended that the articulated staircase is equipped with our protective wall to pre-vent anyone from being able to swim in under the stairs. This protective wall is designed to follow the movements of the movable floor. The protective wall is made from stainless steel and plexiglass.

Movable PlatformAqua Level Movable Platform for persons with physical disabilities. It can be installed either in a niche or in a corner of the pool, where it can be lowered down to the desired depth, for safety reasons, max 90 cm. A telescopic wall provides a safety feature under the lifting platform. With a remote control, persons in wheelchairs can manoeuvre the Movable Platform on their own to lower themselves into the water.

We can also offer a specially designed Movable Platform for trolleys which is mainly intended for Therapy pools. The width of the Platform is 2,35 meter.

Articulated HandrailsAn important accesory is the articulated hand rail.

Many of the activities in a pool will bene-fit from having this to hold on to during exercises.The Hand rail is designed to be folded down into the overflow gutter when the rail is not in use.

Portsmouth

Sliding FlapFloor in part of poolIf you want to install a movable floor in just one section of the pool you need to ensure that no one may reach under or swim in under the movable floor. Our sliding flap will prevent this from happening.

A Sliding flap is attached to the movable floor on one side and lay flat towards the bottom of the pool on the other side. It moves up and down with the movable floor to ensure a tight fit.

The Sliding flap creates a perfect and closed transi-tion between the movable floor and the bottom of the pool, at any floor depth.

Submersible BridgeA submersible Bridge can be a perfect solution for those who want to share the pool between different activities.

A larger pool may have a Bridge installed in order to divide the pool into different activity areas.On each side of the Bridge you may have a mova-ble floor so that the pool depth may vary and acti-vities in the different pool areas can be different as well. You may have fitness swimming in one part and baby swim in another. The possibilities are many.

The Bridge may be fitted with wall anchors for racing lanes and also with turn boards for lap swimming. A normal width of a bridge is 1,5 m

Dividing WallThis is also a bridge, but only intended to be used for dividing a pool into two sections. It is not intended to walk on in contrast to a Bridge. A Dividing Wall is nor-mally 0,5-1 m wide.

Together with our newest partner, we can offer a partition that may be lowered from the ceiling and “sealed” on to the Dividing wall. With this partition-solution a larger pool may be divided into two smal-ler pools for a period and then put back into a large pool again

Movable BulkheadWe can now also offer a Bulkhead on tracks moving horizontally along the long sides of the pool.

This is an interesting solution if you would like to use a 50 meter pool also as two 25 meter pools. You then build the pool 51,5 m and install a 1,5 m wide Bulk-head in one end. To divide the pool the Bulkhead is moved to the middle of the pool. You now have two 25 m pools!

A partition (a drape) can be installed in the ceiling, and lowered down, when needed. It is attached in the ceiling and rests on the dividing wall when in use. This partition lowers the noise level from the two simultaneously run activities and makes each session more private. Just as different activities can be run in this multi purpose pool, the movable floors and the dividing wall may be lowered to the same level to have the ”usual” 25-m pool ”return” for swim training or other acitivities when needed.

Multi Purpose PoolThere are many possibilities of how to create a multi purpose pool and the drawing below shows an example of how a swimming pool can be optimized. The drawing consists of two movable floors with a dividing wall in between them. There is an arti-culating staircase and a Movable Platform in a niche. This pool, in Sundsvall, will have the possibility of running two different activity sessions, requiring different pool depths, simultaneously. This could be baby swim in one part of the pool and water aerobics in the other.

Easy to clean and maintainOur movable floor has no attachments to the pool bottom. It is therefore very easy to keep the pool bottom clean.Each floor has at least one service hatch that you can open and drop down a normal pool cleaner, which will do the cleaning job for you.

Since the drive shaft and the gears are placed in the gutter, all service is done from the top (pool edge). The motors are normally placed in the basement, and are checked from there. No need to empty the pool for service!

EconomicalWhen the floor is in top position it will also act as a pool cover and minimizing evaporation and heat loss.

Not only for humansIn the dolphins´ pool at the KolmårdenZoo the movable floor was fitted into the holding pool. The task was to ease the repetitious vete-rinarian examinations and also give visitors a chance to go into the water with the dolphins.

Installation ProcessWe normally do the installation in two steps.

The first step starts when the concrete work building the pool is finished.

The Gutters and Guide rails are mounted and adjusted for best water overflow.

The mechanical sections are put in place. Now our first installation is completed.

Our installation team will return again when the tilingis completed.

The second step starts with the installation of the pri-mary beams being connected to the guide rails.

The secondary, lightweight beams are installed.

The floor boards are attached to the beams.Checking is done that no gap is larger than8 mm. When all electrical equipment is installed our installation is completed, and the floor is ready to be started up.

The installers ensures that measurements and requi-rements follows EN 13451-11.
