At the same time, city streets are a finite and scarce resource. A working group of international NGOs, under the leadership and co-ordination of Robin Chase developed 10 principles designed to guide urban decision-makers and stakeholders toward the best outcomes for all. Close to 50 Governments and their advisors and close to 50 enterprises have signed up to these principles. Robin Chase will share these principles and the thinking behind it with rest of the experts and this roundtable will discuss the next level of details and legislation required for Cities to effectively manage their transition to the future of mobility. Sessions will have roundtable discussions. A background presentation will be made for each session. Lead discussants will provide remarks before opening up to all participants of the roundtable and finally to the audience. 4:00 PM - 5:45 PM Future Streets – Slow, Safe, Forgiving City roads today are part of the legacy of the car oriented transport systems. The largest users of city roads in India are pedestrians, followed by two-wheeler rides but lane widths, turning radiuses, speeds are all designed in car equivalents. This has led to roads being unsafe for majority of the users. This discussion will focus on how Indian cities can transform its roads for cars to lively urban streets for people.
