From the perspective of the passerby, what motivation would be necessary to capture their attention? What would it take to get them to act divergently from their previous intention in order to come and explore a space? What kind of intrigue would be necessary to motivate this whimsical decisiveness?
Light is a visible representation of knowledge and enlightenment. Technically it is much more than that. Its power and effects are far reaching. The great discriminators of light in the universe are nodal orbital centers around which whole organizations of mass revolve. The speed at which it moves is unprecedented and unfathomable by the mortal mind. To capture its power and capitalize on it is essential in an effort to create compellingly alluring spaces. It seems natural to attempt to take advantage of as much of this gem as is possible. Therefore with careful consideration of sun patterns and a desire to make use of these habitual motions, in an indirect application as if on canvas, is nothing but pragmatic. Thus it becomes an opportunity to to create a geometry that lends itself to this charge. In some structures natural light is “piped” in because of its positive effects. Does in not seem feasible to create multi-level spaces that utilize the same natural lighting sources? Therefore you will find in the space multiple spaces with a spectrum from singularly private conditions to the most public of settings on multiple levels and distances from the facade, which all use the same natural light sources.
A work informed by its surroundings continues a conversation already in motion as apposed to introduction of new topics in the spacial and aesthetic conversation of a locale. As a result let us be cordial participants in the conversation and be quick to observe. Who visits this area? What kind of car traffic is circulating? Are there natural conditions that should be a part of the considerations for the form that is produced. Yes. All of these things are viable considerations that if left out would be cause for accusations of neglect.
These factors observed throughout the day are applied in a north to south correspondence to sectional form that is then processed through a fractal pattern that is representative of time. After these sequential developments, as a final driver of form, there is a return to the origins of this discussion, light.

Three-dimensionally tileable geometry inspired by Brussels Sprouts

Sprout LuffaTyler McMartin+Ralph
Spencer Steenblik
The expedition harvested luffa sprout on its way into deep space. It was a good thing that humans had seeded the asteroid belt years earlier as a way to replenish foodstuffs on long exploratory missions. The sprout when transplanted into orbit acts much like a tumble weed does in the deserts. It disseminates about the asteroid field and aggregates in areas of favorable growing conditions. Since its location in outer space, the sprout has been found on distant other worlds, thriving. In its new habitat, released from the restrictions of gravity, the Luffa sprout grows with no limit, exhibiting self symmetry at all scales, reproducing exponentially. It is listed on the cosmic index of invasive life-forms.
The Luffa Sprout is a hybrid between the Luffa Squash and Brussels Sprouts. It was an innovation of the early twenty-first Century in rural southern California. The delicate Luffa Sprout is protected by the Luffa Cage. It was developed as a resiliant, nutrient rich, and highly regenerative superfood.
