2. INSTALLATION OF THE MP VERSION 9
2 Installation of the MP version 9
The program files are delivered in an executable format that will unzip during the installation
process. Therefore, in order for the programs to be run on the computer, you must first run the
setup program.
This chapter covers the following procedures:
• Single-User Installation: This is used when the Single-User version of the program has been
purchased and shall be installed on a single PC where no programs or databases will be
shared with other users.
• Installation on a server: This is used when the network version of the program has been
purchased and shall be installed on a server where programs and databases will be shared
with other users.
• Installation on a workstation: This is used when the network version of the program has
been purchased and it has been previously installed on a server. This installation sets up
each workstation to be able to run each program and share the databases located on the
server with other users.

3. LICENSE ACTIVATION
3 License activation
To use MP v.9 programs installed on your equipment(s) it is necessary to validate and activate
your user license. Follow these steps to do so:
1. Make sure that the equipment has access to Internet and to MPsoftware’s site
(www.mpsoftware.mx)
NOTE! The equipment must have access to MPsoftware’s site (www.mpsoftware.mx) at the
moment of activating the license and later, at least once every 30 days so that synchronization
of your license with MPsoftware’s cloud can be carry out.
2. Run any of the MP programs installed on your computer.
3. In the License Activation window, enter the activation data (Serial number, Check digit and
Product Key), as well as the "CAPTCHA" and then click Next.

register. Click Enter to finish activating your license.
NOTE! Your license is active only once for each user who will use MP programs. If you require
more users or technical support, please contact us at [email protected].
4. MP UPDATE SERVICE
4 MP Update Service
The MP Update Service is a standalone program that connects to Internet and automatically
downloads the latest versions of the programs for all the languages available.
With the computer turned on and this service enabled, all the available updates are seamlessly
downloaded from the Internet into a shared folder on the local network. Then, all the workstations
with any MP application installed will search the downloaded updates on the same folder and
those will be installed on each one of the Workstations without the need of being collectively and
individually logged on to the Internet.
This process dramatically streamlines the program update, since the Internet download is
performed just once for all the workstations.
There are multiple approaches on how to install this service.
A. Equipment with single-user MP and Internet connection. The MP update service is installed
directly to the same computer where the MP is installed (see Single-user installation). The
MP takes the downloaded updates directly from this same computer)
B. Equipment with single-user MP and no Internet connection. The MP update service is
installed in any other computer or server that has internet connection and plugged to the
same local network. The MP takes the downloaded updates from the other computer or
server connected to the local network.
4 – MP Update Service 15
C. Server with network MP and Internet connection. The MP updates service is installed
directly in the same server where the MP network version is installed (see Server
Installation). The MP’s installed in the workstations take the downloaded updates directly
from the server.
D. Server with network MP and no Internet connection. The MP update service is installed in
any other computer or server that has internet connection and plugged to the same local
network. The installed MP’s in the workstations take the downloaded updates from the
other computer or server connected to the same local network.
INSTALLATION
The MP Update Service is installed automatically when you install the MP, Spare Parts Inventory
and/or Tools Control programs for the first time. This happens when the single-user version is
installed or when the network version on a server is installed (see diagrams A and C).
NOTE! The computer where you install the service can be the same computer where you have
installed the MP single-user version, server or any other computer connected to the network.
16 4 – MP Update Service
The steps to be followed for the installation are virtually the same in all instances:
First. The service installation shall be performed on a computer with Internet connection. (Refer
to Installing the Service).
Second. Set up the Support Center on each Workstation where any MP application is installed
(refer to Setting Up the Support Center later in this chapter) (p.18).
Installing the service
NOTE! The MP Update Service is installed automatically when you install the MP, Spare Parts
Inventory and/or Tools Control programs for the first time. If you would like to install the MP Update
Service in some other computer, you should first uninstall the MP Update Service from the
computer or server where you previously installed the MP. Refer to Modifying, repairing, or
removing a program installation in Chapter 2 of this manual (p. 9).
To install the MP Update Service, follow these steps:
1. Download and run the MP version 9 installation package.
NOTE! The link for downloading the installation package of the MP version 9 was sent to you
previously for e-mail, if you do not have this e-mail at this moment, you can download the
installation file from our downloads webpage selecting the edition of the program related to your
purchase. http://support.mpsoftwarecmms.com/mp_descargas.html
4 – MP Update Service 17
2. Click the MP Install button, select Server option and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. In the screen where you can choose from to make a complete installation of all programs or
perform a custom installation, select the Custom option.
4. Uncheck all the options and select only the option Update Service. Continue the
installation.
5. Once the MP Update Service is installed, an icon will be added to the taskbar of Windows.
Open the service double clicking the MP Update Service icon. The following screen will be
displayed.
18 4 – MP Update Service
6. Write down the location of the update folder displayed at the bottom of the window. This
folder is where the updates will be downloaded to from the Internet (e.g.
C:\MPsoftSv\Updates). This folder will be later located from each one of the Workstations
when setting up the Support Center. If you would like to choose another folder, you may do
so under the Settings Options.
NOTE! The folder where the updates shall be downloaded to from the Internet should be shared
by all MP users.
Simply installing the MP Update Service does not mean that the applications will be automatically
updated on the clients or Workstations. You must set up the Support Center, as described below,
in order for the Workstations to take the latest downloads and install them on all clients.
Setting up the Support Center
The Support Center is in charge of updating, from the download folder, the applications installed
on each one of the clients or Workstations. This is also applicable to the MP single-user versions.
In order for the Support Center to know where the updates downloaded from the Internet are
located, you need to proceed as follows:
NOTE! The following process shall be performed on all workstations where any MP applications
are installed.
1. From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware menu, execute the Support Center.
2. Go to the Updates module and select the Settings option.
3. Search and choose the same folder where the updates will be downloaded to from the
Internet through the MP Update Service (refer to Installing the Service before in this same
chapter) (p. 16).
5. MAINTENANCE REQUESTS VIA INTRANET/INTERNET
5 Maintenance Requests via
Intranet/Internet (Enterprise edition
only)
The Maintenance Requests module enables users to report failures from any location via the
Intranet or Internet, by using an Internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) so that all these requests
may be later managed by the maintenance staff using the Request Manager module.
The database where the requests reported by the users are stored (Requests.mdb) is completely
independent from the databases managed by the MP (*.m91), which means that this module can
be installed either on the same computer where the MP was installed (network or single-user) or
on any other computer within the same network, or even on an Internet server.
There are 2 ways of installing this service:
• Locally on the company network (Intranet). The service is locally installed on any computer
in the network. The Intranet is a computer network within a private, corporate, or
educational Local Area Network (LAN) providing Internet tools.
• On the company Internet server. If the company has an Internet domain name (e.g.
www.mycompany.com), this service can be installed by using the Microsoft IIS (Internet
Information Services) on the company Internet server. This installation process shall be
monitored by the Systems staff or by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Once a maintenance request has been reported, it shall be managed by another MP module
called Request Manager. In this module, the administrator keeps track of all the requests reported
by the users and can even forward them to the MP program from which a work order can be
generated.
20 5 – Maintenance Requests via Intranet/Internet (Enterprise edition only)
LOCAL INSTALLATION (INTRANET)
